Lo and behold, TM goes for $1200 to a chick who's "been in lolita for a year now" and "can and will box for milky-chan". This dress is going in a mildewy Chicagoan washing machine and no one can stop it from happening

DESU it might just be a holdover from egl sales on LJ - CLOSET CLEANING posts usually meant lots of things leaving in one go and were popular.

I always got a kick out of those "closet cleaning" posts that only ever had like 3 items for sale, though.

I'm convinced that the era of new-litas right now consists mostly of people who buy $1k+ dresses and then offbrand everything else. I'm seeing too many people with Milky Planet, Milky-Chan, etc with shit blouses, socks, and wristcuffs from taobao or whatever.

That's always been the newbie way and evolution from newlita to full lolita, though. You used to graduate from buying Bodyline and lacemonsters to getting your first brand piece but still using offbrand everything else to finally learning (or affording) quality brand pieces once you could.

It's just that now lacemarket exists, which is somewhat more straightforward and easier to use than egl back in the day (especially in the era of depop and poshmark where newbies understand how to use it), and brand is easier to obtain, and taobao has replaced Bodyline. Overall, not too different a path.

>> No.10584579

I just saw a story of someone on instagram thanking k8 for selling her the same blouse I bought from her several years ago.
I had returned it because it was in horrible condition (pit stains and the fabric was extremely piled and worn). Seeing it again makes me die inside. I had wondered if she was ever going to try to sell it again. I guess I have my answer now.

>> No.10584585

>>10584562
That's fair, but I guess it seems different now because people are dropping a lot of money on some of their very first items. It's not like a $50 dress on bodyline.
Personally, the longer I've been in the fashion, the more I have been willing to spend. Spending $1k on your very first or even second dress sounds really daunting though.

>> No.10584595

>>10584585
I'd say it's still about the same; there are some people who will dive right into brand, especially if they come from money, while others fill their closet with cheaper items.

I really see a lot of newer/younger/poorer lolitas starting off with taobao resellers like Devil Inspired more than Bodyline nowadays, honestly. So many fucking Devil Inspired posts on social media.

Do so many sellers not understand that LM gives you the winner's paypal info on the listing? The number of times in the past year I've had sellers PM just to wait for my paypal address before even trying to send the invoice is a little weird.

I'd understand maybe wanting to double check the info is correct for buyers with newer accounts, but not for established accounts with a lot of feedback. And many of the sellers also have longstanding accounts, which is even more baffling.

>> No.10589035

I usually invoice right away but recently after I invoiced someone sent me another PayPal to invoice instead. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask but if you send it to the wrong one it wouldn't really matter either.

>> No.10589037

I never understood this either. Some LM transactions go so smoothly I get the item and never even have to talk to the seller, just pay the invoice and get my shit, and some the seller has a lot of feedback and yet doesn't see the big green box with my email on the listing page? I do ask people to make sure their shipping info is correct in PayPal when I send invoices to avoid losing protection shipping to another address, but the actual email is already there, I'm shocked so many people don't notice this.

I've had this happen too, where the seller asks for my shipping address *after* I've paid the invoice. I do get that it happens, since there are people who live in multiple places for college or whatever, I think your way of reminding when you send the invoice makes more sense though.

>> No.10589062

>>10589058
It’s not at all shady. LM unverifies you if you change your PayPal on the site. Easier to just tell sellers to send the invoice to another email than to deal with the LM mods who may or may not even get around to reverifying your account.

Uh, yes, I know. It's just a blanket comparison as to why online sales don't need any communication other than payment and a tracking number.
I still don't understand why you need someone to make small talk with you in order to give them positive feedback.

The "communication" rating is on LM because the site is extremely basic and isn't coded to know if communication took part in your order or not. So it's there as default. The site giving you an option to rate communication is not your signal to spazz out if they never sent you a message. It's there in case they were explicitly rude or failed to respond to questions. Please use common sense.

>> No.10589253

Wow so you're just an asshole/doing a shitty job as a seller that you don't trust the item to arrive intact or the tracking to work? Or you are selling items with undisclosed damages?

I don't expect anyone to leave feedback for me and I rarely leave feedback for sellers unless they actually ask for it. But if they are doing such a good job I literally have to do nothing but pay and receive my items there's no reason for me to leave them negative feedback out of nowhere, cause there are no issues, and I see that as a good sale. If there was an issue I'd message the seller, obviously, but most people receive their items and the items are fine if everyone was honest, which is an ideal and seamless transaction imo.

What are you doing that so many buyers have problems they are too scared to message you about or just leave in some random negative feedback?
