I would love for somebody to post a gothic inspired room/wall/corner that is good for photographing gothic coords in — dark walls and curtains mean that the details of coords don’t show up but I don’t really know how I’d decorate in light colours but still have classic romantic gothic vibes

If you want gothic atmosphere nothing stops you from using colors other than black.

Dark graphite walls work great if you are into really dark colors yet want to be able to see black on the background of wall.

You can also use dark pastels. You can go for dark wood furniture and antiques like in the photo. You can also go for faded/dirty pastels for long abandoned victorian house vibes. Think Addams Familly mansion from the 1990s movies. Or 1971 movie "Legend of the Hell House".

You can also introduce white color by for example using black and white checker motive and stripes ala Tim Burton.

You can even have entirely white walls and achieve gothic atmosphere by choice of other elements of home decor. Think the Italian early '70s vampire movies that take place in castles.

Alternatively you would have to invest in a lighting so you can take photos even on a black background by properly sculpting highlights and shadows. But that would require some money and skill to use lighting sources (you would probably need at least two light sources, early black and white horror movies were typically using 3 light sources).

If you want to use design genre specific terms - gothic would be late middle ages and
following that what is seen in the photo is not Victorian either. There is barely any Victorian item in there. To be honest I don't see even a single one that would be qualified as typical Victorian design. Some somewhat Edwardian, some art deco, some biedermeier - yes.

But that was not the point why OP posted that picture anyway. Obviously gothic was understood as in atmosphere. Not exact style. To get gothic atmosphere you do not need to follow any exact style or have over 9000 skulls and ouija board motives. Sticking to such items only in home decor is lazy, uncreative, boring and makes every home look the same in one way or another. It's a copy/paste mentality akin to fast lolita fashion.

Visit some shops like tj-maxx and thrift shops in that case if they are open in your country. Look the internet services popular in your country.

If Ikea furniture is all black and/or white and of simple geometric shapes you can mix it with pretty much every style that is not deeply ornamentic - loft, art deco, 80's modernism if you are into some specific styles. If you can hang posters - make use of that fact.

That's probably all I can think about now.

Crates look nice. I would sugest looking for 80s style home decor photos online. They would be fine in such style.

> How am I going to make my bright red couch look like I didn't find it on the corner of the street?

No idea how your couch looks like. You can add some red accents in other room/rooms if you mean that color seems out of place.

Depends on what's ugly about them and how much money you have to spend on fixing it. Fabric is always a good choice because you can easily remove it and use it elsewhere later, but for furniture (like wardrobe, etc) you can also look at painting or covering it with a nice contact paper. Google "contact paper diy" for ideas. It's also a good way to make a rental kitchen look a bit nicer, although if your landlord is picky, I recommend doing a test patch with a small square left for a week or so to make sure it comes off before doing the whole thing.

Anyone have some ideas for making my house look cuter? I have a little bit of extra money from my tax return, and I'm tired of living in a boring suite. The places I've lived always feel like someone else's space because I always moved before I got to decorating, but I don't plan on moving again for a couple years at least, so I want to live in a space that feels like mine for once.
Made myself a small bed canopy and swapped out some bedding already to help my bedroom. Next on my list is some contact paper for my kitchen (white marble for the countertop, light pink for the cabinets), some nicer curtains for my patio door, and some shelfs and containers for my spices. I honestly have no ideas past that; I've never done anything more than set up my basic furniture, a shelf for some figures, and throw some prints on the wall because I never stayed in a place for long... too embarrassing to admit to anyone IRL, especially considering I'm getting closer to 30 faster and faster these days. Definitely need ideas for cute organization/storage, and how to bring everything together so it looks like a nice room, and not 'these are just items I had that happened to fill the room'
Would really appreciate any tips/inspo; I'm so jealous of everyone that posts pictures of their nice rooms/houses, and then looking at my suite that was most definitely re-done by my middle aged landlord as I was moving in LOL

Fast searching brought me to:

https://www.fluminalis.com/inventory/antique-candlesticks

there are also many other ways to find such items - online auctions, antique shops
you can also look for shops that sell new church candlesticks, candelabres etc.

Smaller antique brass and pewter (be aware older pewter may contain lead) candlesticks are often not that expensive (at least on online auctions) considering their age. Silver and gold would out of reach of most mortals.

Wrought iron (typically black colored like picrel) may also be an interesting option if you are into more gothic style.

If you like more silver colored ones and need taller standing candelabra without going bankrupt - look for aluminium.

DESU I left that faith years ago, but I remember there are many fancy pantsy designs as well.
Especially altar menorah (forget the greek name for it). Also votive candelabra have different designs. I guess yours is the one where sand is used to hold candles? I remember in my part of Europe most popular were these like picrel. They make not bad decor too, you just have to be creative to create own twist to decor you are going for.

The level of decorative ornamentation in Orthodox Church was always top notch. And in Eastern Europe it achieved one of it's heights. Many motives use in that decor have roots in pagan pre christian Bizantyne Empire. Like two headed Eagle that was a Coat of Arms of the Emperor.

no problem

btw little sugestion - in my part of the world orthodox churches often use stencil based decorative motives on walls - if you can paint walls you may make some use of that idea

generally I mostly associate orthodo church decor with mix of gold, and red fabric (in my part of the world red carpets on floor are popular in churches) also fabric with decorative motives as in case of this robe. Also a lot of candles, olive lamps and often dim light inside.

If you are from Slavic country you may have local tradition of ritual towels that cames from pagan times - these towels are used in various folk rituals and folk magic practices and also used to decorate "holy corner" in houses - like picrel. Such corners in pagan times were dedicated to pagan Gods. Other indo-european ethnic groups had similar traditions in this regard.
