Because half the UK con scene hates the other, most of the hotel con goers hate the cheap and cheerful AL events, everyone says they hate the big expo events on their socials but got to them anyway.

Hotel cons tend to be mired in bad management and drama, Expos have the most resources, and best organised but are tend to be light on good events, or at least events hotel con-goers care about (i.e. panels you can have a sneaky fap to, or parties to daterape someone ((hi dairy)) at) And a lot of people kinda jerk off to the US gaylord events because they have the scale of an expo with the "soul" of a hotel con.

In my day ... it was still chaotic and full of drama but the drama was usually hilarious and handled with out ... well drama. We even got a better quality of mismanagement because when people realised they'd screwed up they would improvise. Like the convention panel that didn't have PA but did have theses wheeled pallets for moving in PA so they turned the panel into cosplay human curling.

People are starting to call out the trans brigade for abusing people, but are having to preface every comment by stating that they're not transphobic, otherwise the mob rips them apart. Man, things really fuckin got crazy post covid, hasn't it?
Splitting it halfway with someone does make it fairly modest but that's still enough money to just go into one of the better cons abroad.

The smaller cons are cheaper ofc but there's not much to there and all I see here are people making up drama about (alleged) sex pests and women harassers.
At the end of the day we're just gonna be hanging outside in cosplay drunk or high on something and at least excel's bay area/green area has like 15 hotels worth of degenerates chilling as opposed to 1 from insertuniversityconhere.

I've seen people who claim to be "boycotting" MCM on moral grounds (last May had some issues), when really it's personal finance grounds. Others are definitely sick of MCM, and fair play to anyone who's had enough of it and doesn't succumb to the FOMO, but MCM is still this country's largest comic con - somehow.

Megacon London next year looks like a smaller and cheaper event, it's also at Excel, considering going.

At least when I was there in February, most stores seemed to be doing fine. Arcades were still quite empty compared to pre-covid but I personally don't care for them much anyways.

Megacon London is at Excel, 13th-14th January. £48 for weekend ticket is a bargain. Been to one of their Brum events and it has old MCM vibes. They're also running one at NEC, 23rd-24th March.
There's Animecon at Drumsheds in London, 3rd-4th February. Another one that was at NEC now seeing if they can make their con work in the capital. Not been before though, apparently it was decent last year.

Spoke with security. Apparently MegaCon did not obtain the licence/permission/whatever that would let congoers shoot on Excel grounds anywhere outside of MegaCon's own halls. When MCM rent Excel, they rent the whole venue, so no issues. Even people vlogging with "professional cameras" on the concourse bit in the middle were allegedly stopped by security.
Togs generally feeling screwed over. A few simping for MegaCon/Excel, maybe trying to stay on their good side in hopes of creator pass lol

Well you can always clean yourself in the sink in the toilet like they do in some asian countries. You could also have toilettes and rubbing alcohol like some people do in camping grounds in concerts. There is many ways to be creative to keep your higiene, security will be always there in the airport and well yeah the problem would be the privacy.

Is all about being creative and to be honest how many nights you might spend like that 1 or 2? If you really are going for just the saturday then you can just go to the fox and afterwards just go to the airport and pretend you are waiting for a flight the next morning.

People think sleeping outside is dangerous and bla bla bla, when in reality that area is void of anything relatively dangerous.

The only problem would be either getting wet or being kicked out of the airport. But if you still insist in security, you can always step into long bus rides overnight or use the tube as well as in a saturday it will be on all night.

You can keep your stuff in the cloakroom area of the con for safety as this can be left overnight and collected the Sunday when you leave.

Like I said, is all about being creative. I rather be subhuman for a night or two and keep 800 £ in my pocket than trade it for an overpriced room. Extra points if you have a car and you can park it somewhere closeby.

i think there's a different level of what is and isn't a sign of predatory behavior among anime fans. context is very important. liking school aged girls in school settings is different than liking a character who may be a teen but looks the same as an adult that's not in a teen setting. age doesn't really factor in in the latter. same way someone may think a stranger is attractive without having context about their age, like at a con or in public. totally different than going to a high school and gawking at kids. obviously there are predatory people in this category but it's not the norm. where as someone lusting over kids in a school setting is basically always going to be into teens/kids. and i say this as a woman, not to defend paedos, but to point out that there's a disconnect between characters who's age isn't an integral aspect of their characterization.
