For the larger trade show style expo events they sometimes have pay on the door. I’d recommend always checking the website of the respective event before making any plans or travelling to see what type of memberships/entry they do.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and smiled at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Because female con attendee fandom didn’t really exist in any significant numbers until around 1999 after Pokémon and things like cardcaptors as well as the Availability of digital downloads made the scene expand. The same train spotting dr who types who ran the cons back in 1995 etc were still doing some of the cons up until fairly recently. A shift definitely happened in cosplay around 1999/2001 ish and now it’s probably more female dominant in regards to cosplay, but more blokes attend cons. They just don’t cosplay as much.

I've dealt with Kenny before at cons when he used to guest before running his own con. Had issues with him, making cosplay contestants cry basically out right slagging off their costumes rather than offering constructive criticism. As well as telling people he's better than them because his cosplays cost more. He's a stuck up arsehole who thinks he's famous and deserves being treating like so.

Why do so many people defend him and CosXpo though? Everytime anyone says anything about CosXpo you have so many people gaslighting about it. It's literally the worst fuckin atmosphere at a con I've ever been to just in regards to how elitist the organizers could be. And yet they get amazing guests. I even heard they're struggling with their finances this year from paying the guests plus booking out the whole hotel closest to the con.

I can't verify that. But it completely jives with the shitty attitude I've seen from Kenny and other organizers. I only went to CosXpo the second time it ran but there were fuck all people. No one I recognized. But plenty of grimey togs looking for underage girls to take pictures of. And for a con for "real" cosplayers a lot of the costumes were shit.

Let's rate the Con sites in order from worst to best -

#1. https://kitacon.org - 1/10 - Utterly terrible and a great way to blow 10 years of good will. Shows their complacency as they surely could have hired an actual web-designer. Shows none of the badgenames or info of those who registered but you can literally play their plugin to show how many tickets are left.

#2. https://hotarucon.co.uk - 3/10 - Still terrible but mitigated by the fact they're restarting from Hibana and likely have very few resources. Basic but not terrible. Shows memberlist and gives several options so other fellow attendees can get involved, cool.

#3. https://amecon.org - 6/10 looks like an actually professional run website. Spot on. No memberlist though, unless I'm mistaken.

#4. https://www.kokorocon.net - 9/10 - There was a reason why Kokorcon sold out within a day or two (unlike every other event here post-covid) - the site speaks for itself.
