Is there any taobao dress that made you feel the same "love it!" feeling as brand? If so,reply with it.
I was mighty tempted by Ange Du L'Enfer OP by Unicorn Tears but found about it too late and missed preorders since I never keep up with taobao releases

This is a really lovely OP. The only taobao dress I could think of it nameless poem. It's overdone and pretty much every gothic lolita has it/owned it at one point, but I personally never got around to buying it yet. All the pictures I see of the details on the dress as so gorgeous, I should probably get around to it soon.

I've never seen one I loved as much as brand. Mostly because the quality level is so hit and miss. I rarely buy taobao stuff unless I'm picking it up secondhand for cheap, because so often it's just not worth it. Even my new "bad" AP stuff is nicer than any taobao piece I've owned.

But there's some I like in spite of the quality. FunCcnio has some of my favorite prints. Ragnarok is a stunning series, as is the One Eyed Man one. And Winter Rose is maybe my favorite print of all time, even without the fandom link. Sadly their quality is garbage.

I like Your Highness's designs as well. But I haven't bought any yet because it looks poor quality even in their stock photos so I'm sure irl it's like a fucking Halloween costume. And on the sweeter side of things I love some of Crucis's and Bacio Bouquet's designs. They both have a very cute, quirky style that reminds me a lot of old school without being a straight ripoff of old pieces.

I always end up being disappointed with taobao dresses I fall in love with. I made two preorders, one with lovely pin tucks and the other a beautiful floral classic print, and when they got here, the fabric was just garbage.

I did order Ange Du L'Enfer, and I'm hoping the quality is worth it.

Poly =/= bad quality.

My poly AP dresses are beautifully finished. Fully lined, neat seams, the ribbons and bows are perfect, the lace is nicely ruffled, the hems and pintucks are precise, the buttons are cute, and the prints are detailed and vibrant and packed with details. And while I prefer the look and feel of cotton idgaf if a dress is poly because that just means I don't have to worry about it bleeding, fading, or being a wrinkly mess every time I pull it out of the closet.

The taobao pieces I've owned are total crap in comparison. Some of them aren't even walmart-tier.

AP's construction in all the dresses i own is totally flawless, zero weird seams or puckering.

For AP, a fair amount of cotton pieces, mostly non-print. And of the newer/poly dresses I've got Royal Crown Berry, Guardian Unicorn, Holiday Collection, Rosette Collection, British Keys, Cirque du L'Etoile, Toy Circus, Magical Horoscope, Astro Regimen, Melty Sky, Dreamy Horoscope, Dreamy Planetarium, etc. etc. etc.

Some of the older pieces have more little details to them, like more glitter or pintucks, but for the most part there's not a huge difference and the quality of construction is the same as ever. They're all sturdy without any flaws that I've ever noticed. AP has never been as amazing as Meta, but they've always been consistently good.

For taobao I've owned pieces from Chess Story, Surface Spell, Infanta, FunCcnio, Diamond Honey, Strawberry Witch, Little Dipper, Krad Lanrete, Elpress, ZJStory, Long Ears Sharp Ears, and Classical Puppets. Maybe others I'm forgetting or never knew the name of.

Classical Puppets was pretty good quality, and Krad Lanrete and Infanta were decent, about on par with Baby. The rest were AatP tier at best, and at worst they were Party City tier.

Well it's been in my wardrobe for 5 years now and I'm definitely not disappointed, bearing in mind that it was less than half the price of Royal Library which was going for crazy amounts around that time. I suppose you could call it an IW knockoff, but the fabric choice is very different from Royal Library. The tapestry fabric is fairly heavy, almost like an upholstery fabric, and the velvet is reasonably nice as well with decent construction. The only minor issues were that the front buttons and waist tie buttons were sewn on very loosely.

No not really. I assume JetJ has the rights to it, and if it's art that is free to license, I have no problem with the indie brand (though the design is a bit lazy, and the owner outsources the shoe design to china. It comes across as lazy but I have no problem with it technically. JetJ at least designs the dresses).
I have problems with the rip off the AP cats because I think that is silly to complain about replicas then buy art theft jewellery.

ap does have a trademark on cats in that style but still stop being a retard.
I think there needs to be more talk on the grey areas of small artists and "replicas" bc i think this is fine honestly, but to do a fabric or dress replica is not.

This is my one Taobao dress and I love it. I wear it all the time. It's comfy, versatile, long enough for my tall self, and has (deep!) pockets. The fabric also feels fairly rugged so I'm not afraid of it getting ruined or anything. It's not a type of fabric I've ever had a brand dress be made of. It's got a low pile, almost like if velvet and faux suede had a baby? And it has a bit of stretch to it. Dunno what that fabric is called. I wear the dress without the waist tie belt thing as I find it looks awkward with it on.

The rest of my wardrobe is brand. I did own a Surface Spell dress for a long time (The Nightingale and the Rose embroidery JSK) and it was lovely quality. I must have bought it 6 or 7 years ago? It was a major dream dress for me at the time. I saw it and immediately fell in love with it, and lusted after it for months before finally taking the plunge (I was in my late teens and finishing highschool, so didn't have a lot of money). The embroidery was really well done, and the lace was stunning. However, the green eventually ran into the white part in the wash. I'm not sure what caused it, as I had washed it a number of times prior and it was fine. Maybe I switched detergents or something. I stopped wearing it after that.

I don't think the OP has a vendetta, since I also saw these advertised somewhere the other day and thought they looked too similar to Dream Cat Go Round. At the very least they mentioned the woodcarver's name so we could know where the inspiration came from.

Why does lolita attract so many autists and poorfags? Looking in BSOFL group and I'm just amazed. So many posts from people who obviously buy their clothes at Walmart and then ask how they can get the cheapest coord possible, like you think that it will actually look good? There's really no getting around the fact that fashion (whether it's lolita or not) is an expensive hobby.

It doesn't matter how much of a hugbox FB and reddit become, or how acceptable those communities find Milanoo-tier crap. $40 isn't enough to buy a single fucking used skirt, let alone a dress, shoes, petti, or anything else. The poorfags who are just dipping their toesies into the fashion quickly realize this and most will either give up and leave or else pony up the cash to participate.

Just to note that's a different fabric. A lot of Japanese fabric companies make the same print on quilting cotton for clothes and quilts makers, and then on heavier linen/cotton canvas for the bagmakers. That's why only this dress is in the green version, the other two dresses you see posted above don't come in this green.

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=531703677336

And the heavier linen-cotton canvas fabric:

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=592878283160

(It should also be available on Tomato nippori and rakuten, I just find it easier to run it through taobao's image search. It made by Quiltgate, you can see the maker's brand in one of the taobao photos.)

Taobao is objectively *much* higher quality than AP at this point. I sold my entire AP wardrobe to buy taobao once my friend let me borrow one of her taobao dresses, I realized I could buy higher quality dresses for a fraction of the price. Only a retarded APfag would pass up a deal like that. That knock off CTP was way cuter, the art even had higher resolution and the fabric was twice as good as the real CTP, yet APfags would turn their nose up at it just because the brand name isn't there. I just don't understand, it makes me sad for them knowing they will never know the joys of brand tier quality for a quarter of the price. Say what you want, but until you've actually tried taobao you have no right to knock it. All you're doing is proudly letting everyone know that you're stupid and only like lolita for the flex. It's 2020 and brandwhores are getting phased out, taobao reigns supreme.

I thought it was a catfish so I was like bet. I wanted to see what their end game was and didn’t really feel like talking to a real person. we were talking for a bit and played that number game. one of the question I asked was what her favorite food was since she said she liked to cook. her answer was clam chowder. I thought to myself interesting clam chowder that’s a type of SOUP. It’s too much of a coincidence that jannies have been too nice lately and I get added by this person. Anyways long story short found out she wasn’t a catfish so I ghosted her. It’s been 3 days since I found out so if I get ban we’ll get our answer.

I sold a few items recently and now I’m kinda tempted to shove my whole wardrobe up for sale. Would love any thoughts on this.
My logic is I will be able to replace anything I miss severely with relative ease. I haven’t worn lolita for years and I don’t see the point of keeping this stuff around. At this point I only really hang onto the items because I want to still consider myself a lolita, and the best way to do that is through owning a bunch of dresses. Great. I have probably about 20 main pieces left but I’ll get rid of most of them. I sold a few of my favourites a few weeks back and that’s what made me realise how little I care about any of it. Thoughts on keeping shoes, socks, accessories, blouses, petticoats, etc?
I don’t wear any of this anymore. I’m thinking I should just keep some items to match the main pieces I’m holding on to (or any favourites) and the rest can go. I really don’t want to regret getting rid of anything, socks and shoes are the items I’m most hesitant on for some reason. Petticoats take up a lot of room but I think I should keep them just because they’re such a staple for lolita?

It's too easy to just say you're MS with no experience because you're larping/you want to look like you know shit because of your pride/you're a "lolita at heart."

It's probably impossible for the mods to vet every single user and require some sort of coord post/proof to tag yourself as MS, but it would be nice.

When I first joined BSOLF years ago, I just tagged myself as MS even though I'd never posted a coord and only had a couple of taobao dresses and axes femme blouses hanging in my closet. Because I'd "been in the community for years but just never had a chance to wear a full coord, just casual UwU" Probably shitty of me. You don't actually have experience if you've never worn a full coord head to toe. So I basically just assume about half of the MSs who don't have any lolita featured on their profile are probably LARPers/Lolitas at Heart. LS and MS are the same.

If you're not sweet, I'd go ahead and get rid of any pleather shoes and bags you aren't wearing anyway. They're probably on their way to peeling anyhow, buy new ones when/if you get back in.

If you're into sweet it's slightly more complicated, as the colours/style can be a total bitch to find once they're not trending. If you're going to keep them, at least mark a date on your calendar to check up on them in storage, otherwise you're in for a nasty surprise when you pull them out of storage and they start falling to bits while you're wearing/using them.

Petticoats are always easy to replace because they're such a staple, but if you want to be able to wear your favorite coord anytime, just keep one around so you can easily pull it out and wear it instead of waiting two weeks for it to ship from wherever.

>> No.10493326

It's not my least favorite, but I'd never wear a piece with a bunch of real flags. I'm just not comfortable slapping a bunch of foreign flags all over myself.

I avoid crosses, pentagrams, any other religious symbols for the same reason. If it's not something I believe in it's not going on my dress.

>What's the style you wear most? Sweet, Classic, goth etc.
Sweet, with some old school
> How many dresses did you buy this year?
Zero because I took a year-long buying break due to the 30 I bought in 2019
> What type of head piece do you like most?
Love rectangle headdress the most but I wear Alice bows the most because I don’t have much old school and I don’t like to wear the style of sweet that uses them
> Least favorite print theme?
Memes, Disney characters, fandom stuff. Basically anything that itas always whine about wanting, like corgi butts or whatever goofy thing that they like but is objectively not aesthetic and gets shoehorned on a dress to make girls be like “look at me I’m not like the other girls, I like WEIRD things like pasta sauce”

What's the dress? It might be fine depending on the design. Or you can just take it to a tailor.

>> No.10495236

>>10495234
Depending on the brand and cut, you might be fine. A lot of brand measurements are just the average range - if it has corset lacing on the bodice, you’ll more than likely be able to lace it up tighter than that minimum measurement. Don’t get depressed yet, anon! Just wait and see :)

Holy lantern zipper jsk. I feel like the high-waisted cut would have been more forgiving fit-wise? The waistline of the zipper jsk looks like it hits right at the natural waist.

>>10495236
It doesn't have corset lacing, unfortunately. Thanks for the encouragement!

>>10495237
No, just a petite hourglass. Not even an anachan, I just don't store any fat on my waist.

>>10495246
I mean I probably would have bought it anyway but it was kinda stupid of me not to check ahead of time. All of my other dresses are taobao and I've never had fit issues with them since they're usually available in several sizes. I'll wait and see how it looks on me and then decide whether or not I should get it tailored.

Yeah, uh, too bad anon. I have the same waist measurement as you and had to sell my zipper Holy Lantern because it was way too huge. The way I did make it work beforehand was by wearing corsets/bustiers/etc over it, which is something you could give a try at least. Other than that, at least there's other cuts that would suit you better so you don't have to go without the print.

I'm nervous that nothing I want has been released in months. Hopefully brands are doing okay and survive the pandemic, the IW scare came after years of me not buying their stuff anymore because of the polyester and long lengths

Closet child has literally 800 coats for sale and yet most of my comm wears normie north face jackets or only have one plain lolita jacket to go with everything. Why spend $500 on a coord and then not have a jacket to go with it? You don’t need one in every color, but a few to be able to somewhat match just seems to be such an easy way to take the coord to the next level that most people don’t bother with.

because, while cute, most aren't actually suited for a real winter with negative temperature weather. Once it starts getting below zero I forgo looking cute and dress for warmth. My normie jackets may not look as good but at least I'm actually warm.

So we have really close measurements for waist (I'm 62cm) and I will say it really matters what color and what MTO/release it is.

The first re-release is huge. But I also have a new color MTO released in July that fits me perfectly. Good luck anon, hopefully you luck out with yours.

1. I actually went outside long enough these days
2. I wasn't living in Texas and would only use the jacket for like 3 months out of the year.
It's a shame that they're so cute but it's not worth it in my case, I'd rather buy another dress with that money.

You definitely have to look for a full length cape. It may be worth custom ordering one from taobao or a place lile My Lolita Dress just to get all the measurements right.

Normie coats are kinda weird to wear for meets if you can afford everything else but the anon whining that everyone doesn't have multiple lolita coats is a little silly. Even some normies only have one or two coats for each of the various levels of cold/weather depending on where you live. Expecting people to have a bunch of coats rather than one workhorse that marches your wardrobe is unnecesary

I'd love to have a lolita coat. But I prefer my winter stuff to be good quality wool or leather. afaik that rules out every brand but MM, and their stuff is too narrow in the shoulders for my tall-ass western frame.

I've yet to see evidence of a Lolita coat that can handle regular negative degree weather on a daily basis - for pictures or short occasions sure but we are talking months of below zero temperatures, and when that happens I don't really wear Lolita too much outside of the house so no point in a lolita coat
