If you're at a convention with a sizeable crowd and a big enough gaming room, all you need to do to confirm how bad hygiene can possibly get is to take a brief walk around until the smell becomes overpowering somewhere.

I mean, I feel like it should be common knowledge at this point but Smash scenes in particular are probably always going to be one of if not the worst offenders wherever they're allowed. I can't even pretend they'll ever grow the fuck up and develop some self respect, let alone common decency anymore. Bringing your own controller should be a requirement, except that doesn't even help with their attitudes. I almost expect someone to end up literally shitting themselves at those things now (or worse), so it isn't just about whether or not they forgot to wipe in the first place.

It feels like that should give more people the confidence to be more sociable at most cons, but I guess not.

There was some study or report done by eventbrite showing the average age of attendees being ~30. Sure probably on the 9-5 hours of friday the sub 25 crowd is larger due to not working, saturday it is a huge fucking mix.

Most cons won't survive another year without being able to operate and generate money, not unless the con is well into the black and has money saved up to sit on for a while.

So we'll probably see a massive decrease in the amount of actual cons that go on, probably closer to the early 2000s era don't scene.

People out there really thinking once the vaccine is out and the virus is more under control, that it'll be like this never happened.... When in reality, cons will probably never return to the same way they were before the pandemic. Most cons won't survive and others will be possibly massively scaled back.

What's actually stopping cons from coming back during the summer? The vaccine will have been distributed to first responder/medical care and high risk people by then.

The people who do get it will be much lower risk/asymptomatic, and if it does get bad, they'll actually be able to get medical attention because the hospitals will have lower capacity.

I dunno about cons in the summer, but we're absolutely going to see cons by the fourth quarter of the year.
Actually I'm pretty sure we will see cons in states with less strict covid guidelines (TX, FL, etc.) in the summer.
Then we'll see cons in the more strict states (CA, most of the northeast) a few months later. They're gonna be desperate to get their economies back on track.

SDCC 2021 is already in danger as the newly elected mayor of San Diego extended the use of the convention center as a homeless shelter until the end of March. Not enough time to plan for the con if the venue gets released back to convention hosting use.

Not knowing whether or not the venue will be available isn't going to stop the organizers from planning for the convention.
Some organizers are going to be spending time planning not only for a "normal" convention on their planned dates, but also for contingency plans for dates later in the year, and for running their con at a reduced capacity due to possible restrictions.
With that said, I doubt SDCC 2021 will happen in July. The organizers may very well have already decided to either postpone or cancel the con.

works for me. I gave up cons in 2019 to start a family, just had my little on in October so by 2025 she'll be getting just old enough to be taken to one if we chose to go. That has more to do with the fact that it needs multiple doses to work and people got exposed prior to their second or even first vaccination. The UK is also fucking things up by giving people first and second doses of the vaccines from different companies/manufacturers because of lack of adequate supply, while experts think that they are being retarded for doing so since there has been so research on the efficacy of using doses from different manufacturers at all, plus it may end up causing problems if the people in question don't actually end up properly immunized and behave as if they are.

Cons are coming back because they have to. They could take the loss in 2020 but a lot are doing their best to come back this year.
I have a few scheduled for the next coming months. That's about as many as I was able to go to post-Corona in 2020.
Of course there's a lot less and they have strict limits on how many people can enter but it is happening.
