the first is traditional lolita. This style consist of cute, girlish dresses made from plain, natural toned fabric and lace. Traditional lolita is the old school style worn by Kyoko Fukada in the movie Kamikaze girls. It places a lot of emphasis on basic colors, lace and ribbons to achieve that sweet, feminine look. Even though patterned fabrics are all the rage, vintage dresses like these, with natural cloth and lots of lace are timeless and have never gone out of style.

I like the term traditional lolita when it's being used to refer to coordinates like the one you just posted. It makes sense, it's traditional styling but can include any modern dress. Even NEW brand could be styled traditionally with a simple white blouse/sock and plain matching shoe.
Old school can encompass traditional style because that existed back then too, but also would include the quintessential mismatching street style. Old school is an era not a substyle after all.
>I get what they're going for with the whole "prototype-old school" thing but it just sounds a tad obsessive to label old school in such specific terminology. Pre-old school sounds better imo, it gets the point across.

All I'm saying, is pic related is a traditionally styled lolita coordinate. It also just so happens to be old school because it's an old baby design.

>1)Why do you love old school lolita?
It embodies lolita fashion to me. It's incredibly girly and dolly but can also have just enough edge to it to have that dark or gothic look (obviously this doesn't apply to sweeter coords, but still).
>2)do you like Kamikaze girls movie? why/ why not?
I love it. It's a really fun movie if I am being honest I probably would have enjoyed this movie even if it wasn't based around a lolita. I'm a sucker for unlikely friendships and shenanigans that follow.
>3)do you prefer buying old pieces, new ones or making your own?
I prefer buying older pieces, but I do also like newer ones since I tend to just buy what I like opposed to buying things specifically because they are a certain substyle. I'd love to make my own, but I don't know how/where to start and whenever I try to figure out how I get too intimated by small basics.
>4)if you have a dream dress that won't fit you, would you still buy it?
Not if I can't work out/lose enough weight to fit into it comfortably. And I don't know how to alter things and I don't know anyone reliable enough to properly alter things to another size so I wouldn't risk it.
>5)have you ever tried recreating old street snaps?
When I was a young teenage weeb. As you can imagine, it did not go well.
>6) what is your go-to make up?
Very simple. Skin tint, eyeliner, mascara, blush, eyebrow gel, and darker berry colored lipsticks.
>7)what is your favourite hair style for your old school coords?
Ringlets or anything with big curls.

That’s not even the same dress, film version had modified sleeves. It’s just a dress that looks good in a full set. I doubt everyone wants to skinwalk Momoko when there were multiple people either hunting for blackxblack version or asking how to dye.

>> No.10438311

>>10438309
It is still the same dress, the movie has promotional elements and lets not forget the amount of photos of people 1:1 posing as scenes out of the film in the same coords.
>when there were multiple people either hunting for blackxblack version or asking how to dye.
There was one anon asking for that in a thread about 2 years ago. I get that you might have not been around for the film hype, but c'mon.

>1)Why do you love old school lolita?
My original exposure to Lolita was old school snaps and btssb ads so it imprinted on my fashion preferences. That and because it’s a lot more wearable for every day stuff than many modern styled pieces.
>2)do you like Kamikaze girls movie? why/ why not?
Yeah, it’s one of my favorite movies despite it not being very good. My best friend and I are quite a bit like momoko and ichiko so it holds a special place in my heart.
>3)do you prefer buying old pieces, new ones or making your own?
I’ve always been very frugal so I’ve only bought one new dress, though I’m commissioning a friend who is in college for costuming to make a skirt for me as soon as fabric stores open up again.
>4)if you have a dream dress that won't fit you, would you still buy it?
Yes, it’s my dream dress and I’m going to be the last owner save if something happens to me so to be squeamish about sending it in to be altered seems dumb.
>5)have you ever tried recreating old street snaps?
No, I’m often too embarrassed to take pictures of my coords at all.
>6) what is your go-to make up?
Abh’s brow pomade, any liquid winged eyeliner, mascara, some concealer if needed. If I’m feeling fancier I’ll bother with blush but it’s not really necessary.
>7)what is your favourite hair style for your old school coords?
Brushed out rag curls, it really gives that finishing touch.

>Why do you love old school lolita?
I love the ethereal, eerie vibe. When I see girl wearing layers of lace, hidden almost completely behind them, my heart is beating faster.
>do you like Kamikaze girls movie? why/ why not?
No, except for few scenes
>do you prefer buying old pieces, new ones or making your own?
I prefer buying old pieces, cause it's like a magic, when you touch clothes almost as old as you. Also it's much cheaper than new ones. I would like to sew my own dresses but I can't even fix a button.
>if you have a dream dress that won't fit you, would you still buy it?
Yes, and I would try to alter it if possible. I am not a fatty, but being 5'7'' doesn't help.
>have you ever tried recreating old street snaps?
I have never recreated 100% but I did inspired coords
>what is your go-to make up?
luminizer, peach eyeshadow, mascara for top and bottom lashes and lip gloss over red, sometimes gradient lips
>what is your favourite hair style for your old school coords?
Curled hair or teased twin tails.

1) variety of reasons. it's easier to pass off as vintage so normies don't bug you as much, and i honestly just like how it looks
2) feel free to put a curse on me for this, but i haven't seen the movie all the way through. i'm not a movie person. I'd definitely like to watch it sometime though.
3) if i could make my own that would be awesome but i'm horrible at sewing. i buy used, mostly at swap meets because it's better for the environment. i can rarely afford to buy new, nor are there many new releases i like enough.
4) if it was dirt cheap i'd consider it, but prob no
5) i wish
6) brown eyebrows lightly filled in, shimmery peach eyeshadow, mascara and sometimes natural looking falsies, peach sparkly lipstick, chloe perfume
7) i have shitty thin short hair so i can't style it much, i just put it in low pigtails or use curlers overnight

>1)Why do you love old school lolita?
It feels more like fashion than costume princess clothes like contemporary lolita did when I tried it out. I don't feel like I need a special occasion for it and it's comfortable, physically and mentally.

>2)do you like Kamikaze girls movie? why/ why not?
It's fine I guess.

>3)do you prefer buying old pieces, new ones or making your own?
Buying for sure, but I like making accessories and stuffed animals. I feel so accomplished when I find a super old piece!

>4)if you have a dream dress that won't fit you, would you still buy it?
Yes, assuming the measurements aren't too far off. I'm a little chubby, could use the inspiration to lose a few.

5)have you ever tried recreating old street snaps?
Only with outfits, not composition.

6) what is your go-to make up?
Currently adjusting my routine, but at the moment it's concealer applied where needed, mono-toned neutral eyeshadow, and blush. I think my blush is a bit strong so experimenting with that. Oh, and before rona a neutral gloss or lipstain!

7)what is your favourite hair style for your old school coords?
I usually leave it down and messy. I have a ringlet wig but it's mostly for photos, I dislike wearing wigs casually.

1)Why do you love old school lolita?
The construction/materials (like pintucks and patterns in lace) are the focal point as opposed to how detailed a print can be
2)do you like Kamikaze girls movie? why/ why not?
I love Kamikaze Girls, I haven't seen the movie in a few years but I own the paperback and skimmed through it like last week. I love Momoko. She's a terrible person and I love her
3)do you prefer buying old pieces, new ones or making your own?
Buying old or making. I recently made a skirt with an Otome No Sewing pattern and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
4)if you have a dream dress that won't fit you, would you still buy it?
I don't get attached to pieces if they're out of my size range, but if it's a like 1-2cm difference and a good price, I might buy it and get it altered.
5)have you ever tried recreating old street snaps?
Nah. Not interested
6) what is your go-to make up?
Foundation, light pink blush, brown/pink eyeshadow, maybe lip gloss. I'm terrible at makeup so I go as simple as possible.
7)what is your favourite hair style for your old school coords?
Hime cut, high pigtails, twin braids.
