I've come here to look at /cgl/ browsers in hot cosplay, but its just you guys reposting pictures of other people cosplaying and whatever the fuck lolita is. Frankly I'm kinda disappointed. I feel like I've been cheated. Don't tell me you guys don't actually cosplay, but just sit around on an image board and talk about it. I don't even think I'd care if it was bad cosplay or you are ugly, its just underwhelming that there is nothing.

There are very few people left on /cgl/ in the first place, and people are scared to selfpost. Some people might be willing to, but people are also too lazy to make new threads, so no one is making the thread where selfposters maybe would have posted.
And cosplay is even rarer because the hobby died when covid came so the only people left on the board are the lolitas.

You can go to /fit/ any day and dozens of those retards are doxing their bodies and on /b/ there are tons of faggots doxing their dicks, yet no one here is willing to post of picture of themselves cosplaying with their faces and so on blacked out? I will even be complimentary. I don't know, it just seems kinda lame is all. Even if there only like 100 posters on this board a day, no one will post themselves cosplaying? Why even be here?

Selfpost culture on this board died in like 2014-15. A lot of namefags/tripfags and selfposters left the board around then. Several of the cosplayers who used to selfpost here are still active on social media but there’s no way they’d come back here to post anymore with cancel culture and because crossboarders used to drop by just to insult them.

People tend to get mad at people for selfposting, but looks like >>10728361 knows more about it than me.

But it's more dangerous to reveal yourself on 4chan when you're into these hobbies, because cosplay and lolita communities tend to be extremely progressive, and you may get bullied, blacklisted from social events and they may get your job to fire you if it's revealed that you use a neo nazi website like 4chan.

/cgl of the 2020s is not the /cgl/ of the the early '00s-'10s. The folks from that time have moved on. The days of having con meets are gone. This place got taken over by zoomers, doomers and coomers now.

I'm not really sure what to respond when you ask like this. Maybe the social parts? It's also a bit educational still. Sometimes it's funny. Even worse, I came to the board for the cosplay originally, but the threads that I liked the most are mostly gone, at least I've branched out a little bit and these days most of my time is spent in the lolita threads reading and learning there.

At least there's the inactive help threads, but with the state of cosplay these days I'd rather have more lolita than cosplay unless the quality of the cosplay threads improves.

I want a thread where people share stories of interactions with normies in public while they're wearing weird clothes, would work for both lolita and cosplay and those are always fun. Can someone make a thread like that?

For me the fact that there are regularly multiple "bad [x]" threads going means that I have a (mostly-unreasonable) fear of a less-than-flattering photo of myself getting mocked again and again. I do sometimes post pictures of myself in existing threads, but if I want 'look at me!' attention I'll just post on Instagram instead of starting a new selfpost thread.

I like the help threads. Even if /cgl/ is slow compared to other 4chan boards it's quicker than other forums and has really helped with answering a question or at least getting pointed in the right direction. I try to give back where I can with advices as well.

It's generally harder to get recognized by just your body.
Remember that cosplays get worn to events where lots of pictures get taken so it's *much* easier for someone to put 2 and 2 together since individual cosplays are very unique

Because we're actually out cosplaying with our friends. wearing our funny fashions in our own homes, schools, and about our day, and have our own communities to self post.

Therefore, there's no need to flex on 4chan & instead it's a nice little place for people to be catty about cosplay & fashion, post what they're getting in the mail, and catch up on the newest releases.

Cosplay talk happens more when there's actually conventions to go to.

There's been plenty of those over the years, especially around con times since cosplayers have to travel away from the con center to eat. The "cosplayers ordering at fast food restaurants" is my favorite.

Cons barely existing for the last 2 years hasn't exactly been a boon to the cosplay scene... I expect as a few big cons come back cosplay posts will start to pick up again as well. Personally I haven't worked on cosplay much since pandemic, though I'm excited to finish current project for AX (if it actually happens)

In addition to the reasons everyone else has listed, the "what happens at cons stay at cons" atmosphere is gone because now everything it's obsessively documented on social media so less people are willing to talk about their shenanigans here and potentially get identified.
