So, why do you all wear lolita?
I wear it just because it makes me feel cute, but I know countless people who wear it just because they like the attention it brings in public.

>> No.10482652

>>10482649
I used to have these ~deep philosophical feminist~ reasons when I was just starting to wear lolita but nowadays my one and only reason is that it's cute, I like it and the way I look in lolita. Don't really dig the public attention though, but the positives outweigh the negative for me.

Really? Almost every lolita I know has complained about the unwanted comments they get from normies

It's bait, anon.

I wear it because it makes me feel like the most authentic version of myself, like most sane people use fashion. It helps that (as a classic lolita) I can tone it down or dress it up depending on the situation/company.

>> No.10482663

Agree that it's bait, but I wonder why these sorts of threads keep getting made lately. Is it just guys trying to confirm their suspicions that all women are attention whores or something?

I like the level of detail and craftsmanship. I like that it's something pretty that I can look at wherever I go, not just a piece of decor that stays at home on a shelf and gets dusty. It doesn't make me feel cute (I already feel cute), and I hate the attention.

While there are days I go out in lolita that I'd much prefer not standing out, I do enjoy some of the attention I get from wearing it. I like wearing lolita not because it makes people pay attention to me, but it makes me easy to remember. People who recognize me as "the girl with the big skirt" are more likely to talk to me (most people in my town who actually say something to me other than "nice outfit!" in passing are actually people who have seen me more than once). I've made a few friends this way, and plenty of retail workers know me by name. I'm generally a pretty reserved person and don't really reach out to strangers, so it's unlikely that I would be getting that sort of attention if I were dressed like the average person. And while I do keep to myself for the most part, I am a social person and I like having short, nice conversations with people. Whenever I go to my favorite shops and the staff all ask me how I am, remark at a new piece I'm wearing, or just generally are more personable with me, I thank my fashion.

Luckily I live in a small, safe area. When I go into the city the type of attention I get radically changes (had a guy circle around me while simultaneously trying to get me to give him my number and squatting down to try and see up my skirt), and I don't wear lolita when I know I'll be in the city anymore.

It's pretty, and I love the craftsmanship and artistry that goes into it. Feeling the textiles, studying the patterns, admiring the color theory, searching for acccessories, researching stores, having something different from the normie fashion you're so tired of seeing and hearing about. I feel good wearing it, but if I could be invisible while doing so, that would be great. I wouldn't mind the comments so much if they weren't negative or ignorant.

Not really directed at anyone in particular but...

I have a somewhat toned down robe à la française made out of cotton and the big-ass cage type pannier to go with it; even though I a) wear classic lolita on a daily basis B) have gotten very used to living and moving in big skirts and petticoats etc., dresses/panniers like that just aren't practical for the modern world. Things and spaces aren't made with that kind of garment in mind, unfortunately.

That said, you could probably pretty easily get away with an ankle-length robe à l'anglaise/polonaise with a bum roll instead of a pannier.

I started because I was becoming disenfranchised with cosplay at cons but still wanted to be part of a community, and most cons will have a decent amount of lolitas there. Im also a habitual collector so it sort of just went from there. Mainly because fast fashion and western fashion in general is ugly to me. I was always searching for a more feminine style, pretty dresses that are well contructed with nice detailing. Some luxury things actually have elaborate design that is hard to re-create by your own. These are easy to wear, you aren't forced into dressing feminine. No fucking way you can add some sporty themed stuff into traditional lolita outfit and look good. I don't mean these matching sneakers, because people choose them specifically to work with lolita. You can use different textures like denim, leather, plastic, etc that are hard to wear nicely in lolita.

NTA but, you're really reaching to get offended by this. To the average man, lolita is too modest to be considered sexually attractive. Just look at the 100s of posts from girls who say their boyfriends find it unattractive.
Nobody is saying women who dress less modestly deserve to be harassed, but let's be real, if my tits are out, men are going to look more than if they aren't and some of us are uncomfortable with it.

You probably think most men are pedos and love lolita for the childish aspect. Why is it so hard to comprehend that some women feel vulnerable having their body on display? Lolita literally originated from women who were tired of being sexualized.

I dunno how you read someone's blunt explanation of coping with being de-feminized as childhood abuse and come away with that
I have no idea what forced transvestite-ism would do to a child's developing brain, but dressing to overcompensate as an adult seems pretty par for the course

When did anon imply women aren't like that kek? Its obvious you're a butthurt scrote. Go do what scrotes do best and jerk off to your favorite porno, then you can come back later when you're able to think clearly.

How dare you insult my taste. You fucking beta. I bet your taste is fucking abysmal and all you wear is ageplay looking ass sweet lolita because you need to compensate for your ugly cunt face by smothering it pastel colours. I bet you also can't wear AP pre 2012 because you're not only an ugly fuck, but you're also a fat cunt. I can just picturing you trying to squeeze your fat ass into an OP to then realise your fatty linebacker shoulders are too much for the dress. So don't go talking to me about taste when the most you can fit into is custom sized taobao. Cunt.
