Yes, asking for photos is super commonplace and to be expected if you're going to cosplay. And truthfully, most people don't find it to be uncomfortable like you do. There certainly aren't as many creeps as you're thinking -- especially if you're not in a sexy costume. Imo, it sounds like not cosplaying would be a better option for you since you're so worried about it, but if you really want to here's what you can do:

>When people ask for your photo, say "no thanks!"
>If someone is being persistent, say "I said no." then walk away.
>If someone is making you uncomfortable, find the nearest staff member and tell them.

I have a fancy camera to take photos at cons. Most people assume I'm a professional but I'm not and am happy to take people's photos for free.
Though I thought getting a camera would become a good way to meet and talk to cosplayers but most of them will just pose for the photo and then nothing happens. Some of the attention seeking ones will ask where I'm posting them and I give them my instagram as I'm happy to send them, but once they get the photos the conversation pretty much halts

Guys if you want to get women at a con you're going to have to cosplay yourself.

OP here, was sitting down in the Artist Alley eating a sandwich with friends next to the wall, asian dude came up behind me and was positioning his phone in weird angles. There was A LOT of free space next to us so it was really weird. (I go by what my friends said, I was the one not facing towards him and was directly in front of him) I got a little bit of him in a picture also. (he was also barefoot fsr)

second time was a group of like 4 dudes asking my for a photo in the Exhibit Hall and one got a little too close for my liking. (like grabbing my hips)
