Well, to add onto that. If you try and contact nylon straps to EVA Foam (I’ll take inch thick garage mats for this example) you have to literally open the pours or the glue will just fuse at surface level. But if you have a solid enough strip of velcro, you should be fine. Flexible straps are more of an adjustable thing.

How do I do pulled back hair in a tight pony tail with a wig without seeing the netting and such

>> No.10677768

>>10677762
Get a short hair lace front wig, and style it back to slick mode as much as you can, grab some wefts to sew into the front or different positioning. As for the pony tail, get a matching weave clip on, you're essentially making a miku wig but with a tail instead of a twin tail.

Abit of a followup so the sword comes in pieces that you connect to hold in place, I didnt know at the time that you had to glue it. You need a pick a wig that is specifically made for that style. The reason you're seeing the wefts is because wigs don't behave like real hair. With real hair, each hair sprouts from its own follicle and can move omnidirectionally. Wefts cannot move like that because they're plastic strings sewn on a line that naturally want to lay in one direction. A weft that has "reverse wefts" will be sewn to lay upward which makes it perfect for spiking or styling ponytails. You can transform a regular wig into a ponytail style, but it's more trouble than its worth imo. Check arda, they have some specifically meant ponytails or spikes. Kinptasu Cosplay also has a great tutorial on high ponytail wigs on youtube

Would this kinda wig be what in looking for or my best option? It looks weird but I guess my only other options are growing out my hair or doing short haired majima

>> No.10677924

>>10677902
Yes, that would work. If you're willing to front way more cash for any upgrade, a lacefront would be your best option because it doesn't have that harsh hairline and will look more natural on your noggin. Or you can cut costs by learning how to add lace and ventilating any reverse weft wig by yourself. You've got options!

Here's some examples:
>Malinda CLASSIC from Arda
You'll notice this one has the reverse wefts I was talking about.

>Viktor CLASSIC from Arda
This one is on the higher scale of expense, but it's a lacefront ponytail like I mentioned. DESU I wouldn't choose this unless you're a stickler for detail, but this is what they look like.

>Calliope from EpicCosplay
This is also a lacefront ponytail for half the price of Arda's Viktor. It does have a widow's peak, but you could pluck out the hairs if need be.

Tl;dr You have many wig options and which one you choose largely depends on your effort/skill, money, and time.

Keep me posted on the sword, a bit of a thought before I go to bed but if it’s a 3D printed sword you should be fine to use DAP. That’s primarily how they attach 3D printed items to begin with iirc. My first option was actually to say contact cement but on plastic to plastic, you’re going to create more of a seam than you want to since there’s no pores on plastic (as far as I know, don’t quote me on that.) and the way DAP (as well as all Cyonide Acrylate related chemicals work see; CRAZY GLUE, MODEL GLUE, ANYTHING THAT ISNT THREAD LOCK) is that it literally melts two solids together to get a bond. I actually have a horror story from Space Marining one of my armors to me while the strap was attached, and it created an extremely nasty scar on my left shoulder when I removed the armor so... try to keep contact with skin to a minimal. Either way, happy repairing bro. I’m here in this thread daily so I might be able to trouble shoot a bit here and there.

Anyone have ideas on how to make I-No's red jacket here? I'd like to avoid using clear straps bc I'll know it's there and it'll irritate me all day. Alternatively, do y'all think my ideas below will work out fine or are there things I should consider that I haven't thought of yet?

So far I was thinking of using a fuckload of interfacing, some polyester boning to retain the sort of open/baggy/floppy/floating look of the sleeves? Also planning on using clear snaps to attach the arm holes to the black shirt sleeve to keep it from slipping? (around where the brown strap thing is) I'm planning on starting off with a blazer base. I'd like to retain full range of motion, or at least most of it when moving my arms as I'd like to do some photos posed like some of her moves. I have red stretch sateen currently, would heavily prefer to stick w/that since it'll match the fabric used on the shorts and that sort of thing really irritates me if it's not matching.

Sewing patterns (just names/links are fine, i don't mind paying for them) are appreciated greatly! I'm mostly just stumped on how to make the sleeve parts, since I can't just do a standard balloon sleeve.

Also, how would y'all recommend trying to make the hat hinged so that it can open up like it does when spitting the note out? Seams/hinges covered ofc.

My sewing knowledge is trash but as for the hat, what is stopping you from making it out of 3mm craft foam and covering it with red fabric? You could technically make the mouth move by installing a low budget joint (like literally a thumb tack) and have the black part for the mouth be hollow and then use speaker fabric right underneath it for a more natural anime mouth.

Whew, that is some serious anime clothing logic you've got there. I can see why you're having a hard time figuring it out.

>So far I was thinking of using a fuckload of interfacing
I'd say go for the same type of materials used in hat-making like duck canvas, buckram, or another heavyweight interfacing. It definitely wouldn't hurt to put a wire through the seam at the top of the jacket. Boning sounds like a good idea too, especially in that top seam. The floppiness of the sleeve will depend more on the shape you make it as opposed to boning. It might look a little unnatural with boning in that area.

> Also planning on using clear snaps to attach the arm holes to the black shirt sleeve
I'd say to do it where the front of the jacket meets the shirt since that's going to be the floppiest and most unsupported area.

>How do hat?
Like so: https://youtu.be/rrDsPuDd9Fo
If I were making this, I'd probably sew a thin black top fabric to the red brim and then create the red overlay since it's already saggy looking. Or you can just paint the EVA and put the fabric on top with the design factored into your pattern.

> I'm trying to get this done by halloween :')
Oof, good luck! I definitely wouldn't be able to get this level of skill done in that time, but I hope the best for you!

But money’s money, also Robert-Ky sounds like fun, he’s been a meme as long as I can remember though.. but I mained AXL back when I played fighting games heavily, so I didn’t have a hard time dealing with Itano circus tier missile spam.

>Nagatoro build.

Tell your boyfriend he's a lucky bastard, also making big booba isn't that hard. Actually there's 2 ways to do it right off the bat, you can get one of those Taobao fake breast pads to put on or you can do the Valkyria Chronicles method and make your own. It realistically wouldn't be that bad to do the Taobao / Chinese method when it comes to doing big booba cosplays...

Here's an example.

Anyways
>Glad you found a job in your field tho!

Yeah, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. My issue is that I'm constantly drained, so I'm building cosplay off of literal will power more than I am energy nowadays. I'm also married to said job so cons are literally the only time I get to socialize. Double edged sword but I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.

>Felt that on socializing tho.
Yeah, I know another streamer in the local area who got her boyfriend from Florida from streaming Overwatch. I'm still iffy on that relationship but they seem happy. Yeah, the whole e-friends thing is kind of fucked up but it's like kind of the best we got from a social standpoint now that everything is put at like semi-hold. I'm kind of greatful I started meeting more e-friends on shit that wasn't discord or twitter, but in order to get there I basically had to go through some esoteric forums. You'd be surprised where you'd meet people on the net nowadays, everyone fucking hates mass social media. God, it's gotten so bad I'm flying out to fucking Texas for a waterpark convention. I'm actually working on this cowboy over here, and having an absolute ball doing the mechanical process for his P90 (Which turns into a long sword) and his Long Revolver (Which turns into a rail gun). God help you though with Magfest, I went before shit went to hell and I got to meet Siivagunner, which was the highlight of the con. Never went again due to Hotels being over booked, and me being too busy to camp hotel phones. As for RS6, My highlight is always getting a headshot by literally just camping the most inconvenient of nooks and crannies much to the amazement of just about everyone. What's the best way to get black-looking eyes in a mask so I don't end up looking like picrel? I have a few ideas but I'm not sure which is best or most feasible.
>mesh/legging over eyes
I could cut out squares of dark fabric that I can see through but I'm not sure what method would be best for affixing it to the inside of the mask.
>face covering
Wearing a zentai hood underneath a latex mask feels like it would get really sweaty and uncomfortable quickly.
>makeup
Doing Batman-style raccoon eye makeup might work, but I'm concerned about it rubbing off on the mask or not being strong enough of an effect.

First you need to figure out what the material of your mask is. Then, google which adhesive to use. As for the material itself, do not use leggings. Leggings will be see-through once stretched. Follow the advice of the professionals: the furries. There's actually plenty of videos on youtube about which materials to use but I happened to stumble upon this link from one of the vids while looking for you. It's apparently quite popular: https://www.etsy.com/listing/644886623/3-x4-costume-vison-mesh-sample-size

Grab yourself a 10 dollar heatgun from harbor freight and a pack of card stock and painters tape from Walmart (Patterning) some push pins and you can start off on. Contact cement too. The gigantic meme is that you use 1/2 inch thick foam from harbor freight (or whatever Joann’s that sells YYH brand) but the reality is, if you can find a giant roll of 2mm, you can get away with way more due to easier flexibility. It's seems easy, but it's a bitch and a half project to get right. You need stretch fabric, the right needle, and a stretch stitch. Getting the finger tips right is always the hardest. The best process I've seen to get them done is:

>Cut out two rectangles
>On one rectangle, draw an outline of your hand in heat, air, or water erase ink
>Add seam allowance to this outline (remember there is stretch so not too much)
>Put two rectangles right sides together
>Sew over line
>Fit glove by sliding your hand into the rectangle sandwich (do not cut it out yet)
>Continue fit adjustments
>Double, triple backstitch over areas where fingers join
>Finally, cut out your hand outline.
>Trim seams and take notches from curved areas
>profit??

Bestie, I hate to tell you this, but I don't think you bought the right wig for this project. Having a lacefront will help with the hairline, but above all you need a wig with reverse-sewn wefts to get the lift for the spikes you need without exposing the weft track lines.

I'm making this outfit right now and structurally it's coming together well but when I bought materials I prioritized matching the textures true to the image rather than the colors. Most of my materials are on the lighter end since I anticipated needing to either paint or dye them darker when color matching.

I am working with foam, faux leather, gauze linen, cotton and suede. The foam is easy since I can prime it and paint it directly the right color. I'm not sure about how to make the other materials more cohesive though, I have a mix of browns, sands, and tans that I want to all be close to a desert gray. I'm comfy with dying some of these fabrics like the gauze and cotton but fear I won't be able to hone in on a specific color that way.

Recommendations for any individual material would make my day.

1. Gather reference photos from the show and cosplayers you admire of the outfits you're considering making
2. For each costume, write down every piece of the costume from top to bottom (this includes accessories, undergarments, props, etc.)
3. From this piece list, think about what you would need to make or buy it.
> If buy, it's helpful to list some places where you might wanna look or give a price estimate
> If make, include materials and tools. Separate this list further by what you have and what you'd need to buy.
4. Compare and contrast costumes. Here's some guiding questions:
>Do I have enough time to make this costume before my deadline?
>Do I have enough money to buy/commission the pieces, costume, or materials needed for this?
>Do I have enough skill or energy for this costume?

I can't speak to bleaching/tie-dyeing, but I do have another piece of advice. It comes out as more of a rust brown irl when you use the traditional black dye + bleach trick. Like the other anon said, remember that you're not starting from the same white fabric base that most black/bleach dye jobs do so your results will be different. On a white shirt, the only dye being lifted by the bleach is the black dye whereas with your shirt, the black and heather gray dyes would lift which would likely create a muddled gray-brown

In terms of color, all the non-permanent dye I saw on Amazon looks like it'll make my hair too stiff for that blowy windy sorta look Sephi has, and I think it'd also wash out if it rains (which it probably will). Is there anything that lasts, like, only 3 days then washes out?

>all the non-permanent dye
This is the worst possible decision you could make. You would need to be platinum blonde for it to even look remotely gray and even then, it's gonna be a muted gray, not the stark gray you need for Sepiroth. Further more, real hair for costumes is always a bust because human hair doesn't behave like wig hair and is a bitch to style because you have to worry about oil, tangling, comfort, and washing.

I agree with the other anon, either buy a prestyled wig or save this costume for another time.

To my knowledge, you would use the thinner widths if you were making a garment with toooons of boning like historical stays. With a corset like the one you're making, I think 1/4th or 3/8th would be fine. You can check out corset making sites like Aranea Black for help though. They have free resources and patterns. To my knowledge the material the boning is made out of it more important than the width as it will have some impact on how it moves and keeps for the future. I'm no expert, so I don't want to say anything with assurance but that's my understanding of boning.

> However I was making it into two pieces to be able to hand do the pattern on her bra (or lace top)
I'm a little confused as to what you mean by "hand do the pattern". Assuming you mean drafting the pattern yourself, you could easily add that on to the existing corset like a bustier. Considering that you will need an undergarment to wear under your corset anyway, it couldn't hurt to make it part of your lace slip. You'd probably just want to find a way to keep it fixed in the right position so the pretty lace doesn't slide underneath the corset -- also for nip slip security.

> However I was making it into two pieces to be able to hand do the pattern on her bra (or lace top)

I was either going to Handsew/Bead/do pearls in the pattern on her breast area on a blank strapless bra I got (I added lace). It has some support because I'm heavy chested and the Corset was actually meant for additional support since my underbust corset I patterned off made it so my girls don't move with the bra/Corset when I tried on.

I can definetely rethink what I was doing and also install a slip which I was thinking anyway since i've worn corsets before and know the feeling. I just wanted to give my Es support so they don't fall out and
be able to make it smaller as I lose weight.

Anon if you’re still around, making it a cupped corset with lace overlay on the cups is easier than making an underbust and wearing a bra under it. Having the whole corset as 1 piece will also be more comfy to wear bc where the corset and bra overlap will rub on your skin a lot.

I'm putting the final touches on my Raoul Duke outfit from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The last piece missing is the pants he wears at the start of the movie. I've seen people use regular gray/offwhite pants in other outfits, but that doesn't look correct to me, and I have no clue what I would call the actual color of the pants. They're certainly off-white, you can compare white stuff like his shoes or cigarette to see that it's not just lighting. I'd call it "dusty rose" since it seems a pale/light pink, a little warmer than khaki; you could probably achieve that color by getting white pants and lightly dyeing them (i.e. pulling out of the dye bath early) to get the shade you want.
FWIW I haven't seen the movie yet so I'm just going off of your reference pic.

Here.

Yeah, I can help. But I'd prefer if you have a bit more fundamentals or give a realistic deadline on doing this. Otherwise look up a Templar Helmet as your template for EVA foam. Obviously don't draw it out that way but keep the initial shapes. The top of the helmet, instead of flat, can be slightly curved and cut out as a circle, with the edge cut out at a 45 degree angle cut , heat formed and curved slightly to get the dome-ish shape. The scuba gear can either be tackled with foam dowel rods from Joanns if you want to pay YaYaHan the foam Tax, or you could use Walmart Dowel Rods if you have access to a hand saw or a band saw.

You -could- use PVC pipes, but I'm going to be real, you're probably adding more weight onto that helmet than you realistically should add.

i-no anon stuck here

anyone have ideas on how to make the sleeves for the jacket/bolero thing? I already figured out how I'll get it to look like it's floating (a mix of boning around the top edge and interfacing to maintain shape, and using clear snaps to stick the cuffs to the black sleeves underneath so it doesn't slip up or down as I move)

but i have no idea how to get that large almost balloon-ish sleeve, without having the balloon sleeve gathers/ruffles.

first off, that site looks really cool, definitely need to poke around there because the prices are really reasonable and some of the patterns look sick.

I would strongly consider/experiment with using a really stiff interfacing in order to help it maintain it's shape. The big concern isn't making an oversized sleeve, but with it collapsing, right? if you use something stiff like 808 Craftfuse that mf isn't going to collapse (and you can line it so the interfacing isn't visible from the outside.) I'd definitely at least experiment with it.

I do plan on putting snaps inside the jacket cuffs to attach them to the black shirt cuffs, so the bulk of my issue rn is probably just keeping the front half from flopping too far? What do you think about a hidden button behind the flaps? Or hook/eye?

Where can I learn more about the japanese cosplay scene and the suits they build? I can't read moonrunes.

>> No.10691441

I’m interested in making a Spider-Man costume based on his cloth black suit that he receives from Black Cat after Venom fucks off. In the Comic, it’s shown that the mask, shirt, and pants are all separate; I can only assume the gloves are also separate, as he uses regular webshooters anytime he wears a cloth suit, and the gloves on his normal suit are separate. Unclear on the boots. Anyway, what would be the best way to make a multi-piece costume like this that looks like a one-piece suit once it’s all together? Is it doable?

the best way is just to make it one piece. comic clothes don't always translate to irl and irl, you'll be able to see a very clear divide between your shirt hem, your pants, etc. you could try your best by making everything out of the same fabric but if any of your pieces overlap (e.g. your shirt goes over your pants), it'll be noticeable just because your clothes aren't comic drawings.

>> No.10691501

Fair enough. I’m thinking at minimum I can get away with separate gloves and mask that zip off at the elbow/neck, respectively, but if I do it wrong and the zipper is super noticeable then forget it. Ideally the top is separate from the pants because I don’t want a zipper running through either the front nor back spider symbol, but if it’s between that and the whole thing looking like shit then I guess it’s a compromise that has to be made.

Theatrical setting spray is meant to hold the makeup onto the actors' faces for long periods of time under hot stage lights so it's way more effective than your Nyx or Urban Decay setting spray. does anyone have suggestions on how to make a dress have a more conic shape instead of falling flat along the side of the body?
i don't want to add wires because then it would bee too stiff

I want to cosplay Nadja from What We Do in the Shadows. Where can I find a Victorian costume? I don't want to spend more than $200.
