What has been your alternative fashion, cosplay, or craft/accessory/merchandise buying or selling experience with Depop?
What's your strategy?
>Do you look for certain base pieces to fill out your wardrobe or are you able to find statement pieces (I am especially curious about this one for lolitas coming from a non-lolita perspective)
>Do you use certain keywords to find what you're looking for and if so, what are they?
Is there a better app or website out there that you use?

>> No.10445698

I bought a cute bolero on there but it was too big. I tried selling it for cheaper and no luck.

>> No.10445701

Ive used Depop (but I haven't bought from anyone on it) it seems pretty bad for lolitas since there's a bunch of replicas and people spamming Lolita tags on non-lolita items. Lots of people on Depop seem to just buy something from a thrift store and sell it for double the original price

>> No.10445705

I've sold about a dozen J-fashion items on depop. Never had a problem. It's a decent alternative to ebay I guess. If you're selling stuff on kei market I would suggest considering depop even though the fees are higher.

>> No.10445709

I usually use depop for non-lolita jfashion since kei market is pretty dead and there isn’t really another good alternative. I’ve sold a lot of general jfashion items on depop but I always have better luck selling lolita on lacemarket.

God depop is so weird for lolita. I've purchased two items from it but the community is so bizarre. After wading through all the dumb "ISO" spam posts its so hard to get sellers to respond. I found a dress listing I wanted but it had no shipping listed. I asked the seller how much the shipping would be, and she responded saying she would check the next day. Fast forward to two weeks later with no response. I message her again saying I'm still interested and still no response almost a week later. And it feels like thats how it always goes when I try to reach out to the sellers on there. Guess they don't want my money.

Oof, I know that pain. I bought a limited run collaboration pair of pants once, only to find out that they had zero stretch. I could only wear them if I didn't breathe out or sit down. By the time I tried to buy a new pair on the original website, they were gone. And unfortunately everyone else had the same problem so the only pairs available secondhand are the same size I bought or smaller. They were perfect too, so tragic.

I have noticed a lot of tag spamming or just flat out incorrect tags. That's kind of why I made this thread because I was wondering if there's a better way to use it. Happy to see it isn't just me.

>Lots of people on Depop seem to just buy something from a thrift store and sell it for double the original price
God that ruffles my petti. I've seen so many blatantly Shein/Ali resales too for double the price. Dirty clothes and shoes for upwards of $30 really makes me want to delete the app altogether.

That's what I was hoping to accomplish by downloading the app too. I'm hoping to really transition from normie to alt fashion by slowing building up pieces, but as the thread implies navigating the app has been kind of difficult. I guess at the very least it's good for purging my old closet.

>> No.10445761

One thing I do wish was more common on Depop would be for people to post the size measurements for their clothes. Letter sizing is useless to me unless I hunt down the brand's size guide which I honestly don't want to have to do for every listing I'm interested in.

Once I scored a NWT wonder cookie full set for $40 from a clueless normie. I wouldn't say that's a super common occurrence but it does happen (though you have to be quick to snatch up deals!).

The only way to make it more popular is for us to actually use it. We can’t complain about jfash sales being better on apps with high selling fees like Depop and Mercari when we’re not even giving kei market a chance.

>> No.10446288

I’ve had success with selling other jfashion items on Depop. There’s always the chance some normie will pick it up as a novelty item. I’m not a lolita so I can’t really speak for the experience, but I personally would never sell lolita items on there with how diluted the “lolita” tag is, not to mention the creeps. Just sell your burando on lace market.

>> No.10446315

depop is how I get my spending money, since I use the money from my real job to pay bills and deposit the rest into savings. I actually make a killing selling handmade normie accessories
as far as Jfash goes, try searching using whatever brand you want + "egl" and it'll reduce tag spam. normies know what "lolita" is but not egl. and if you're searching for baby deffo use "btssb" instead of typing out the full name or else you'll get fetish shit. I've had good luck with blouses and one brand jsk for under $90 in fantastic condition! I think everyone skipped over it because the photos were shit

Poshmark is WAY worse than Depop. Poshmark has more lowballers and tag spammers, is populated with entitled Karens (their target market), and UI is complete garbage to boot. The selling fee is also double Depop's fee.
I tried selling on Posh years before Depop became popular and it was hell. Posh has a return policy where they can return an item for any reason as long as Posh deems it reasonable, so I've had shit like earrings and keychains returned for "incorrect size listed" and Posh would always side with the buyer. Also, Posh holds onto your money and you have to manually send in a request to cash out your earnings instead of it being automatically sent to your PayPal like on Depop.

Interestingly, Secret Honey's Disney collab dresses sell EXTREMELY well on Posh due to all of the Disney-obsessed wine moms on the platform. You can overcharge like hell and it will sell quickly anyways. I've seen the Secret Honey Rapunzel dress go for $600+.

Pros:
-personal suggestions, your item can be suggested to others that might want to buy it, even when you dont use tags! So Im guessing the algorithm is pretty smart.
-Lots of traffic
-Ease of payment (no sending invoice, no waiting for payment since you have to pay to checkout)
-I actually enjoy the IG-like way it looks, and its nice to see the creativity of sellers
-You find really cheap stuff sometimes!!
-You help the environment and other humans / small businesses!

Cons:
-Fees are horrible, 10% of your transaction, INCLUDING SHIPPING FOR SOME REASON???
- People message you to ask for discounts a lot.
-I hate the 10% fee
- The app glitches a lot.

People on Depop do this all the time. They’ll list damaged items for a super high price and try to avoid taking pictures of the damage. She doesn't respond to the claim, and because of that paypal automatically ruled in my favor. I get my money back and forget about the whole thing, and then a week later the dress shows up on my door.
