The problem is the hotel. I was at Ikkicon that they held during the summer and the hotel isn't designed for a con. If you are going you need to park at the convention center, otherwise you are going to be paying a fortune in parking fees.

This is not really a convention, so much as an excuse to gather likeminded people in one place. That applies to many others, but none more so than Ikki. Of the 13 cons I've done this year, it was unquestionably the most average and middle of the road. However, the city and event are why I'm going. Well, that, and a bunch of people I recognize will be there.

Both. Granted I haven't been around 6th on NYE since the last time ikki was there but it was super crowded and every bar I saw had a $10 + cover. I wouldn't want to be there on a normal year, definitely not while covid is still a thing.

There's a scene and I'm pretty cool with them. Got introduced to them through Ikki, met again at Colossal Texas. A whole bunch of them recognized me through /cgl/ posts too, just by saying where I'd be or dressed up as. No doubt some of them will be back for this one. The actual con isn't that huge, but there's enough interesting stuff adjacent and a nice venue to make it work checking out anyway.

austin con community is pretty friendly in my experience. i'm not sure if that's the same with covid now, but the last few texas cons ive been to were surprisingly midsize (10-15kish) compare to what i might've expected.

Welp, flight is in under 12 hours. A shame my main guy isn't making it, but there'll be others. No doubt an unexpected reunion or two in between too. Con was incredibly lame. Unorganized, staff was uptight and overwhelmed. Both dances were bad. Panels were hard to find and there were 15 year olds too high on delta 8 edibles that were sold at the con throwing up in corners. 0/10
