reposting here since it was posted at the end of the last thread. is anyone familiar with brands (or even individual pieces) that are similar to atelier boz in style? asymmetrical hems, works with mostly black and deep reds, a more mature look, etc. i've only found one taobao brand that does a similar style, but i'm hoping some more seasoned lolitas know of some others.

>>10445203
You might want to look into Sheglit and Miho Matsuda. How similar Shegit and Boz are in style depends on the seasonal releases, but Sheglit tends to be more mature, with a good amount of asymmetric hems. The color palette of their releases changes depending on the season, but they have red and dark red pieces now and then. I would recommend looking at the Coordinate page on their online store, and seeing if anything catches your eye. They do a lot of layering with corsets and overskirts and vests and the like.

I'm not as familiar with Miho Matsuda, but if you like the more military style of Boz, Miho Matsuda makes nice vests and vest-dresses, and they release things in red as well. Though it's a much brighter red than Boz's, which tends to be quite dark and more purple-red.

>>10445406
Usually when a dress needs to be altered they take the waist ties, take those apart, and use the material from that. That allows you to get a couple inches on either side, as far as the bodice goes. For really tiny alteration you could always let out the seam allowance.

For skirts, you can sew two skirts together, or, you can open it up in the back and add a ruffle underneath so it ends up being a bustle skirt. That way it'll fit a larger waist without sacrificing any volume.

If you don't have waist ties on a dress, you can try and find a fabric with a similar pattern and colour, but of course, the closer the material to your dress, the more subtle the alteration (and therefore it will look better). Always take your dress to an experienced seamstress. Don't just take it to a rando friend who's crafty, or the nice lady who hems pants at the laundromat and not much else. Take it to someone who knows what they're doing. Someone that does bridal alterations might be a good place to start.

ymmv though. It really depends a lot on what wardrobe, what dress, the climate, etc.

The cut that does not interfere with most jsk necklines and (mini) sleeves/shoulder straps is the high neck, long-sleeved blouse. However, if you live somewhere warm it can be annoying, and if you pair it with crew socks it'll look unbalanced because the top half looks unbalanced and the bottom half looks so bare. In that case you're better off with a more open neckline and shorter sleeves, or a cutsew blouse instead.

For the other details: Pick an obviously lolita blouse that has details in front (so it doesn't look too normie) and has ruffles on the waist (covers elastic waist skirts). Princess seams with waist ties to tighten them is the most flattering for skirts, you can always tuck in blouses, but if it also looks good untucked over the skirt then it gives you additional coord options.

For the material, stick to something opaque (in case you want skirts), isn't obviously stiff cotton (jarring with polyester dresses), isn't obviously shiny satin (jarring with everything), and drapes well. It doesn't need to be polyester -- cotton lawn, poplin, etc will also do the trick. In case of skirts, also get a cami in your skintone to wear underneath.

Nah, I kind of get them. I mean, I started my fashion hobby saving $100 for six months to get a taobao dress, but I also bought shoes, socks, petticoat and stuff for another ~$150 or so, totalling ~$250 for my first coord.

So if they're saving $100 every 6 months, it'll take them 1-1.5 years for their first (low grade) coord. Then after that it's one dress every 6-10 months, blouses and shoes another 6-10 months. Maybe they get a new outfit once every 1-1.5 years, after being a lolita for 3-5 years they'll have a tiny capsule wardrobe of maybe 3 dresses and a skirt.

I mean, if they want to, it's not my problem, maybe they're juggling another expensive hobby on the side or they just aren't into lolita anyway. It's just kinda slow and there's probably more active hobbies you can pick up rather than a hobby where you save $100 and get a new outfit once a year.

It actually would take me six months because of shipping and fees, I calculated the final price would be around 180 for the 120 shoes and usually I spare 30$ monthly for lolita because this is the amount I can comfortably pay right now, there was a time I was making some extra money and could spend double and that’s when I bought some secondhand brand. I’m a skilled seamstress and was so before of lolita, also don’t really care about prints. Handmade can take you far when you know what you are doing, I’ve already done a pleated skirt with a nice cotton fabric and lace that were on sale and it ended costing me around 11$, interlining and zipper included, that was probably my cheapest piece ever and only took me 3 days to finish so not a lot of work, even with taobao I couldn’t dream of having a mainpiece this cheap. I understand I’m on very specific conditions so it could be very frustrating for someone who don’t know how to make their own stuff or prefer prints over solids but at the spare of 4 years on the fashion I’ve managed to have 13 main pieces being 4 brand, 3 bodyline and 6 handmade besides accessories, blouses, socks and shoes. it isn’t a lot, but I’m satisfied with were I got so far spending so little. It ends up being a pain to get stuff I can’t make myself such as shoes, but at the end it’s very fulfilling for me. My point is, I probably shouldn’t have started to talk about my financial struggle in the first place knowing gulls tend to go wild on poorlitas, but we don’t know which are the conditions of anons who are replying here, hearing that a fashion you’ve been wearing for 4 years is not for you is a little bit weird.

Like, western brands specifically? Because I usually keep my eye on MAXICIMAM, Baby and Meta for new “old school” releases. If you have swallowed some nonsense about how you won’t fit brand, all three make plus size. Especially MAM.

I have several pairs of tea parties that are mainly off brand (one pair of AP ones) that are peeling. I feel bad for throwing them in the trash or into the donation bin. Is there a way to fix them or at least seal in the cracks from flaking further? Or should I give up and get rid of them? I see people selling their damaged shoes on LM and while I don’t necessarily find it tasteful to sell one pair of damaged shoes for $40, but perhaps 4 pairs for $40 would be less cringe?

>> No.10446698

>>10446339

It isn't always old and ugly. Sometimes it's just unpopular. AP had several lucky packs that had Twinkle Sky, Astro Regimen, Cameo Window, and one time they did a LP of Sweet Cream House, but you can't chose the cut and colour. IW has done a similar LP-only rose-print dress, Meta has done the reverse where you know the cut but not the print.

Some brands are solid, and if you have followed the brand and looked through the sales, you can sort of guess what will end up in the LPs, if it isn't something you hate, then the lower prices can be tempting, such as the recent Moitie LPs.

Some girls like the "ugly, unpopular" stuff anyways, I mean, to normies we already like the "weird, unpopular" stuff, is it really that odd some of us like the "weirder, unpopular-er" stuff?

And for some other girls, it's a challenge to see what arrives in your lucky pack and then try to coord with it. Sometimes you get things that are something you won't pay full price for, but once it's in your hands it's like the best purchase that fell into your hands.

Lots of reasons to buy lucky packs. Well, aside from the prices being low for brand new brand.

You can look up sofa or car seat leather repairs -- people are way more loath to throw out their car seats/sofas than shoes. There's leather repair kits for those, but it can be a total pain to mix the right colours to fix your shoes. I've also seen some folks try to glue back the portion that's starting to flake, or just straight up covering the whole shoe in modge podge. I don't know how well it works though.

Shoes are meant to wear out anyway. The part under your feet tends to weaken and fall apart, the bottom of the shoes wears away from friction against the pavement. Traditional, high quality shoes can be taken to the cobbler and you can have them resoled or the colour fixed or whatever. But pleather is mainly intended to be disposable and thrown out.

My local donation place will accept clothes, even torn and worn out, but not shoes. So I think that says something about how reuseable even normal shoes are. I mean, if you want to sell on some shoes you might as well try, but I don't really know if people want them. Maybe for the extra decorations on the shoes? idk.

The main issue will be the tops of the OTKs. There's usually a section of much stronger elastic that's holding up the tights -- for pantyhose tights it'll be at the waistband, for OTKs made from tights material, the top of the OTKs do have a section with much tighter, stronger elastic.

So basically, if you cut them off midway, without the stronger elastic, the tights material is likely to roll down and not stay up. You're going to need to add some additional elastic or something to hold them up, and tights materials aren't the easiest to sew with.

The other issue, naturally, is how neat you can make it look. If they're OTKs there's usually a pretty high chance of seeing the tops of the socks, "socks" with jagged edge tops and clumsy needle stitches aren't the most kawaii look for lolita.

Some of the tall girls have mentioned that they turn the tights into thigh-highs, after cutting the tights up into two seperate legs they use suspenders/sock holders to keep them up, which takes care of the elastic holding up the socks, and being thigh highs it's also less obvious if the top of the "socks" are less than perfect.

If you're short enough not to need it though, I'd personally just stick with wearing the tights rather than fiddle with turning them into OTKs.

Just practically speaking, you should just find a shape and style that suits your face best. Some people's faces look rounder with round glasses, some people have long faces that don't suit flat glasses. Some people prefer frameless so it'll show their eye makeup better.

Then just pick a frame that matches (most of) your coords. It's nice to have glasses with small details but usually it's not visible in photos anyway, so just having matching colour frames is good enough.

Unless we're talking "fashion" glasses, in which case just pick whichever matches your coord the same way you pick matching jewellery.

CGL is very slow, so it’s not a super satisfying way to join the community. You don’t HAVE to interact with lolitas in any other way if you don’t want to, but given how angry everyone here is it might skew your perception of what other lolitas are like if you ever do feel the urge to join a comm or something. For clothes shopping, I would recommend closetchild. They are fairly cheap, reliable and the items are usually in better condition than listed. Buying secondhand from places like Lacemarket is another option, just make sure the seller has a good rating first so you’re not disappointed.

CGL is the best resource I have found so far if you're looking for information. Take a look at all the generals and the spreadsheets linked in their first/second posts, they're goldmines for beginners.

That being said, >>10448022 has a point. Look up Facebook groups aimed at beginners, there's a few mentoring groups out there with lots of active members.
Also look for general Facebook groups if you want. For CGL and groups like Rufflechat/Closet of Frills, I'd recommend lurking a lot before you start joining discussions, let alone make new posts/threads.
Especially CGL has a lot of information to offer because people don't hold back with their opinions, so you can gain a lot of insight. I definitely prefer it over non-anonymous groups which tend to be overly supportive and coddling for the sake of being non-offensive. There's also a broader range of topics on 4chan, even though it's a slow board. That being said, don't take it anything too seriously. 4chan will be 4chan.

You'll stumble upon a few Discord groups here and there, too, but idk anything about those.

I'm not really going for old school but I feel like it looks wrong to wear shiny poly fabrics with more traditional cotton/velveteen/etc--is that all in my head? Anon, this is every base color. Maybe try picking one or two to focus on so you can build up a variety of blouses and cuts in that color

>Lustrous fabrics
This is just my opinion, but I think mixing lustrous with flat fabrics is fine, as long as the weight is “logical.” Example, a cotton blouse under velvet looks good, but chiffon under velvet is a little weird. Chiffon under cotton is fine but cotton under chiffon is a bit like... why? Basically I think the blouse should be slightly lighter weight than the jsk but not too much. Again, that’s just my onion.

>My blouses are plain with long sleeves & necklines
Well, first I’d try jewelry to dress up coords with those plain blouses. Then I would go look at all your favorite coords and see what blouses they have. Buy ones that look similar.

You probably could use a binder, since they work a lot better when you're trying to squish down fat. Try the shapewear types since you don't want to get a boobloaf.

i bought a liz lisa skirt second hand and it came in a pizza box, and a pepperoni box at that. my family freaked out when they saw it (they are muzzies)
pic very related
not sure if i should find it funny or be really upset

No idea what a muzzie is, but that's pretty gross. I'd give negative or neutral feedback for that.

This should go in the Buyer/Seller Fuckery thread because jesus christ...

I would be pretty angry. It makes for a good story later, but even shipping in a taped up garbage bag is better than a pizza box.

First, yeah this is a coat. I don’t know now what you think “JSK” stands for, but they are basically dresses without sleeves.

Second, if you are buying this for lolita I’m pretty sure this is a coat for a gyaru adjacent style and it won’t fit a petticoat

Check out some gyaru substyles

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knew if AP is re-releasing their Bunny Sailor blouses anytime soon?
Or if there are any seamstresses that can make something similar for me to match my Ice Cream Parlor JSK? I would ask Glittertale, but I'm not quite sure how much of a good job they could do.
