I said the con itself is a bore, by which I mean the traditional con stuff. Dealer's room/Artists Alley (both of which are very small at CCE.) Guests, panels, etc.

The person who runs it at Prime mentioned that she's working to get it at the other Colossals. The reason it's not is because there's ticket minimums to sell for the tea. There needs to be enough of a J-fashion presence there and it's been really minimal. Otherwise it's lowering the bar for cosplays to attend. For some reason Prime tends to get more people into j-fash than the others.

Water cosplays are very prevalent. With that said there are plenty of people that just do "dry land cosplays", so it's not like you'll feel out of place with those.
I do recommend having some sort of swim cosplay though. The water park is what makes this con unique, and taking photos there is a lot of fun. Even if you don't want to get a "pro" photog, you can just take phone pics with a friend or join a group meetup if there's one for whatever you're cosplaying.
Honestly the con itself isn't anything special. If you don't do waterpark stuff, you're really missing out.

CCE has significantly lower attendance than Ohio. I'm not sure what else to say about that.
I'd presume CCE has higher attendance than TX since that's brand new.
CCE feels just right to me since it rarely ever feels so crowded that it's uncomfortable, but has enough people that there's always parties to go to and people to meet.
I have no idea where the hell people are going to park if CCE ever has an attendance spike, because parking is kind of a disaster as it is there.

this was my first CCE, honestly pretty mediocre. cosplay was v limited compared to other cons, felt like a pretty low % of people were cosplaying compared to shit like otakon or something. Welp, this is now the brief two month window where I can say "I've done all three Colossal's". Expectations of it being between Ohio and Texas in terms of size and quality were both correct. Also got a MUCH better first impression of the Northeast scene than Midwest or Northwest's. Gotta say though, something about the 5 day runtime of Prime and the noticeably larger Kalahari make it feel a bit more adventurous. Being recognized multiple times from other cons was certainly nice. Only major regret is not trying to sneak into night swim, which was apparently pretty easy (as I suspected it would be)

They didn't mess with me, but there was one guy hanging outside in the grotto area on Saturday. When he went out, staff locked the door behind him and ignored any calls for attention. My group went to help him then they said to back off, we can't open it and "He knew what he was doing." Since the door has see-through glass, I'm gonna assume they were full of shit.

It is, but it's still worth going if you don't have cosplay.
Simply having a t-shirt of your favorite show or story or vidya game will get comments and compliments from other fans of it, which helps in starting conversations with said randoms.
(Tight pants showing off how fit you are doesn't hurt either.)

The Karens or whatever you want to call the people that complain aren't the real problem.
It's the dentheaded Kalahari staff catering to them that's the issue.
This con brings in a ton of $$$$ on an out of season weekend that would other wise be dead. I can sort of understand randoms feeling uncomfortable or whatever, but you don't handle it by changing policies and shit to fuck with the attendees.
Tell Karen and her family that if they're so upset that they don't want to stay, they can get a pass to come back any day of their choice. It's that simple.
Instead, we get some zoomer in a low level management position that had "lead" next to lifeguard on his different colored shirt go on a power trip.
I wonder if the con chair is ever even going to acknowledge any of the shit that happened. Haven't heard a peep out of her yet. Even that pathetic manlet Donnell made some sort of statement when there were problems in 2018.
