Google is utterly failing me, does anyone have that template that goes something like this:
"Who I cosplayed" on one side, and "who people thought I was cosplaying" on the other? At otakon this year I had a lot of people really confidently proclaim I was cosplaying a character who looked absolutely nothing like who I was actually dressed as

I've got this pair of ram horns and want to attach them to a latex mask (so they're on the back of the skull). Any ideas how to do it so that they actually stay on and don't drag the mask backwards? Although they're hollow they're fairly hefty, and as their base isn't solid (just the outer layer of the horns) there's not much attachment area for glue.

You're likely going to need to make a base regardless of how you choose to attach them, but most people choose magnets. I believe there is a latex glue out used for patching suits like Andromeda's but I don't know the name of it.

This is literally three months late, but try sock glue and sew a silicone band around the openings like the way its done on thigh high stockings. Sock glue is a body safe adhesive. You could definitely make a garter-esque thing but they'd be visible.

This probably didn't get a response because the question itself is silly. Wear what you want in cosplay. No one gives a shit and anyone who does isn't a real cosplayer.

>>10861015
I haven't myself, but there's someone in the last thread who has been discussing their prop commission. Most people find commissioners through their work posted on their own social media pages or groups on Facebook specifically for commissions. You can also look through the tags to see anyone opening listings. Cost is extremely subjective. Your commissioner(s) will give you a quote based on: time x minimum wage or above based on their skill level + materials (you have flexibility over this cost by providing materials or selecting cheaper / more expensive materials) + tools + profit.

Some people do sell 3D print files or unfinished prints that you can buy, sand, and paint yourself too if you wanna keep costs down.

>>10862160
Polyfil and armature wire. Or good ol rice n beans.

>>10862312
I refrained from suggesting the first time since I'm not adept with paints, but no one answered you so take my beginner's take. Most named brand is Citadel. Otherwise, you can use any good acrylic paint and try adding a flexible primer

>>10863008
Nope, gotta commission it

>>10867160
Idk if there's a specific brand but I hear most people use "rare earth magnets" for strength. If you need something lighter for your suit, I'd just go to the hardware store and weigh them in your hands.

>magnets for horns
Careful with those. Magnets work great for foam horns or other crafted parts because if they fall off they aren't damaged. Plus the weight of foam horns is small so you don't need large magnets. Adding magnets also significantly changes the center of gravity (because the horns are lightweight) towards your head making them easier to stay on.

Real horns will require stronger magnets and the center of gravity will be further away from your head than foam horns which will create a moment (aka torque) acting on them constantly increasing the likelyhood of them falling off. If yours fall off you've permanently damaged them.

Anybody ever pay for a 3d print? I'm trying to get this FMAB automail arm printed, and the 3d file is like $26, which is reasonable, but the 3d print shops around here are quoting me $300-$1500 to get it printed. Some libraries have 3D printers. Or you could look for some makerspaces around you. You might have to pay for a membership and materials, but it could be cheaper than your quoted price. It sounds like it might be cheaper in your case to just buy a printer though like anon said.

I'm gonna contradict the other anons a bit and say this: the setup for a 3d printer can be sort of tricky if you don't know what you're doing. It's not hard to figure out, just time-consuming since you're gonna be spending a while figuring stuff out and reading guides on how to fix initial problems. It took one of my friends about 1 week of on-and-off work (couple hrs a night) to get her first 3D printer up and running smoothly. A 3D printer also needs upgrades here and there (some of which you can 3d print).
If you're not interested in spending the time and some extra cash on setup and maintenance or if you aren't going to be printing a lot in the future, just find someone who can print it for cheap like >>10873312.

Buddy, just spend the two bucks at a drug store for a disposable razor. You're going to shred a hole in it if you try buzzing with an electric one.
Also if you want that distinctive "straight up over one eye, folded down over the other" military look, get it wet and shape it. There are tons of JROTC text and video tutorials about how to do that, basically you just get it wet post-shave.

What the hell is on Sweet JP's jacket? The concept art (top left) makes it look like a medal but in the movie itself the different parts seem to behave differently-
>red/blue squares
These look like ribbons to me, they're always drawn rectangular and sticking straight, not flexing with the fabric at all.
>arch
This doesn't seem to flex with the fabric either. It's variously drawn as one piece with the wings or a separate part behind it.
>wings
Typically drawn rigid but sometimes bends with the fabric. Seems to be behind the skull
>skull
Looks like paint or a patch on the fabric, à la Captain Harlock. No sign of rigidity or dimensionality as it follows the drape of the coat.

Also looked at what other cosplayers have done... they seem to variously interpret it as either pins or patches.
I know it's a bunch of drawings done by a bunch of different animators over many years so I shouldn't expect strict realism or consistency. I guess I'm more asking what would look best? Right now I'm leaning towards fabric for blue parts, then a pin for the gold shapes, then painting the skull and crossbones.

There's no sense in trying to logically reason with anime clothing. It wasn't made with logic in mind. It was made for ease of drawing. Most anime clothing doesn't even have attachments for the character to take the damn things on and off. Just interpret it in whatever way makes sense to you, is within your skillset or budget, and what you can execute most effectively. Nothing else really matters.

Good morning brother, same zogbot from the OG reply. Using a triple head electric razor would NOT work, I highly recommend you go with the disposable ones. Like the Kaz lad said, getting it wet to shape it works really well, I've done it myself before. Also seconding what he said about how there are a million videos on YouTube about how to care for/shape/make a military beret look good from JROTC or just old .mil guys. Honest answer, it's not ever going to be not see-through because that's what white shirts do, unless you get one made from a canvas sack. >> No.10874602

There are a LOT of in-depth "how to pose better" tutorials on the wider 'net. One quick thought I have is to pose in a way that highlights part of your cosplay that is distinctive, impressive, or you spent a lot of time on. Twirling to get your dress (or cape, cloak, etc) billowing out, tightening a necktie, adjusting glasses, looking over your shoulder if there's major detail on your back...
Even without a major weapon I've found that small props are really helpful in figuring out how to pose. I have some cheap halloween-store fake cigs that I use when cosplaying a character who smokes, it helps take some of the guesswork out of what to do with my hands.

>how do you go about patterned shirts that are specific like image? Just approximation?
Yes, you would have to approximate the pattern. I prefer the term interpretation though because that's essentially what cosplay is. There usually isn't official decrees on what fabrics, patterns, shoes, etc. are so we all just stare really hard at all of the available reference images, other cosplayers' photos, and our own designs to figure out how to bring a character to life.

In this case, you would pull up a program like Illustrator and create the repeating pattern. Then you'd upload the design to a custom fabric printing company like Spoonflower (there's a tutorial on this process by SarahSpaceman and other creators on YT). When you receive your fabric, you'd use a simple button down pattern to make the shirt. Then profit. Or you could commission someone do to any of those steps for you. Sometimes if you're lucky, a cosplayer will be selling custom fabric (DangerousLadies does this) or you can find a similar enough looking one irl.

Tacky glue, hot glue, and thick clear glue like (Ohuu brand and Gorilla Glue) are commonly used. There isn't a consensus on which is best. Everyone has their preference. Personally, hot glue is just fine.

>I've seen people use hot glue, but wouldn't that be super noticeable?

Hey first time cosplayer, I want to buy a costume off Ali and I got my measurements done but the issue is the costume I want has this size chart and its all confusing.

The chart says I'm large on bust, medium to small on waist and XL on hips.

The height I'm small to xs.

How do you guys figure out what to buy. Do I just buy according to my height? Or do I buy something in between all the sizes?

Most Chinese stuff tend to run small and if something is too big its at least wearable.
So I would always go at least 1 size up. Maybe M or L.
I would think height and waist measurements would be the most important.

Chinese people are like on a slider, there isn't much variation to body shape and height/weight scales up and down in a consistent way.

Your best bet is to buy to the largest measurement then take in what's too big once you receive the costume. You WILL need to modify the costume if you're not built like a typical East Asian and if you want to look semi-decent.

The lazy answer is telling you to google free printing services at a library or something. But that's useless if you're printing anything bigger than a deck of cards.

There are shops and online places, but they usually charge like crazy.

The best bet is to find someone who will do printing commissions on etsy, r*ddit or IG.

If you decide to get a printer yourself, keep an eye on the Ender 3 V3 SE, it's supposed to be a very user friendly, cheap printer that comes out soon. But it might be crap, so look at the reviews when it's out.

Any ideas on how to approach this? My present approach is to wrap my head in plastic wrap and duck tape to make a form fitting pattern from which to create a foam helmet and use foam clay to make the horns.

first of all why in the world would you want to cosplay this thing lmfao.. second of all maybe build up the shape with the kind of fursuit/mattress green foam from joanns, coat it in latex, and do some serious theater prosthetic makeup to latex it around your face to hide the gap. itll suck having your ears totally covered without being able to take it off.
another option might be to adapt the design so that it intentionally looks like a separate helmet/hat thing. like make the edges around the face look clean and straight. still would probably wanna use foam. clay around the whole thing will probably be heavy and fragile so if you cant afford that much latex try paper mache or a eva foam sheet shell

Making it completely out of foam clay will be expensive and heavier. Make the horns and flat top out of Eva foam sheets, and make them hollow. For cosplay repair stations I've found they will at least ask you what you want to do before they let you in. Super late, but I’ll give my 2 cents anyway

>Anons, what are your criteria for a good vs. bad wig?
-how close does the color match what I’m looking for?
-does it shed a lot?
-does it tangle easily?
-is it easy to comb?
-is it shiny?
-how does it look in natural vs synthetic lighting?
-wig cap size? (This one is mostly important to me because I have very long natural hair, so smaller cap size is annoying to get on and can feel tight)

>I've purchased a few cheap wigs on Amazon
First thing to keep in mind is that you get what you pay for. A cheap wig off of Amazon is probably gonna look like a cheap wig off of Amazon. Which isn’t necessarily to say you shouldn’t buy wigs there, you just need to put in more work to make it look nice. You can use fabric softener to get rid of shine and use other hair care products to reduce tangling.

I think the most important part of buying wigs on Amazon is seeing reviews with pictures. So many people leave positive reviews because they bought it for a Halloween party and have no actual standards for what a wig should look like. Unless you see actual photos of the wig (ideally multiple pics with different light sources), I wouldn’t buy it. Let other people waste their money first before you commit to it

>How do you judge the color of a wig if you're buying online?
The best places to buy wigs are arda and epic cosplay wigs because they have huge galleries of customer photos that you can sort by color.

If you cut the bands, the braid shouldn't collapse immediately. You should know that there is nothing you can do to keep it looking perfect the entire day. Braids usually require re-braiding after a few wears plus upkeep for the flyaways. You could use a matching color of mesh to put on top. Rapunzel and Elsa cosplayers are known to do this for their braids to keep the fly aways to a minimum and the braid mostly in tact. Next time if you can use clear or same color rubber bands, you can just leave them in the braid.

You can:
1. Change the way you put up your hair underneath you cap. This video shows you a couple of different methods you can try to distribute the mass of hair not just in the back of your head. This also helps to give a smoother finish. https://youtu.be/1tFAxdso6iI?si=IsZ-J6mSoBwdniYG
2. Change the types of wig cap(s) you're using. The video touches on this too. It suggests using a mesh wig cap for breathability, then a nylon cap for smoothing. If you're prone to tension headaches though, this probably not a good idea.
3. Give your wig something to grip onto. You can use the X-shape for pinning wigs or sew some clips into the band to slide underneath the wig cap. Personally, I've found a lot of success with the velvet and silicone wig grips. It's a band that goes around the crown of your head to give the wig something better to grip onto. They're available on Amazon.
4. If your wig is long or the style leans more in the back (such as a ponytail wig), make sure you're using proper supports. KinpatsuCosplay has a great tutorial on how to balance huge gravity defying wigs on Youtube.

This would not be a good entry for a technical cosplay contest. Maybe only for a tiny, local con/event, or if the winner is by popularity vote/how hot the cosplayer is. The costume is basically "I modded thrift pieces" tier, the next step up from closet cosplay. A basic pleated skirt would not get many points and it sounds like yours won't look accurate anyways.

There's always something where at a glance I can tell they're not legit security - a wig, orange-tipped peacebonded guns, or some little je ne sais quoi about their outfit that's something regular security wouldn't have. Plus security typically is stationed in place rather than patrolling the floor or actively shopping.

I have a maintenance routine to keep away acne which I put on before bed (3 rounds of isotretinoin is what it took to kill it), then have a non-oil based moisturizing sunscreen I put on before I go outside.

Glue then sand. Sometimes the glue will leak out and you'll want to sand that. Plus you'll usually need to use filler primer to fill the gaps between seams and you can't do that unless you've already created seams by gluing pieces together.

ntayrt, but I think you both are talking about the same thing using different words.
Leggings are thick material -- usually a stretchy fabric like spandex, nylon, or a cotton blend. People wear them like pants.
Tights and pantyhose are mesh. They cannot be worn independently of an overgarment. They also have varying layers of opacity and color. This anon is suggesting you cover up by going with something that is not skin-colored -- probably because we aren't sure what is triggering you specifically. Whether it's the shape of your legs, the color of your skin, or just the feeling of not having anything between you and the breeze. Depending on your comfort, the solution might be different. For your character specifically, you'll need some kind of coverage because of the leg design. It's hard to recreate that on skin.

In terms of coverage options: typical translucent pantyhose are the thinnest and least covering, but most breathable. Opaque pantyhose can completely cover your leg from showing skin and they come in white or skin-color. They're slightly thicker, but also have good breathability. This would be my preference with all oft he thick layers you're wearing unless its a winter con. Next up would be leggings or pants made of thin jersey or stretch cotton. They will be the warmest but most covering. You could attach them to the openings of the bloomers so they fit like one layer of pants.

None of these options will look out of place. And more importantly, even if they did, your comfort comes first. Never feel bad about changing a design or doing what you need to feel good in costume. Most people don't give a shit and anyone who does is likely a creep anyway. You've got this, anon.

It's personal preference. Some people exclusively cosplay original characters / designs. SunsetDragon has built a successful career on original designs for fan characters. Same with Sakizou -- they're originals. Some people adore them, others don't care for them. You can't compete in them which I think summarizes the general attitude of the community: "fun but has its place"

Exposure and repetition. The cosplay scene feels like a big monster until you're in it and realize we're all just a bunch of dorks in costume. But you really don't know / believe that until you've done it a few times.

>I want to do one from a tabletop
Also, people cosplay from a video game trailer that was never released. And from mmorgs from the early 2000's. Sometimes I think the community takes it as a challenge to find the most obscure things and cosplay them. Tabletop certainly isn't even in the realm of weird.

When commissioning a cosplay maker how often should I bug them? They have a queue and told me they'd start working on mine in September or October, but their communication is lacking overall.
We agreed on a 6 month timeline and it's now been over 3 months without any work done on it, last heard from them 2 months ago now. Makes me worry.
I don't want to be overly aggressive with pushing them to work on it but they aren't giving me updates. Mostly just want to know where I stand, if they'll be able to start it this month or next and have it completed by the agreed upon deadline.
Any advice? Should I just leave them alone until time is really ticking or is it better to try to communicate with them in advance?

It's better to establish an update schedule with them rather than bug them, but it's your money so you should still feel free to reach out to them with any questions.

>it's now been over 3 months without any work done on it
How do you know there hasn't been any work on it? I'm not disagreeing with you, but most commissioners don't post all the projects their working on social media. As a maker, I sometimes work better/faster off camera.

>last heard from them 2 months ago now.
That's no good. Personally, I'd want an update once a month at least. You should definitely reach out to them and take the time to discuss timeline and a consistent update schedule as I mentioned.

>> No.10879192

>>10879156
I'd say an update monthly is reasonable.

What I recommend is that start off the project with an agreement with the commissioner about how often the updates should come, so that no one is "bugging" the other person. Since you're already deep into it, you'll need to make your needs clear and reasonable and ask them when you can expect an update, and then if they don't answer or provide you, you have to make the statement to them that you will follow up at some reasonable time so that you have evidence you made reasonable attempts to contact the seller come time if you need to get your money back.

I've always tried to avoid characters that have crazy hair or use wigs, mainly cause I'm pretty casual and a huge slob so anything that requires actual maintanince is ususally a no go, but I also want to be a bit more adventurouse in cosplay instead of just sticking to more simple stuff. How exactly would you go about doing his hair? My current idea is to get a white hair band and some thick wire and then glue cotton balls to the general shape of his hair and then spray paint them. You have the right spirit, but try different and better suited materials for the project. Yes, use a bald cap then headband. Then, glue on carved pieces of light foam (like Styrofoam, except not that if you can because it melts under 99% of glues and heat which are both necessary for this project. Something like floral foam or EVA foam. Then paint it to the base color. For the hair, you can use a myriad of things like polyfil (the stuff that goes inside pillows) or even yarn. If you unwind yarn, it will have a curly texture. You can brush it out a bit and it'd probably look similar to his hair type. You wouldn't have to dye or paint it either. But it's probably the more tedious choice. Then of course, you could use a costume wig or afro and hack it up to cover the foam and it'd be just fine.

Depends on your social skills and what you're looking for, but generally, yes, it's a great place to make friends because you know that at least people going there are much more likely to share interests with you. Go alone, go in a group, it doesn't matter as much as what are YOU planning to do. People who go in groups won't be together 100% of the time, people are going to split up and do their own things. You will be in lines or join photoshoots, you can chat up like-minded fans and see who you hit it off with. Pretty much all of my friends are from cons, most of which I just see once or twice a year at cons and we keep in touch online otherwise. I met my husband at a con panel and reconnected through 4chan.

Good way to do some planning is to take a look at the con schedule before you go. Find a panel or event? You'll probably be in a line with other folks excited about the same thing and you can try chatting them up while waiting. Go to a fan gathering/photoshoot if you're cosplaying from a popular series. Most events will have discord or similar social forums attached, so you can always start chatting there and connect with other people before you even get to the US.
I think most of all, ENJOY the con for yourself and don't get hung up over "oh no I didn't talk to anyone today”. People will prefer to see you happy and relaxed and they will be less daunted to interact with you. But of course shower, sleep, don't wear your ahegao hoodie (unless that's the type of people you want to attract), all conventional social rules still apply.

You have your answer there. You either sacrifice accuracy for your own comfort or you learn how to wrestle your real hair into submission under a wig, including trimming it to a reasonable volume. You can't create something from nothing. Just remember that no one is forcing you to cosplay or be "accurate". Do what you feel is comfortable.

I'm thinking of getting around to cosplaying at a con for the first time, and I'm planning on going as Finn from Adventure Time in about a month from now. I've still got the blue shirt and shorts from when I last attempted the cosplay thing when I was in my early teens, but I'm not sure on how to get the hat sorted. I wanna go for one of those hats that cover everything above the shoulders, rather than the ones that cut off around the neck as I always thought those looked kinda cheap, but since the former's harder to find, I might as well DIY one myself.

I could maybe try to get some cloth, take a few measurements of a hood on one of my hoodies, cut out some fabric for the hat's front and back based on the measurements, and stitch them together using a sewing machine or something. Hopefully that way I can get something that fits and comes out like the cosplays in picrel (w/ some space for a bit of hair), though I'm not used to sewing, so linking the front and back ends of the hat might be kinda tough. Are there any better methods or do I have the right idea?

I also want to try and make a "metal" arm like the one on the bottom-left of the pic. Currently, I'm thinking of getting an arm-length lycra glove and painting the arm's seams on to it, and I might try to get a bit more /fit/ before the con to better reflect the design. If there's another method any of you guys prefer then lmk.

I think the guy on the right is wearing the adventure time hat from Hot Topic, but yeah just using a hoodie will get a basic hood shape. if you use fleece and sew it together at the front you can probably pull it over your head. if you want it looking more ruffled then add height to the pattern, but look around at hooded cloak tutorials and just leave out the cloak. the "vriska robot arm" tutorial by anniina85 on deviantart that would be relevant for the arm

hello! i'm planning on cosplaying 2b next year but i'm preparing for it now. i cannot find any stockings that match hers where they are sheer the entire way up and then are a solid strip of black. the ones I've found/bought from amazon are way too small (I am 5'9 so they basically qualify as socks.) because I am so tall and have muscular thighs, the small asian sizes unfortunately won't cut it.

I found these as options but whyyyy does it have to have a 2nd band??https://sockdreams.com/products/perfect-sheer-stockings?_pos=122&_sid=14d2720ec&_ss=r

I guess the boots can cover the actual sheer part below the 2 bands but they were ALMOST perfect. If anyone here has cosplayed 2b, can you recommend any thigh highs? thanks! pic related I want to know where the fuck she got hers

First off: if you want an entire head-to-toe outfit in "fancy, professional, deluxe" quality you're going to really struggle to get it for under $100 even if it is mass-produced.
But anyway my general tips are
>look for listings with multiple angles and detail shots. AVOID any listing where the picture is just a screencap from the original movie/show
>find sites that have reviews WITH IMAGES
>browse social media (especially Instagram) for posts that have tagged the costume maker to see how their product looks when worn
>if you're looking for a specific character, visit the subreddit for the show/movie/series or search the Replica Prop Forum to see what other fans have done for the outfit

If you want professional high-quality costumes, you're going to need another zero after that $100. Or at least up your budget to the $300-500 range. No professional high-quality costume is going to be only $100, unless it's secondhand, damaged, stained, etc.

There are a few levels to costumes i think, under 100$ is usally the cheap crap made of thin plastic made for about 2$ and sold for 60$ in most stores and general websites.

100-200 seems to be entry level "fancy" costume.
300-500 Is probably EXTREMELY fancy?
And anything around 1,000 is probably the best you can get?
As far as i know...

Let's look at links.

If you want useful advice you're going to need to be much more specific. What sort of costume are you looking for? How much detail do you care about - do you need a full shirt or is a dickie okay, are you fine with providing your own footwear, do you know how to style a wig?
You're linking to sites with hundreds or thousands of costumes, not all of them are going to be "FANCY, High QUALITY, PROfessional, DELUXE" even if the storefront is trustworthy.

I can vouch for HalloweenCostumes.com (and sister site Fun.com) being generally good quality. But you need to read the description and look at photos and reviews to see what you want and why the price changes.
For instance, look at these three Jack costumes - as the price goes up, you get more accessories and the clothing gets a little nicer (more cotton and less 100% polyester). Any of these are great for "handing out presents to trick-or-treaters" or "will only be seen onstage from dozens of yards away". But even at the $150 mark it's still a mass-produced costume (lacking a wig and boots!) that's not going to look like you just stepped off the set of the movies.

I'm looking for a couple of costumes, honestly I'm just looking for "general" stuff that looks really, really good.
After looking at your jack pics, I wonder if i'm setting my sights too low.
The middle or high end were ones I was looking at, but don't seem much diffrent then the first basic one. -coat belts ect

Let me exsplain, in my exsperience around 60$ or under 100$ mass produced (in store) costumes, are the worst, cheap thin plastic and shit sold for 60$ (and made for 6$).

So, I wanted the costume/outfit MATERIALS to be a bit better, a bit more quality, TOUGH.
But I'm worried I might end up paying 120$+ for something that's the EXACT SAME as some 30$ peice of shit in a store.

In fact I have seen that online, where a same exact costume sells in one place for like 30$ and another for 100-130$.

So, maybe I should go 200$.
I want to do a "REAL battle" with the outfit/costume, I want to run though the woods and crawl through the mud, spray it down, and STILL look good as NEW, with no holes or stuff.
I guess what I'm saying is, I just really don't want it to be cheap (material).
(But I DON'T really want some thick heavy leather) Very, very light leather?
Less of a basic costume, more like a CONTEST costume. (I'm NOT going in a contest, thats just the level I want for myself)

Anyways, thanks for the help, I don't want to take too much more of your time. You could help others with their costume info. Thanks.

But also, I notice the costumes in pics are not always all sold together.
>(lacking a wig and boots!)
Between a full shirt and a peice, I would like full.
>Are you fine providing your own footware.
I will probably wear basic black shoes, but I guess I should look at some fancy theater shoes (hopefully sold for under 200$).
>Do you know how to style a wig
My theory is, if the wig is good enough(high price), it should be prestyled.
So, no I don't think I'd be good at styling a wig.

But I guess the more cotten, less polyester is kinda what I want.

fun pick anon. how new are you to sewing in general? if youre up for it, taking the clothes apart into flat pieces and machine sewing the spots on might look the nicest (would be impossible to do the sleeves/legs this way if the clothes are assembled). hand sewing the spots on assembled clothes is an option if you have lots and lots of patience because if it's rushed it wont sit right. alternatively there is iron-on fabric patches, or heatnbond ultra hold sheets typically used for clothing repair but it might work really well here.
growing the chinstrap yourself plus a little makeup to make it look denser would be the way to go imo.

I'm having trouble picturing this, do you mean to say that sleeves/legs would be impossible to flatten (makes sense)?

Patience here seems key like you mentioned, I could try one spot and extrapolate how much effort the whole thing would be.

>sleeves/legs would be impossible to flatten
It's difficult to put into words but on a typical sewing machine, because of the shape of the bottom part that the needle goes into and how it connects with the machine, it's nearly impossible to sew a full circle in the middle of a cylinder of fabric like a sleeve. the underside of the sleeve has to go somewhere, it would either get caught up with the needle or have to magically phase through the bottom of the sewing machine. the process here would be to cut the thread currently holding the fabric seams in shape, flatten the fabric out so it's all flat panels, sew the spots on, then sew the garment back up into a coat/pants along those seams you ripped. a bit more intensive process for a similar result.
since it's all organic shapes, cutting them out of printer paper and holding them to the clothes might be way simpler than trying to do a uv map in blender imo

At least for the short term there's the option of going on a hike innawoods and keeping your eyes peeled for a nice branch (if you live in a climate with those sort of trees).
DIY is another option, particularly if you're looking for the standard simple "gnarled wood" wizard staff that doesn't have ornate carvings or glowing magic stones. Using a base of PVC pipe, which is light, inexpensive, and can be cut to whatever length you need at the hardware store, then layering on craft foam/papier-mâché and painting can get a nice organic look with some effort.

For sure! Something like this is a nice DIY project because you get to sort of explore what 'feels right' for the character you are making... maybe the staff is particularly old or was damaged in battle and that's why it looks the way it does etc etc.
Looking around on other sites there are a lot of different DIY approaches people take but they all are pretty inexpensive! It can take away from the fear of "messing up" if you're not having to spend a ton of money on each attempt.

Rebraiding the hair is going to make it the neatest, but yes you can fix it while braided. Take a rat tail comb and use the stick end and the brush to gently guide the hairs into the direction that makes them look neat, then tuck the ends into the next part of the braid. Hairspray, gentle hair dryer, then repeat until satisfied. Once finished, get a fine mesh netting the same color as the wig and place it over the braid like a sock. Use pins to secure and give it the braided detailing. There's plenty of tutorials on this for Rapunzel, Elsa, and other Disney cosplays.

would it be feasible to do "fake eyes" and a "fake mouth" for a cosplay like this? or would i have to just put on a lot of black paint over my face to try and replicate a look like this? that is, doing a look like this where my face is "darkened" - could i just shove a black mask underneath and use fake eyes and a mouth? would it still look as good, or are there ways to make it look good? or would it only really work well with black makeup or something?

>> No.10887325

>>10887274
For the mouth you could put a black mesh fabric and fake halloween teeth or paint teeth on the mesh and attach it to the mask underneath. For the eyes, trying to do fake eyes would limit your ability to see so maybe mesh fabric again but a ton of black eye makeup would probably look the best and be easiest to wear.

So, an Anon already posted asking for advice on how to style wigs, but I feel like I'll have to ask again because I need more specific advice.

I'm having some problems on properly styling bangs (both blunt and ones with spikes).

I wore my Nijika costume twice, first time we cut the bangs horizontally with a scissor, then hold together some portions of it with my fingers and sprayed some hair fixer on it (the can was pretty close to the hair). End result is on pic 1, looked way too "blocky" and somewhat weird, also some parts of the bangs were entering my hair.

Second time, I cut all of it to a more proper length but forgot to style, so it ended up looking, well, unstyled. I also think I cut way too much of the side hair, because I just noticed later on the pics we got that my hair was somewhat showing on the sides (pic 2).

I'm planning on later doing Gura (blunt bangs) and sooner Ulquiorra (spiky hair), already bought a straight black wig and wanted to know any tips and tricks, both for cutting (like separating portions of it to cut individually instead of cutting all the hair loose), doing the spikes his hair has around the neck and doing those crossed bangs he has, which to me it looks like two long portions of hair crossed one above another and sprayed to hold the pointy shape and the placement.

pic 3 is the wig I bought for Ulquiorra (the pic is from the wig's customer reviews and ratings), pic 4 is the goal for it.

one last addendo, I already tried doing spiky bangs, on my gf's wig (she was cosplaying bocchi), this time we tried spraying it with hair fixer from a good distance, holding the hair together so it holds the pointy shape and blowing some hot air to shape it nicely (didnt work out, probably because the order we did this process was wrong).

Thanks in advance guys.
