Christmas is almost a secular holiday too these days for some people desu. I know Jews who celebrate Christmas and Hannukah, especially if they're in reltionships where they have families with mixed religious origins where they want to celebrate with both sides of the family. Maybe Muslims are less likely to do it but most people in general like the spirit of giving and being around friends and family and seeing pretty lights and winter, etc.

Sorry anon, you're too late. If you lurk the older threads you'll find the link to sign up which ended in October. You will also find a link to the rules and FAQ document, which will probably make you more prepared for next year. I lurked these threads for a year before I committed to joining, and it helps seeing what other people are sending and receiving in the different tiers. As you will be able to read in the rules you have to do a good exchange in a lower tier before being allowed in the higher ones. I hope you start your journey next year!

Having a slight dilemma - I bought all my gifts the week matches were sent out and I finally had the last two items arrive today. However I thought they were going to take a bit longer, and so a week or so ago I saw a little accessory in my match’s favourite colours and style online and bought it. It was pretty cheap (I don’t consider it part of the actual gift value) and might not arrive for a while. Do I ship now or wait until it arrives? It’s my first year and I need sone advice on card matches. I naïvely thought it was literally just a card exchange but now I realize it’s normal to include smaller stuff with it. But how much? Would my match be disappointed if it’s just a few stickers and a pretty postcard (along with a hand written Christmas card)? I’m sending this to someone on another continent and if I do any more it would be a package not a letter and shipping cost would go way up. Then I feel like if I’m going to be sending a package I might as well start including something better than just some stickers and then I start including other things and now I realize that I’d actually just sending them a parcel of gifts appropriate for the $20 tier and that’s maybe more than the card tier warrants. Also a standard postage package would take forever (possibly too long) and I don’t want to pay for the expensive fast shipping just to give them a key chain and silly stuff like that. Any advice?

There are people who think it's rude to send what the actual tier dictates (see the anon who got jumped on for saying they spent just above the minimum for their tier). It's ridiculous.

Sorry maybe I didn’t word it right. What I mean is things that will fit in a standard envelope and not weigh much. There’s a little leeway with weight so long as the envelope isn’t bulky/misshapen. I’ve sent an acrylic keychain (though in retrospect it was more like a phone charm?) to Europe in a greeting card and it was less than 5 dollars.

I’m sending cards with gifts on bubble envelopes. I always do that with my penpals and allows me to throw anything there, I already sent bracelets, hairclips, small notebooks, and other tiny things to penpals just fine this way, and I always pay for it as a normal letter.
So I rec you, try this trick.

I know gifts are not necessary for cards, but I think is nice to put some care into them. (or maybe just because I live in a shitty country and I didn't want to trouble my matches on higher tiers so I decided to do not participate this year) but I had a lot of fun trying to spoil a bit my gulls, I hope they like it.

I get what you’re saying. I guess my post office is just super strict. Anything that is not completely flat (like a cloth mask or even a flat keychain) they say it’s a package and not a letter. Even if I have papers that are folded too thickly and make a bump in the envelope the mean old lady there says it’s not a letter and it’s a package. Past years and this year I'm one of the people who usually includes things or sends extras. I 100% don't mind only getting only cards with nothing else inside. As long as there's any effort or thought put into it (handwritten message, or cute note about shared interests, or card art/theme that matches interests I listed, etc) I am thrilled. I think especially seeing an overseas postmark people know not to expect more for the tier. On my end it just makes me happy to shop for small flat extras so it's a double indulgence (getting sweet cards, sending nice things).

I started wrapping gifts today and it feels so fun and festive already!

Also a small heads up, if you receive a gift wrapped in pic related its from me, 8008, and you're participating in something grand. My father bought this fat roll of wrapping paper once, thinking it was a good idea. That roll has now lasted 20+ years, and he hates it with a passion. I own it now, and valiantly work my way towards finishing it off someday. Each gift wrapped with this paper is one step closer to that momentous goal!

I recieved my first card match! Thank you so much A, #4174! The charm of Pompompurin is so cute and round, and I just love touching his dumb smile in 3D. The chopsticks make me smile in a similar way, but the dice take the cake! I had no idea I needed them, but looking at their swirly pattern in "my signature colours" as you call it make me so happy! I packaged everything nicely in tissue paper and little bags, then into a large bag, then realized I wanted to add notes about certain items so I had to open everything up again to see which was which and add the notes to them... lol. then I covered the entire wrapped package with festive duct tape which took even more time lmao

WELL. I had a covid contact/potential exposure. I'm 99% sure I'm fine but I'm not allowed to go to the post office for 7-10 days. I only had card matches I hadn't sent yet, but they all had little gifts in them that mean I can't just put them in the letter slot and now I don't know what to do. I could take apart the cards to send with no gifts or send things a bit late but that feels shitty. Or send cards now and wait a week to send the rest??? I have no friends or family that could go and pay for the packages for me (just moved to a new region).

I just don't know :( i almost never leave the house so this is extra frustrating. It's just cards but still, I was looking forward to this.

The skirt is obviously adorable and super versatile, I’m going to be able to wear it with a ton of different things in my wardrobe. #3497 ($100+). & #2284 ($50 - $75), I'm really sorry but I have not shipped your gifts yet :( The huge order from my SS containing your main gifts have still not arrived in my country. I did the order already in October when the matches were sent out but there were some setbacks with some items being slow to arrive and then the package getting resent back to my SS from their country's customs. Which in all made me loose ≈ 2-3 weeks. Now it is on it's way to me with EMS which departed 26th of November and I hope the package will show up next week (usually does not takes more 2-3 weeks after it has been delivered to air-service) but then there will be probably a few more days for custom clearance in my country. I have got all the small filler items for your gifts but it feels stupid to send out without the main ones. I got a lot of things that I hope you will like (both your forms were very helpfull!) so I'm really bummed out and anxious over the delay. I'm from the era where they had those "I built my Gundam in XX hours!" commercials advertising Gundam kits and as a teen I never got to get one before they stopped selling them in local stores and Deathscythe Hell was always on my want list. I think I made a totally inhuman noise of delight when I opened the last package and found it.

Also thank you SO much for including a tool kit! I had some of the supplies already like the tweezers from other DIY projects but not anything else so that'll come in handy so much.

I'm also majorly in love with the tshirts. I'm not quite sure that the blue one is (but I dig it!) but I love the Among Us one once I realized what it was. Haha I've even curious to read the yaoi manga you slipped in. The summary definitely is a wild ride. The socks aren't really my preferred cut for personal use but they'd make great nanchatte socks so thank you for those as well, I'd never even known bamboo socks were a thing!

Overall thank you SO much and it seems you went above and beyond to spoil me so I hope one of your Santas spoils you just as much in return.

I got your package and it's amazing, thank you so much! This is my first time participating and I was not expecting it to be this good, and I was definitely not expecting my Santa to be someone I knew IRL! Santa, I just got your package and it is so sweet! The headdresses and head bows are absolutely gorgeous, I thought about the exact dress you wrote in the note for the blue one. Your drawings of my favs and I are super fricken cute, the chonk horse is adorable haha. Thank you so much for all the penguin goodies, you got items I wanted to pick up from daiso!
