Have you ever chosen a cosplay specifically because you had natural features that made the cosplay easier to pull off or better looking?
Perhaps you're unusually tall and lanky and were well suited to cosplay a character with similar proportions because of it. Or maybe you're an androgynous looking woman and can convincingly portray male characters without much effort. Or you've simply got the same natural eye color as a character and didn't need to purchase contacts for that reason.

I haven't chosen cosplays because they'd look better with my features before, but I certainly am never going to cosplay characters that look nothing like me again.
I've crossplayed twice, both were feminine looking young teen characters so I thought it'd be fine, but I'm busty and wide-hipped so not only was binding my chest hugely uncomfortable, the outfits still looked very weird on me.
Also I'm never cosplaying a short haired character again, I have really long thick hair and even if I manage to fit it all in a wig cap, wearing a shorter wig on top makes it look like I have a huge alien skull underneath.

When picking future cosplays I also try to keep my face in mind at least a little bit. Round cheeks and eyes mean my face is too unthreatening for overly elegant or sultry or intimidating looking characters, but my jaw and chin are prominent enough to make very cutesy characters look odd.

I have a mature face, big booba and an ass like a dump truck, so I cosplay milfs and cakes. I'd look absolutely fucking ridiculous dressing up like a loli schoolgirl.

However, my dream is to get buff and crossplay near-exclusively, I'm working on it. The hag face works for male characters too.

Unfortunately I was stuck with an hourglass figure I can't seem to get rid of no matter how much weight I lose (some of it is my wide hips) so I too want to get buff and start cosplaying very macho characters. Duke nukem is my absolute dream but I don't think I'll ever be able to do him and not look terrible unless I get a breast reduction.

Yeah I have blue eyes, a baby face (think generic blond Russian), and athletic build, at 5'11. Unfortunately I only cosplay characters that I really like, none of which really capitalize on my features. Having a young face at 5'11 is a bit annoying, since most of the characters I like are shorter than that and it would look weird in group photos.

I could positively kill it as Fate Prototype Arthur but I don't like the source material/character that much, so I can't get the motivation to make it. I think often about how sick I could pull it off tho, so maybe one day?

Literally every cosplay I do is geared towards being someone I already resemble. I cosplay to fit into a bring a character to life. Going as Germany from Hetalia this year because I'm 6'1 with blonde hair and blue eyes, shit's gonna be great. Going as commander Erwin from AoT next year.

I think there's nothing wrong with cosplaying a character you don't look like, but I think if you really want to push the realism in your cosplay without spending thousands of dollars on prosthetics, picking a character you look like helps a lot.

I've literally always done this. I don't have the kind of face or frame to pull off small, cutesy, chirpy type girls. But I'm able to pull off cold and intimidating women really well. Saves me having to smile in photos too. It really attracts a certain kind of gross simp though, and telling them to fuck off just makes them more into it.

Disgusting men are unavoidable with any style, I guess.

I'm still not completely certain on the Elephant's Foot whether I'll go for a craggly look or the kind of 'interpretation' where people make a sabaton. but either way I'll be wearing a normal shoe or boot with something covering on top (paper mache or foam, I'll make a test of each)
For the control rod I'm similarly still in planning because I'm focusing on the wings right now and for the immediate future but I'm thinking about modifying the designs I've seen people use to make samus' blaster. basically pvc pipe with a dowel in the middle, and for the control rod some panels to make it hexagonal instead of round. if I get really overly ambitious then I might make some parts mobile/controllable so that it can open and close but I'll probably leave that to future years and keep it simple at first
if anyone has any suggestions on Okuu's other foot I have no idea how I'll do that atom design and have it look good. a wire construction would be delicate and awkward. perhaps just loop three blue acrylic spheres around my ankle, since I'm already ordering acrylic for the eye?
It's definitely the most ambitious cosplay I've ever done which is why I'm not bothering to do a wig

I'm not going to enter it in a competition or anything and my hair is really very close to hers. plus we're in a thread about using natural features for cosplay purposes.
wigs have advantages to be sure, especially for replicability, recognizability and ease of assembly; but my hair naturally falls similarly to the character's and it's already a relatively heavy and hot cosplay, with two heavy layers across the back (wings and cloak) (plus blouse), a large prop and two unusual asymmetric feet to work around. I have enough moving parts to worry about

I have the body of a long twink. I'm very skinny with a super thin waist but I'm over 180cm, with huge ass feet and hands. On top of that I have a very manly face with a chiselled chin and a big nose.

The only characters I can cosplay without looking like a freak are tall, manly (but not muscular) men with outfits that allow me to hide my thinness or crossplaying females/twinks that allow me to hide my face and feet/hands.

I struggle finding characters to cosplay. I have huge tits, a small waist, good ass and a cute enough face with makeup but my problem is I'm only 5'1" with short legs and thicc thighs. I would look retarded in short skirts unless I'm wearing high heels and even then it's not the best. I think my best cosplays have been Dr Girlfriend and Lana from Archer, but I wish I could do more anime characters.
