The fact that you can recognize that these wigs look bad means you’ll be fine. No one just starts out automatically knowing how to style a wig nicely, it takes time and practice.

The thing that these people don’t seem to realize is that just because you make a wig, doesn’t mean you have to wear it. The first wig I cut was ugly as hell. Wore it once, saw photos of it, had enough self-awareness to realize it looked awful, and then I chucked the wig. See? We all fuck up at some point. There’s nothing wrong with admitting something you made is ugly and throwing it away. You don’t have to show off something that looks bad on the internet just so you have some new content to post on social media

I think it's because they're trying to mimic the big, teased wigs that some good stylists have made, but they're being lazy and just crimping the hell out of the entire wig to create that volume. IIRC Umbranwitch started the crimping trend. Most good stylists tease instead of using a crimper. Heehee is the first person I can think of who made wigs like this by teasing. The texture's a little rough in the back but she's not frying the hell out of the fibers.

That's great! And I'm sure there is, but your experience is not universal. You don't know how much of that time they spent cosplaying was quality learning time or purchasing costumes and prestyled wigs. Time only equates experience if you are using that time to actually improve. And it sounds like you put a lot of work into your craft. If their wig looks like it does, do you honestly think they've been putting the same amount of quality time and effort?

>> No.10484476

Sure, doesn't mean that they'll be good at it or that their standards for what good looks like will be high. I mean that's fairly obvious with what they deem post-worthy.

>that stuff doesn’t really matter
A person who dedicates their time to learning will accomplish better and faster what someone who doesn't spend time improving even though they've been doing it longer. That's just a simple truth. I was saying so because the fact that they have been cosplaying for years as a minor is irrelevant. Maybe if that had been doing so as an adult with access to more tools/supplies/money it would be a different story, but you're basically working with crumbs as a minor unless you have parents with a lot of disposable income and their approval.

Not excusing the shitty tackiness but I think one big factor in all of this is wig quality.
If your wig is cheapshit and trash from the get-go you might need even more money to buy
>some synthetic fiber softener
>detangle spray
>serum
>combs
>pins
>styling products and tools
etcetera and waste all your time and effort making it presentable which is where a lot of zoomers with 0 experience go wrong.
A lot of younger poorfags seem to think "it's better to buy a cheap wig and salvage it with my household products!" when in reality it can turn out more expensive and worse than buying a premade costier one.

Maybe with their longer length wigs. But their shorter ones for spiking and styling hasn’t lost its quality or thickness. And their prices are not that much different then most other places with the same weft amounts and fiber quality. The only wigs I have had issues with shedding are the ones in the discontinued and sale sections. There’s reasons they are put there. Their lace fronts are a bit over priced for the lace they use. It’s rough and scratchy but not unbareable. Five wits is like lower quality arda but are still just as nice. I am not expecting a 200-800 dollar wig quality you would get at a actual daily wear wig shop. But quality wise it’s remained the same even though they are now using a different type of fiber. It works the same as the old fiber. Just got to know how to work with wigs apparently.

That might be because they style them on wig heads that are usually not the same features as the wearers actual face to scale it. Also wig heads tend to be smaller in size so it looks good on the form. Then all dumb and wonky on the actual person. It’s why it’s best to get a wig block in your heads circumstance and then mark where your features are on it so you can scale it. it's because of the bullshit "feel good about myself" shit that has been pushed so hard the last 6 years. Cosplay has become less looking like the character and either being a ethot or rolling around in your closet and saying you're the character in whatever sticks to you.
Tumblr really fucked cosplaying over with their shit as well.

I don't wanna shit on it too much because it's mostly minors who do it, so I'm just using this as an example of what I mean, but really, everyone just wants to make their wigs as unique as possible, and that's usually fine if it's like, an additional bow, or something like that that really feels like something the character would use and makes sense for the setting, but too many people go overboard and stick whatever they want, like this is supposed to be Madoka. It's also fucking hilarious, I don't remember the name right now, but the original "creator" of the glitter wig idea threw a fit over people doing it too, claiming they were taking something that expressed themself and that they put so much work into it that it made them want to quit cosplaying.

Genderswap is done wrong a good 75% of the time because it's usually skimpy or add a beard, or they completely change the outfit from looking like the original character instead of changing pants to a skirt or simple stuff like that to gender bend it. AU ones are horrible 90% of the time, biker Sailor Moon groups were old after the first group did it. No one needs to do a coffee shop au outfit for ____ series, it's not cute or well thought out.
Cosplay is supposed to be fun, not "I'm working out why dad doesn't talk to me and mom won't look at me while in a costume" You dress up to have fun. Not deal with your mental illness.
