I've seen far worse, specially in the terrible old days were people cosplaying meant party wigs and colored cardboard and satin costumes.

I have my first post-covid con coming up soon. Also homestuck was divided into the “good” homestucks and the “bad” homestucks. The bad homestucks got unsealed body paint everywhere and were generally obnoxious. This caused the good ones to come out with a massive amount of tutorials on different ways to seal body paint, make arm socks, and how to construct other things like cosplay horns, which ended up improving the overall cosplay community. "black cosplayers have to work twice as hard while underage white kids will slap literal trash on themselves and get thousands of views") which of course meant that no one was going to take it seriously or had extremely polarized opinions on it. There's probably still a couple of videos poking fun at the over accessorization trend still on the app. As expected, a bunch of shitty DR cosplayers got all up in arms about it and there was in-fighting in the cosplay community each time it got brought up. They would send their minor follows to harass creators who spoke out about the stupid trend and eventually it fizzled out. I'd like to see it actually stick, but tiktok is the birthplace of "it doesn't matter if your cosplay is a shirt and a wig" so I doubt it was ever going to work there.
