The misunderstanding is something I apologize for .When I got the items all dinged up n bows I was really confuesed because of the tier and because I was aware of the bow issue years ago, especially since I myself didnt do a good job my first time doing ss and how strict they were about meeting budget .When told he was sending another gift , I wasn't aware it was one already bought .I thought he was getting me new stuff because of what I sent to party and i was told that one item had to be canceled .So I thought that I had it all because of the canceled one and that he was getting Something else after being contacted about it. That is why I asked to not continue .didn't know other stuff was delayed and that's on my part for not reading the message correctly.i was told there was a problem with it so That's the only reason why I asked the organizers to go through with the grinch thing because they mentioned it when seeing my gifts as well.that n stuff being damaged sucked.so again im really sorry about that karl.Luckilly only the harness is damaged but I may be able to fix it. The gifts came already kind of wrapped. The box is a little hit but like I said the figure is fine. I said it kinda sucks having the box not be in super good condition. Because if I get a legit item I save the box and don't open typically. I do have this nen but as a knock off. I said the harness buckle front strap part is loose but I think I can fix it. The wings also kinda droop really weirdly. but I think my friend can look at it as they do cosplay stuff. I don't know if it's because it was thrown around or if it's just because it's a cheap ali express item. Because reviews were all high and didn't mention any of it. . I don’t think anyone expects people to go above and beyond, it sucks when one person gets a bunch of stuff because they find good deals and one person just goes with one super over-priced item. Like with the sewing patterns costing $30 when most people would have the wherewithal to finds them for far cheaper. I have a feeling that’s what happened with the purse and candle gift that everyone was upset about, too. Like that candle was $30 and most savvy shoppers would realize that’s too much and wouldn’t pay that much for essentially a filler item and would find a candle for $10. I got my person two dresses for $75 because I’m decent at navigating the secondhand market, but not everyone is and might pay that much for a blouse alone. And that’s not something you can make rules about. So one person might see someone else’s gift and think that Santa went way over when really the Santa just found deals.

I did ship it out on December 15, but it still just says “tracking number created” from when I printed out the label at home. Going above and beyond is NOT just having common sense and not buying the first overpriced listing you find when you Google, and instead having common sense and looking for better prices. But I wasn’t saying everyone has to do that, I was referring to people seeing a gift that’s not over budget but the Santa was shopping savvy and just assuming they overspent and then feeling pressure that no one but them has put on themselves to buy a better gift.
The only expectation most have is to expect you to put in a good faith effort to find a decent gift and not be lazy, that’s all. I think there should be a price gap between 75-100$ and 100+ tiers much like 30-40 and 50-75 are divided by 10$. I feel like it makes it clear that a 50$ gift might be actually more ok for the lower tier and that the people in next bracket would rather expect something of 75$ value. Just make it 75-100$ and 130$+ so 101$ gifts will be technically the 75-100 tier while the ones who want to chose the higher one will understand this gift is expected to go “up and beyond” when compared to the previous tier

Yes they will! We will put them into data, and release anything we noticed as repeat suggestions for adding/ removing. For photos of gifts that were included, Ill try and make some sort of "60% of people thought this gift was not enough/ too much" thing, so we can get a majority view of where feelings are in accordance to spoiling and what is deemed not enough for certain values etc. Then hopefully expectations will be clarified for future events!

Suggestions -

Minimum gift tier limit has to be a main CGL item, e.g. if tier is 30-40 then the gift should include a $30 main CGL item.
Examples of things are-
Lolitas: clothing, accessories (headwear/jewellery/others), bags, shoes, novelty items (like AP wallets and stationary and collectibles, that kind of thing) etc.
Cosplayers: props, maybe clothing items or accessories etc for certain cosplays the giftee will do (like character boots, sailor moon wand and hair accessories, shields, wigs, wings, elf ears, anything at all for particular cosplays).
Can also be craft items if giftee makes their items (double check what items they craft first) like worbla, Eva foam, wig styling sets, paints, etc.

Add a post/sticky document to SS OP threads with information on how to shop and where to shop -
E.g. Japanese sites, how to use auctions, shopping services, cute stores for fillers, Lacemarket etc. And similar shopping ideas for cosplayers/anime fans.
This way there is no excuse for not knowing how and where to shop.

Mods can keep notes of people such as if they've performed badly in previous years, are on a warning/strike list for undervalued and basic gifts, not posting photos, no communication, causing trouble etc.

Verification that people are cosplayers or lolitas with outfit pictures as proof, with a sign on the clothes sent to the mods saying CGL SS 21 for example.

As a rule of thumb for tiers it's a decent average to get gift 150% of the tier price, $60 for 30-40 tier, $150 for 100 tier etc.

This way you're not going too over budget but not spending only the minimum (otherwise you probably should select a tier down) and people can still overspend if they want to spoil.

Hmmm. What if someone is in the $100+ tier and wants legwear, then what, buy them one pair of $100 socks rather than buy multiple pairs? At most I'd go with the x% cgl-related gift, but a certain degree of cgl-relation should be a given without making it a rule.

Letting giftees decide whether they want more larger/smaller items is unnecessary imho.
Implementing this rule can also fuel later drama, for example if Santa isn't able to give a larger item (because let's say a wishlist item simply isn't available). Even smaller gifts can be well selected and fitting. Restricting a tier like that also decreases the creative room and shopping options for Santas.

I've had time to cool down a little and correct myself after checking my sign-up form. I didn't specify no sweet/cutesy stuff in my form, but I did get asked by one of my santas what aesthetics I like so I made a collage of general Jfashion designs I liked and didn't like, and Holy Lantern was on it just as a general aesthetic (but it also showed I did NOT like cutesy/sweet/pastel stuff). So I'm guessing that's where they thought I might want the OTKs even though I didn't say I owned any of the prints listed - just that I liked how they looked.

But I did specify on my form that the ONLY dark tones I liked were black, red, green, and grey and that the only metal accessories I liked were silver colored ones.

idk like for this tier level and collage, i would not presume to give someone accessories that match a specific print primarily. I feel like anon pretty clearly conveyed that these are dresses/themes they're into rather than specific wardrobe items they're trying to match. Getting black+[color or white] moitie socks that are more versatile would have been a good fit, or one of the cheaper/indie main pieces that fits this theme. I think gifting holy lanturn socks in a colorway that's clearly not their preferred shades is a stretch, especially as the bulk of the gift.

Candyland is a board game, anon. I didn't name the prints specifically because I wasn't being specific about prints. It's the items in the prints I was referring to. Popular consensus seems to be that this is solely my fault and that Santa did a good job trying to cater to me, so I'll accept popular consensus. I can’t do anything about it now, but I’m really worried about how I packed my gifts. I wrapped everything in cute paper I specially ordered from an indie designer to match the theme, using matching ribbons and tape etc to make it all pretty, but one of the gifts was a bigger brand bag that wasn’t very wrappable. I put everything I’d wrapped INSIDE the bag, wrapped the bag lightly in tissue paper and then shipped it in a bubble mailer, but I’m terrified that the recipient will think I’m sloppy. I drew them a little New Year postcard and wrote a Christmas card and a letter to go with everything, so I did try to make sure it was all cute, I’m just worried it being in a bubble mailer will ruin everything.
