>> No.10651905

The impression I get from other people on social media is that Animanga will have a huge turn out. I get people miss the con scene but with all the free pop up events and gaming tournament happening in socal, I don’t see many people attending Animanga. I attended the last one and it was very small and boring. Will Animanga even have panels this year? Their website doesn’t say much.

I, for one am glad that animanga scooped up this summer spot. Although AX is fun, a chill small con is so much better than a large corporate convention. Personally, I would not attend bc the leadership does not believe in or take covid-19 seriously, especially with the delta variety flourishing amongst antivax morons. They are disease vectors and the reason delta exists.

If you care for your health, don’t go. If you think concurs is bad… imagine delta.

I don’t. You do. Your source is “may” and “could have” in addition to taking the article out of context. One Google search of “covid delta unvaccinated rates” brings up multiple articles on how the unvaccinated are bearing the brunt of the disease, causing new infections, and dying from this variant.

Hospitals are filled with 97- 99% unvaccinated covid delta cases. 99.5% of deaths from covid delta are among the unvaccinated. You even see conservative conspiracy news sites questioning why delta seems to have a bias toward killing republicans… it’s because that’s the major unvaccinated group in the US.

CDC, WHO, multiple medical journals, as well as straight up talking to nurses and doctors who work on covid floors dispel that misinformation.

Perhaps that data was confusing you? Vaccines are 82% effective against the delta variant, so yes, vaccinated people who contract covid are most likely to have the delta variant. However, those people tend to have milder symptoms and not need hospitalization. Contact trace shows that the source and spread of covid delta is overwhelmingly due to unvaccinated community spreaders.

I can provide sources if you want the exact links. I completely understand vaccine skepticism, but I want everyone to have access to not only the correct data, but the correct conclusions from that data. It’s ultimately down to personal choice, but that choice should be based on correct info.

If so it's only going to be because of social pressure and changing definitions. You're right that heteronormativity is dying but it's not because people's minds are more open or whatever, it's because the rise in popularity of feminist and LGBTQ+ worldviews has ironically created a situation where gender and sexuality stereotypes are as strong as they've ever been and people are being pressured to either conform 100% to often impossible standards or adopt some sort of alternative gender/sexuality label and conform to its stereotypes instead of just accepting that people are unique. Add to that a rising perception that alternative identities are an advantage or even a necessity to get a fair chance with employment, college admissions, etc. and a growing trend toward associating cis hetero orientations with right wing politics, racism, etc. and yeah you've got a recipe for a lot of people who identify as LGBTQ+ but it's not gonna be what you're hoping for.

The inside of the convention wasn’t too packed at first. But it started to get a little too packed to move without bumping into people. The arcade and gaming area didn’t seem too packed and the artist alley is where a lot of people were setting up camp.

I miss Anime Expo.
Line was too long and hot.
Animanga has potential though.
Staff was on point, but not enough to battle the problems that we are now facing with comic and anime conventions from here on out.
Lack of Japanese guests and early closing times will get better in the future.
The security checks were seriously a bummer when they first started a couple years ago, but that's necessary at this point.
Extra health and cleaning measures will need to be taken at least for the next few years before going back to normal or maybe sanitation will become a permanent fixture, which would be a good thing.
I'm excited for next year and am thankful to be able to see friends this weekend that i haven't seen in a while.

Agreed, with climate change, conventions need to adjust to a new reality and NOT have lines or stop having summer events. These are the dark times we live in now.

I would also like to see the convention make up for it's issues by donation to prograessive issues to atone for its mistakes this year.

Maybe they were testing out multiple locations and trying to see which is most profitable. Planning for cons are done way ahead of time so maybe they werent able to secure a venue ahead of time due to various circumstances. Either way, of they don't fix their pr soon, it won't matter anyways since they have effectively would burn their bridges and goodwill in CA.

have a strange feeling everyone's gonna magically forget about this shit show next summer
at the very least,it wont matter bc, well, look at how that "bad pr" effected the turnout this year.
why?
bc ppl just wanna go have a good time at the con

>> No.10655808

>>10655694
I thinks there's nuance in the PR situations and other reasons why cons go away after a while. There's the social issues/ideology clash and then there's various stakeholder's loss of trust due to mismanagemnt, poor communication (no refunds), no addressing of the line situation, or too much competition/surplus of cons, bad dates, and or lack of focus/programming/guests. Look at what happened to anime california, hentai/yaoi con, tanacon, touhou con, rain furrest, and others. They typically don't go out with a bang but rather a whimper when attendance falls or it just doesn't make financial sense anymore.

I do agree with you on the point with ppl wanting a good time at cons. After looking at reviews and talking to people who actually went and not just keyboard warriors, people were more put off by the lack of organization, long ass lines/heat, excessive crowding, and lack of refunds rather than disagreement with the convention head. The people who did make it in without a problem still had a decent time but not for anything special animanga did other than providing a space/date for people to them to gather around. The artists who made a profit in the alley or upgraded to exhibit hall don't have much to say regarding the outrage.

6 people in my cosplay group got Covid. We think it was this guy who was hanging around the Pokemon Tekken game. He was about 5'4", awkward and Filipino looking. He was sweating the entire time even though the air conditioning.

He was coughing and hacking away. Said "sorry allergies" and kept on playing. I think he was there around the fighting game area the entire con.

IF YOU HAVE ANY SYMPTOMS, GET YOURSELF CHECKED!!!
We didn't hang around that much, but half our group got Covid just from being there for like 20 minutes. We weren't that close to him either.
He was also coughing onto the machines as well. I think he was playing wacca too.
