What was your first lolita coord/item/main piece? Do you have any stories regarding it? For me, it was pic rel in the red colorway and some other bodyline items

Pancake OP in black. I remember reading fyeahlolita's bodyline guide for beginners and really liking it. It's lightweight and comfortable so I still wear it time to time (especially as it gets warmer)

mine was pic related in white, im pretty sure i was convinced i could make my whole wardrobe shiro with gold accents. i never ended up finishing my "first" coord or even wearing it for more than trying it on, but like 4 years later i got my first brand main piece (daydream carnival memorial jsk)

Bought this IW OP for crazy cheap. I’m just above average height for a westerner so I didn’t think I’d worry about length in lolita and never thought to check the length on it. I got the dress and it fit like a glove, except it barely covered my ass. I never built a coord for it and just stared sadly at it in my closet until I sold it a year and a half later. Now I always check the length on everything.

Sweet Cream in mint. I remember seeing it online and then one of my friends happened to be selling theirs so I bought it. I still kept it during my three-year break from lolita but I recently parted with it. It was bittersweet but I saw it as an improvement since I can afford brand nowadays.

White Rabbit Salopette from Alice and the Pirates. My sister had been a lolita for awhile and I had only found out about ouji more recently. This was one of the first pieces I saw and really wanted. Baby/Alice attended our local con, I saw it in person, and that pretty much cemented it for me. Now I do egl with my sisters.

Fancy Box Switching JSK in navy or Fancy Paper Dolls Tiered JSK in pink, I forgot which arrived first. I ended up selling both (Fancy Box didn’t have a matching bow and I am a basic bitch) but after feeling regret I found both again in the same colors and managed to snag a cheap Fancy Box bow on Yahoo Auctions. Ended up selling Fancy Paper Dolls again but kept Fancy Box and bought another set in ivory. Even though I’m more of a classic lolita nowadays, it’s probably my favorite dress.

Magic Princess Napoleon JSK.

I started straight out the gate as a brand-whore. This dress solidified my love of cotton and glitter prints. I bought it directly from AP USA and I remember the shop girls drew a cute picture for me on my order invoice. I can't believe it was in stock for weeks at that time, given the current state of AP. I think this print would sell out in seconds today.

At the time I didn't care about the headbow or the OTKs. I actually got them recently. I found the headbow in a CC in Japan last year and was proud of myself for asking in (probably my best) Japanese if they could sell me the headbow only (it was attached to a JSK as a set). And they said yes! Then recently, amid COVID, I finally got the matching OTKs. So, three years later, my set is now complete.

For some reason, i thought that every Lolita sew their dresses and also that lolitas only wear OPs (no skirts or jsk).
So, i ordered my first lolita dress in a normie sewing salon. It was made out of satin left side up (still shiny) and was mid-calf length.

This Le Miroir taobao dress in the grey/blue color, just because I love birds and despite all the horror stories I'd heard, I didn't think the quality could be /that bad/ but boy did they did prove me wrong.

I still love the print, I wish they'd redo this with better materials.

My first piece was custom made too. I wanted to wear lolita for my prom and I went about it way too late. I was really happy about the results though. I commissioned a skirt and a matching cape. I chose the material myself, and I went for the most sturdy and non-shiny one, so it ended up being the same material that is supposedly used for German military uniforms. I like wearing it casually because it’s nearly indestructible.

It’s sad that I don’t remember specifically which dress was my first but this was the first dress I ever wore to a meet 6 years ago. Around that time I also had 2 Bodyline dresses, one solid black OP with ribbons and big chonky pleats at the bottom and the sweet cream JSK. It’s also possible my first was another old school BABY piece that I didn’t wear to that meet since it was winter. I have both of the BABY pieces but I sold the Bodyline ones long ago.

This blouse, straight from the AP Japan web shop. I was always a brand-whore. Never bothered with Bodyline, etc.

I was a weeb fresh out of high school with no credit card so I remember going to this shady cash loans place to buy a prepaid card. I don't remember why I couldn't just link my bank to a paypal account. I used a shopping service called Crescent Shop - does anyone remember it?

Like the true ita I was I paired it with normie skirts until I bought the matching skirt a while later. I chose it because the sailor collar reminded me of Sailor Moon.

I actually won my first lolita skirt in an eglcommunity raffle in like 2009/2010. I totally forget who made it and I don't have a picture, but it was a very pretty handmade velvet gothic skirt with Moitié blue chandeliers embroidered on it. I paired it with a blouse from HMHM and a couple of other Taobao brand accessories. It was beautiful but I eventually ended up selling it. Kinda regret it now, but I hope that the girl I sold it to took good care of it.

The first piece that I actually bought was this Innocent World Pleated Flare JSK (which I have also since sold). It was like 2500 yen on Yahoo Japan Auctions, I begged my mom to let me buy it. I was a flat-chested 16-year-old and it was too big in the bust/armpits so I ended up having to go to a seamstress to get it altered. If I saw it come up for sale again I'd probably buy it, honestly.

My first dress was this Infanta OP, but in dark green. I bought it second hand for $70 at a convention and thus jumpstarted my journey into lolita. I still love the dress a lot and wear it today.

Also, I do know it is a generic fabric and one day I'd like to get a hold of some. I saw it on taobao a very long time ago but lost the link, so if anyone happens to have seen it around, let me know.

This fanplusfriend skirt was my first Lolita piece. It was super shiny, though, and I didn’t wear it more than about 5 or 6 times because after I was able to get some better pieces I realized just how bad it was.it was such a slick fabric that it had a bad tendency to fall down a bit if I walked around too much. My first coord shot taken At a meet up was of me in this skirt and I was WILTED.

My first coord, bought all at once at Baby SF as a teen by a very kind relative, who I miss dearly. Shoes were from Antaina.

Pic related was my first dress, I was so fucking excited when it arrived.
I tried my best to do some research beforehand but obviously my first coord was still pretty garbage with stuff I thought would work for lolita just because I didn't know any better. Shoehorning in black and a normie belt and everything.
I'm happy that my first ever dress was sturdy cotton, though. It made me mindful of good fabric from the start, and nowadays I can make lots of coords with it even if it's not 100% my style anymore.

My first dress was handmade by me. It was heavily inspired by Mary Madalene but had a cupcake silouette instead of A-line. I used way more fabric that was actually needed, it was quilting cotton and those ruffles were nearly impossible to iron.

Some terrible F+F replica similar to pic related. I thought it was a good idea to use pictures in this dress to register to some gothic dating website but it all went horribly wrong. My profile instantly received a lot of hits and I was even featured under the popular section on the front page for the next few days. I hated seing myself there everytime I was logging in and being swarmed by messages of disgusting creepy dudes. I think my profile lasted a month before I decided to delete it.
