I really want to be "100% confirmed going" but
they have me a lil shook with it about to be June and still no confirmed guests. Esp with the hotel booking battle royal happening start of next month too. I'd imagine COVID is screwing them w/ getting guests, but imo AWA has always been a "Panel/Guest Con" during the day and a "Party Con" at night so it'd def wouldn't feel right w/ little to no guests.

Thurs->sun is available however the hotel blocks haven't opened up yet, so I just said fuck it and staying across the highway. I mean I'd really like to be in the con hotel and all but realistically not going to play a guessing game and I also saving some serious cash vs the 185/night the hotel is quoting out. Got something for like 100/night 2 beds so I can probably sell one off to a friend for a more realistic price. Worst case I have to uber due to rain or something, but I don't see that being more than 5-10 dollars to go a mile or so.

Also, is there a discord for this con? I recall one being around at one point and time but don't recall if I left or it was nuked or what due to covid stuff. Not talking about the con official discord, that one was a dumpster fire of like the stupidest facebook posts in one pot.

Also I know the booking website says the Embassy Suites Atlanta Galleria is closer than Sheraton Suites Galleria Atlanta. But I'm fairly confident its the other way around tho?

It is but we are talking a .5 mile walk to another hotel in a skybridge that's pretty nice. You can generally save about 50-60 dollars a night by just booking a little offsite. I know probably not /cgl/'s ideal location but there are decent and down right cheap hotels up by the Wellstar hospital. Even if I have to uber solo back and forth daily, most I am looking at is probably 20 bucks a day on top of the 55 I spent for a hotel. Though assuming the weather isn't bonechilling like it was in 2019, might just walk stop for food at the stadium places and go to the con after. Just use uber to get back to my room.

I get staying onsite has it's perks but hard to justify these prices. Not sure if I just had a 1 off bad time at the hotel, but the whole "can just go back to the room any time for changing/drinks/etc" never was worth it.

You gotta realize that AWA takes place in multiple locations, the Hotel exists the 'mall' exists, and then the convention center is shared in some weird manner. From a management standpoint it was probably the path of least resistance to get all property and building owners on board with giving it a green light. I can't really say I am surprised by this as I half way expected it coming, I doubt any con that isn't out in the corn fields or the like will go full mask free. At least with the current statement it seems that no mask outside is fine for photoshoots, if they take that away I might reconsider going to this.

AWA is in a hotel with a mall bridging it to the convention center, so it's a bit more complex compared to a stand alone center. I was saying with all parties involved it was probably in the best interest of con management to simply make a statement like they did where it's better to be safe than sorry. If nothing else it's to cover all parties involved asses here, I half way expected something like this anyways. What's it going to 'ruin' exactly here anon? Are you planning on parking at the stadium or something?

During the game it will be empty for any bar stuff unless you go eat at battery park, most shit across the highway that isn't a sports bar should be the norm.
Parking should be easy since you do it at your hotel.
Most people will only show up an hour or two before the game, tailgate by the stadium only, then leave.

not really seeing the issue here as I highly doubt people from the game are going to jump into the convention from the game. So long as you get to the con early and either leave before/after the game ends then traffic should be fine. I guess the skybridges could be a bit more packed? Though I am not seeing the issue here other than the resturaunts by the park will be crowded and uber might be shitty.

I guess if you're driving in you'll want to arrive a bit earlier if you plan to show up around the time the game starts but looking at it on google doesn't seen like a massive amount of foot traffic added going through the mall. On saturday I think so, friday I just know my friends would park at the arts center or near the total wine. There is so much parking around there not sure what to tell you. Mostly just uber/lyft to awa when I have had a hotel off site. Not really surprising, AWA staff from what I remember seems to have the idea that a pulse = best person for the job, but still optional. Once the schedule is out, less than a week away at this point, there is your answer. Unless you are arriving 3-8PM just uber, look for the ride share parking on the 3rd floor IIRC. You're juggling about 30 dollars vs 15+1 hour of your time and trouble, trust me you will just do the uber.

If you want to use the MARTA, it's like 2-3 bucks, you take it to buckheadstation(food) or medical center station(quick to the con), it will still end up about 10-15 dollars so depending on the price you may just want to check. The line at AWA is like in the worst location possible and the prereg line is almost always longer than the walk up and buy line. It's in near direct sunlight and the AC just does not blow there. It sucks ass and I have never seen it 5 minutes even on a thursday.

Not all of us work 9-5 jobs, some of us are going to the con as a small get away from the past year and work late shifts.

The issue isn't exclusive to lack of badge information, it's a communication problem to many of those who rolled over from 2020 or simply don't hear shit from staff. It's an ongoing issue, like hell they didn't even post the schedule was out on their main site and left it to eventbrite.

As of this post https://awa-con.com/schedule-info/ the schedule is still not listed on the schedule page with 4 days to go. Seriously how do you fuck up this badly? There isn't even an email about it either, hell the covid update wasn't mailed out till a few days after.

My only experience with hotels doing anything special are the receptionists asking if I'm here for the convention and then jokingly asking if I'm gonna be dressing up like everyone else is. Most I got was during my trip to Anime Midwest this year where the receptionist just handed me a paper with a list of room rules that hadn't been updated in a while because the rules listed a completely different convention that was nowhere near the same timeframe as Midwest.

Also keep an eye on your email even if you get rejected, my panel got rejected but then they squeezed us in last minute because of some cancellations.
