Time for a new thread, as #23 went by pretty fast (for /cgl/ standards at least)

Keep it /cgl/-related! Cosplay or J-fashion like Lolita/Brolita, Aristocrat, Kimono, Nanchatte, etc.!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

ITT you may post:
- Useful guides that can be applied to crossplaying/crossdressing
- Questions, help, sharing advice to improve your appearance to pass temporary as the opposite gender (Male -> Female, Female -> Male)
- pictures of crossplay/crossdressing coords, selfposts
- personal experience/stories regarding crossplay/crossdressing

NOT allowed:
- Anything in sexual context/fetish stuff
- Anything related to gender transition like hormones, operation etc.; >>>/lgbt/ might be the better place for this
- Casual crossdressing without any /cgl/-context

Reposting in the new thread. I've had the thought of crossplaying for a while, but it has to be the right character. I bought one of the Miccostumes Catwoman costumes, it actually fits me quite well and I find it comfortable but don't think I'd be brave enough to wear it in public. For something I'd actually wear to a con I've been considering Ozen from Made in Abyss, with some not too ridiculous platforms I'd actually be her character height of 2m.

Anyone know any crossplayers that are not weird to follow on social media? I'm trying to find like minded people that treat it as a hobby and not a fetish lifestyle

>> No.10887573

I myself like Nanchatte seifuku, classic lolita and Otome-kei (and like not ott kawaii clothes in general). However as of now I have only worn Nanchatte as its both my favorite and also the easiest to do due to not being elaborate/ott. Despite this Im actually not into cosplay, despite that the latter gets confused with cosplay a lot.

Personally I do not like nor want to try to pass as female. I think it looks better that way and makes it easier on my end (maybe it looks like its not a fetish to people) since wearing Nanchatte is very easy for people to think you are doing it for some creepy schoolgirl fetish shit and almost all pictures of men wearing schoolgirl fetish shit, wear wigs or have long hair and try to actually look like a little girl.

As far as actually wearing the clothes, the times I have worn it in public, I did not seem to get any negative response. But I cannot say too much on this as I have not actually worn it out very much for various reasons.

If anyone does want to see how I style/coordinate each coord (and how I try to negate it looking like schoolgirl fetish rubbish) I will go into detail of that if you ask.

And I do have a question about being a Brolita... Do you need to actually try to look female to wear lolita, or can you just do like what I currently do and not at all try to look like a female?

I have seen Ozen cosplays, but they're usually shorter girls and trying to be sexy. Ozen is absolutely not supposed to be a "sexy" character, she's supposed to be a tall, imposing presence. I've looked around online and I can purchase a wig and as I've cosplayed a drow fighter before I'm not too concerned about the makeup. Her makeup isn't very extreme, just gotta pale the skin with certain highlights and detail to make it look realistic pale. I'd just need to get a pair of platform boots with a heel to make boot covers for and I'd get her 6'7" (2m) character height. I figure heeled boots would also help my walking look more graceful/feminine/ whatever the correct descriptor would be.

That'd definitely get me the height needed for Ozen but the style isn't right. It wouldn't look right with all the buckles and to put covers on them the buckles would get in the way. I have seen boots on Onlymaker that'd work and be easier to cover, I know they're Chinese so quality could be questionable but we're talking a cosplay that I'd wear only a couple of days a year.

Men like you hurt the EGL community. the whole fucking point of lolita fashion is to be a feminine fashion yet complete newfags like you think looking like a total man or non binary zoomer is acceptable in lolita. If you don’t wanna put in the effort to look like a woman your coords are probably shit also.

Aside from crossplay being something I just enjoy more than the normal kind, it's also a pragmatic choice. I tend to overheat pretty easily and piling on layers of clothing along with a wig is gonna make that even worse. So it gets pretty annoying when there's someone I'd like to dress as (ex. Gabriel or Kurisu), but I just don't bother since the window of time where I could wear these outfits is so tiny. For reference, I've felt like I'm overheating in costume, even when it's snowing outside

Yes sure I do destroy it. I never once did say I actually wore Lolita, I do not even have any clothes of it, quite simply I am asking a question. I was asking if it was doable or not, to make such a claim, that I hurt the community somehow by asking a simple question, is absolutely insane. If you actually need to look like a female to wear it, then no I will not wear it. I do not like butchering styles, that just looks like shit.

I will imply your interest is genuine and try to give you a reasonable answer to you question.

The short answer is, the more feminine the better (given you actually go for lolita and not adjacent styles like male EGA etc.), and the more obvious your typically male features are the harder you will have it within the community. Bonus points for decent social skills.

Long answer is due to a long history of creeps doing creepy things, large parts of the lolita community have at least become wary of males wearing lolita, with some being outright against it, although only very few will be openly vocal about it on social events or platforms due to the progressive tendency of most comms. People will leave you be for the most part if you put in the effort and objectively(!) look good in what you wear, means your coord looks decent and you groom yourself. If you manage to show some social skills and hold yourself back as well, then you are fine to go and people will leave you be. Unfortunately though, if you do not manage to get the first part right, people tend to err for the side of caution and keep their distance from you. The acceptance threshold and general standard at which you will be "measured" however varies greatly from comm to comm. And yeah, based on that it should be clear that some guys have it harder than others when it comes to reaching this goal. I would say the lolita community has very clear ideas about what it wants the fashion to be where other scenes and styles might be much more lenient and open to "unorthodox" takes.

Or to put things into perspective, if you want to sport the man in a dress look, some will maybe support you from a be whoever you want point of view, but the majority will judge you for this and at worst even slander you for it from the back, even if you don't necessarily directly interact with the community, see >>10887583.

Thank you for actually being polite. Yes I know of the amount of deviants that like to drag Lolita through the mud, god forbid you browse it online for long enough and you just get disgusting fetish rubbish come up. Now as to the actual effort of the coord, yes this makes a large difference as to the perception of it. Ive seen those awful images of people wearing terrible lolita "coords" that clearly arent anything but cheap garbage as well.

Now, I am inclined to think that, the actual look of the coord can perhaps compensate for obviously not passing for a female. Maybe I am biased due to never seeing it on myself or like other people, but I think if you have a very good coord (like actual Lolita stuff not fetish shit or very cheap clothes) and you at least try to work with looking male and try to style it as best as possible, and you dont act like a creep, perhaps it is doable, albeit I think the amount of effort would compensate for not trying to pass as female. Which if its not done right, looks worse than man in a dress. Also as a note, I do feel passing as a female can be worse than man in a dress, perhaps not within the context of lolita but rather if you want to wear the clothing on a regular basis, to do so feels like Im pulling a SMS Cap Trafalgar where I am pretending to be something I am not, and if caught will have worse consequences than just being upfront about it. Yes maybe not the greatest analogy but I think its fitting.

And yes, I know the community its behavior, but thank you for mentioning anyway lol.

I've always been of the mindset that if you take care and put the effort into a good cosplay people will be fine with it and you'll get great response. You've obviously put effort into Scarlet Witch and it paid off very well. For years at Otakon there was a guy who made and walked around in fabulous ballroom gowns, I don't think anyone ever said anything negative about him. This has played into me wanting to put together a good Ozen cosplay. I show up as a good Ozen who actually towers over the other cosplayers as she should, it actually helps this particular cosplay be better IMO.

Effort matters in the sense of getting great skin, great body and other junk.

Effort as in spending 593838 hours and usd on your cosplay or coords do not matter after a certain point.

A genetically masculine or brutish looking guy in the best crossplay attire and makeup ever will still be worse off than a naturally pretty and androgynous looking guy with a thin and slender physique who bought a 140usd ali express cosplay and had his wine aunt do his makeup.

The man wears the clothes, not the other way around.

I agree. Hell with it even fatter people can pull it off as long as they don't fight their body type and do impossible looks that only look good on thinner people. Same goes with anything else body wise, you need to work with it not against it.

While I do not have an interest in cosplay I do like alternative fashion so yes, you do it because you like the clothes not due to you modeling it or whatever so, it doesn't lead anywhere to obsess over that like I've seen some people do.

I've only been a casual in the community for some time, having just ordered my first mask recently but I'd agree with your sentiment of lewd kigs getting the most attention. Unfortunately it also seems to be the center of a lot of drama, a number of western non-lewd kigs whine that kigs who are brand new to the scene get way more attention and build fanbases larger than oldfag kigs quickly via horny posts. They argue that it also hurts the hobby because it makes it so when you look for stuff related to kigging you'll often just find porn and fetish stuff.

I kinda see their point but at the same time you're not gonna get 'normal' dudes both wanting to see and dress up in skintight zentai (Hadatai is their real name, for the uninitiated) and masks to become anime waifus, especially when as you mentioned it requires such a sizable investment in both time and money. It's also just human nature, someone wearing a mask and hiding behind internet anonymity is naturally gonna feel more free to do things they might not otherwise. Soooo you can't have your cake and eat it too imo.

To me it's a simple matter of not being a retard in public- wear normal character relevant cosplay for your kig when you wanna go out and keep the super lewd shit in the bedroom and if you want, on twitter. If the kig is just doing that then why not? No different than a normal horny cosplayer in a way then. As far as I can tell that's what most of them seem to do anyway.

Technique and lack of understanding usually - some people get the idea right away whereas others just apply makeup without applying any logic at all. Makeup becomes real straight-forward with practice though for certain areas like eyeliner, you need to be precise otherwise you will sometimes layer more than you need.

If anything, you should also find videos where MUAs also point out mistakes people make, and see if all of that makes sense to you. Once you are good with makeup, you should feel confident with doing a bunch of crossplay styles if you end up doing it more than once and maybe even impress people if you intend to put the work in

Thinking about crossplaying a 2hu character and will probably buy a costume and get makeup done to see if i like it. To those of you who’ve bought costumes, did you go for male sizes or female sizes as a male? The biggest issue with a lot of crossdressing/crossplay discords is that they are invariably filled by trannies over time, either because a lot of the members realized they were trannies all along (really, the fear of twinkdeath caught up with them) or just because they want to insert themselves into the community.

I've wanted to make one myself for a while that keeps the trannies out (/lgbt/'s /femgen/ does a similar thing), but I have no idea how to go about spreading it around.

It needs to be understood this is always going to happen, there is no avoiding it. Some people will go full-blown trans, some will just disappear over time as they fall out of love with it...you have to take the good with the bad. I generally just get on with it and do my own thing, it doesn't have to be too connected much of the time and not many people will share your pattern of thinking. Besides, some people may feel anxious about joining groups as they will constantly be judged no matter what

Use pantyhose that are skincolored for a more uniform skintone for your legs. For actual facial structure, unless you're open to full on plastic surgery and you're unsatisfied with makeup (learn your techniques), you should just accept who you are. Crossplaying is about mimicking a woman, but it's not about being perfect. As long as you're having fun.

Correct. The contrast and the pantyhose will make your legs look sleek and elegant. I think you actually have a pretty good facial structure based on the picture. More practice with makeup will make a difference- eyeliner, lipstick & contour.

Part of crossplay is showing off your more feminine features and hiding the more masculine ones. Pick a character who wears tights and long gloves to smooth out your arms & legs. Bangs are a good choice for you. An outfit that's tighter at the waist with a poofier skirt (petticoat as >>10892452 and >>10892496 recommend) or hip pads will also give you a more feminine shape.

Your pose in this picture is working against you. You're hunched over with knees bent and your hand out like a claw- this exaggerates all your muscles & tendons.

There are people at the events I go to who can do it well enough at age 50. Additionally skincare and cosmetics are improving. (If you are reading this and not using tretinoin, stop and order some to use now). It's feasible that reverse-aging will happen within our lifetime.

That's really reassuring, thanks. Been taking better care of my skin and health in general these days, just scared of twink death that people joke about. I figure makeup and cosmetics can do a lot heavy lifting as I get more proficient with it though.
I'm around 5'7" so I think it's a decent height to crossdress/crossplay as my favorite characters, so I've been reading through the sticky a ton which has a been really helpful. Thanks again anon, I'll look into tretinoin too.

>> No.10892664

Twink Death is partially a meme, and partially caused by people (who aren't even trying to be twinks 99% of the time) not taking care of their body. Letting fear of it limit what you do is so much worse than it. And honestly, at 5'7' and not even 27 yet if you have decent genetics and you're not fat, you've got nothing to fear.

If you need a whitepill, look up pictures of 20 and 30 year olds in the 1950s and 60s. People aged like lightning in those times due to things like smoking, different healthcare and skincare practices (usually nonexistent), fucking tanning, and more. If you're not terribly unlucky with your genetics and keep yourself in good health, you could probably look like you're in your 20s by age 40 just with what we have today. That's 15 years to do what you love MINIMUM, not even taking into account what technology we'll have by that time period. And even if you do end up looking older, who cares? You can still crossplay and crossplay well, and have fun. Only difference is you may decide to use selfie filters.

tldr: Avoid sunlight, use tretinoin, stay healthy. Fear of twinkdeath is infinitely worse than twinkdeath.

Good luck Anon, I started crossplaying at literally the same time you did and while I regret not starting it sooner, I would regret it even more if I let that fear keep me from doing it.

Pure C (ascorbic acid) or a C derivative, and what concentration? Pure C goes less well with tret than derivatives in my experience. Sensitization doesn't always happen right away with tret but once it gets going, it is hard to calm down. I do cleanser - watery toner - peptide serum - cosrx snail power essence - .05 tret (nightly) - laneige sleeping mask and I save my ascorbic acid for the morning, when it has the added benefit of boosting sunscreen.

Do I need a toner before applying tret? I've read others saying it's necessary to have something down beforehand.

>> No.10892801

>>10892762
It's pure; second ingredient is ascorbic acid and it says concentration is 10%, which is mid-high. If you have even a hint of redness after cleansing or flakiness towards the end of the day, switching the C serum to the morning is a good move. To minimize irritation, you could also do every other day on the tret, or MonWedFri, etc. You might also be just fine with daily and combining with the C.

You don't need a toner, however, having damp skin before tret will enhance absorption so it works better, the same way a wet sponge picks up more from the counter. "Working better" can be good or bad, depending on your sensitivity. I am closer to 40 than 30, I have dry/combo skin, and I'm trying to double up on the anti-aging by using both peptides and tret, so I personally prefer more product layers.

In the end, skincare is part science and part personal preference/function, so it's ok to experiment as long as you really tune in to results.

What >>10893578 >>10893640 said. At the basic level, you enjoy the vendor booths, the panels, concerts, enjoy the feeling of having a ton of people around you that are the same as you and to some degree meeting people as well. There's of course much more to explore, but those things often depend on the con and location.

>Is it uncomfortable or awkward?
Maybe, if you feel uncomfortable indulging in your hobby. Otherwise not really. Might take a bit to get used to the environment there if you've never been to a nerd con, but once you're in the vibe, it's quite enjoyable.

>My voice is pretty deep too so I'm kinda nervous to just walk around or potentially strike a conversation.
At least on con grounds there's nothing to worry about. People are well accepting since everyone's to some degree aware what it means to be slightly out of the norm. Same goes for crossdressing, it's become much more common on cons to see guys crossdressing, whether ironically or seriously. As long as you have fun and don't give off the vibe you wish you were somewhere else far away now, you will be fine. If you pull it off well enough, people will approach you on their own since most of them are just hyped to see a familiar character at the con.

IMO just have an open mind for the new experience and let it get to you. Everything else will come together on its own. At the end of the day, having fun is all that matters.

Idk if i should attempt to make it more "realistic", the only goal i want to achieve is for it to look real and to atleast give in to the touch, so i don't have a pair of rock-hard titties. I will update if it works within a few days once it's done but idk if anyone has already tried this, is it worth the effort?

When I covered EVA foam in spandex and 1/4" foam rubber they looked pretty good and the foam gave them some give so they weren't "rock hard".

When I made mine (which were similar but EVA instead of paper mache) they looked looked good but were uncomfortable and kept riding up.

Are there any styling tips for wigs?
Mine looks pretty bad and the ahoge is non existent too. I guess I'm wondering how to give it a more fluffed up and "anime-ish" look if that makes sense? Is it just hair spray/gel?
Also the bangs are way too long but I'm afraid that trimming it will mess it up with how terrible I am at cutting hair.

>> No.10894467

>>10894464
Your going to want to crimp any "anime physics" hair before spray and jell or it's not going to have the right texture or puffiness. If its REALLY puffy you can also use foam to shape out peices and hide it in the hair. I recommend looking up the name of a simulare hairstyle on YouTube and finding a hair cutting tutorial. I like to buy a cheep wig first to practice on befor I work on the one I'm actually using for con. That way if I hit any road blocks it doesn't mess up the whole cosplay.

they are large cause i am a twink and need a large ass pad to look passing so i need large tits to play with that. Don't really care about comfort, anything is more comfortable than straight up styrofoam. They don't slip no matter how jerky i move, which is a good thing. Not that anon, but you can actually get some decent quality items through Taobao. Hug Sunshine is pretty well stocked with everything you need and carries wide range of styles, although I'm not sure right now if they carry gakuran outfits as well.

This store actually has a neat selection as well and from what I could tell from the comments, the quality seems to be okay for what it is? Ordered a cardigan and a shirt the other day to match with a skirt and bow set I got from a different store. Would love to buy a boxy blazer as well, but not sure yet if I want to trust them.

I would recommend a custom if you choose to buy a costume, it shouldn't cost too much more. The sizes will end up smaller anyway considering most of them are made in China.

Fun meme picture I took at a big Touhou event I went to this weekend

What do you guys do for fingernail polish, I have this one color I really like but when I put it on it ends up cracking after 2-3 days. What am I doing wrong? I usually do 2 base coats, 3 of the actual color, and 2 top protection coats. Am I doing too many coats?

Relating to my fingernails, I don't think there's anything of note aside from the fact that I usually paint my fingernails the night before an event since it takes forever to dry. Base coat, color, and top coat.

My makeup in general I didn't apply properly in this pic, since I forgot to add shading to my nose (I usually just use eye shadow for that since it works). Also I did a terrible job with eyeliner, but I usually struggle with eyeliner. I have no idea how to get better at it, my eyes are too twitchy and I think I apply it too high since I can't seem to cover low enough. Easily the thing I sink the most time trying to do.

So i just had a brainwave, i could crop it.
Can't find picrel of exact one i have, it's like this one, except no signs, pocket and is much longer plus the sleeves have that tapered-in look that i find cute.
I could crop it, i look best when i expose my midriff (i think it has to do with contrasting colors/the size of my tiddies and ass). Should i bother with re-connecting the bottom bit with the stretchy line? i dislike croppped hoodies that don't jus swoosh and i could gain a black tube scarf.I could also paint on it, though what would i paint? i was thinking some elaborate personal shit with like metal ass depictions of spacemen getting sacrificed, call it "soviet space program" or some shit, but idk, would a girl be as boycoded? That said, the chest seems too large relative to your body's weight. Your arms especially betray that you are fairly thin, but from the side you appear obese due to how far the chest protrudes.
Also, while I have no idea why, the moment I see your face, I can tell you're male, even disregarding the entire rest of the image. Someone with more experience can probably tell you why that is, all I know is that I can pick it.
Other than that, the hips seem good. When you lifted your arms and the light shone through the sleeve fabric, the outline of the body looked decent.

That won’t really cut it, CIS women have a very hard time developing that level of vascularity without being “enhanced” (roids) and even then having it occur on forearms is rare without lots of juice, training, and/or specific genetics. Foundation and body glow/bronzer may help conceal it though.

I've never sewn a day in my life, but I do have a sewing machine. How feasible is this to make?

I want to start crossplay/crossdressing but i have a very masculine body, how can i make it more andro/feminine looking?

Makeup, learn to contour. Depending on your build you may not be fully able to completely pass, but if you get some shapewear you should be able to adjust your hip, waist, and shoulder proportions to mask a masculine physique.
If you aren't skinny, you're going to have a harder time though.
For more specific advice, you'd need to provide a reference of your build.

In general- not too hard. But the detailing will be difficult for a novice.

The outfit is an a-line dress (super easy) made of two colors of fabric (easy with the right pattern) with a box-pleat trim at the hem (still easy) ruffles on the sleeves (ruffles take practice) and overlapping applique' cat head silhouettes (applique' is really hard to do well).

Not the easiest thing to pick for your first sewing project, but beyond the cat heads, you could probably pull it off.

If you talk about my body, i am tall and really skinny (178cm, 62 kg) i got recently the idea of go gym for work on my legs and thigh to have a more "hourglass" figure but if it's the best idea for that

i have a strong chin bro no way i am passing without a mask. Mask itself is also part of the character i made, she's supposed to be one of those girls who goes to football matches and pretends to know what is going on.

The teeth here look fantastic, does anyone here have experience with these kinda fake teeth for cosplay? If so, any you recommend?

Fake teeth that fit over your teeth are called "veneers". They range from cheap ones ($20 or so) that don't look very good and probably won't fit well up to $500+ for custom ones. Hard to say if this is a ready made product or a custom set.

For the love of god dont go grinding your real teeth just so you can wear obviously fake temporary ones that cost an arm and a leg.

>> No.10906611

There are temporary (take them in and out) and permanent (glued to your teeth by a dentist) veneers. And you don't need to do anything to your teeth to get either type.

No. I do cosplay for my own enjoyment and not a social media camera whore. When done here is about the only place I'd post anything of me as Ozen. Someone posting pics on the con boards is always possible, I've never said no to people who want to take photos. At this point, looks like ColossalCon East will be the first tryout of Ozen

What a really great question.

I would recommend "making your own" breast forms. Don't worry, it's easy and cheap.

I've used two different methods, both successfully. The first is to fill pantyhose with uncooked rice or beans. Get it to the size you want and tie it off. Tip- once you have one the right size, weigh it and fill the other one with that same mass of beans. The second method is to get 36" latex balloons from Amazon or Party City and to fill them with 16-32oz of water, depending on how large you want them. These bounce and squish similar to real breasts, but they're only good for a week or so before the water starts to seep through the latex membrane. Tip- put a little polyfill inside before adding the water to make them more likely to stay in your bra if you lean forward.

And speaking of bras, with either of these methods getting the right bra is key. You'll want a "full coverage" bra. Measure your chest just below your pecs and buy one with a band size that is an inch or two larger than that measurement. Select a cup size from DD to G. If you have a smaller frame / thinner build choose a DD or F cup and fill the cup entirely so that the breasts protrude significantly from your chest. If you have a heavier / wider frame or are more sturdily built, choose an F or G cup and don't fill it as much so that the breasts don't stick out as far forward from your chest. The breasts will still look big without looking fake.

Good luck!
