So, accurate cosplay is now considered racist. What the fuck is happening to cosplaying? Why the fuck are people who never read the original material calling this racist in the first place?

The cosplayer looks more orange than the actress

>>10391778
mte. The girl was sponsored by some basic bitch shit-tier cosplay costume store. Also the hairline on the wig is really not great. If it's lace front she needs to clean up the hairline. If it's not she should already know to buy lacefront.

Everything about this screams fake controversy to boost low tier costhot’s popularity amongst incels. I’ve never once seen a decent white starfire cosplayer been called out for racism. But sure, SJWs be crazy or whatever click this bait please

>> No.10391788

>>10391786

This is so weird even for me as a black person because starfire is that "exotic" racially ambiguous alien color with somewhat ethnic features, but the new version of her in "Titans" looks...bad. You can have a well-styled black starfire but they went way off model with even the hair color and style. The show itself is also tryhard edgy like a lot of live action DC.

Yeah, I was super disappointed in how they handled her because she could have been fantastic. They got a better wig in season 2 but Jesus. The whole show is styled terribly, though.

For some reason tan characters are considered black by some people even though they canonically are not, and using bronzer or spray tan to look closer to them is "racist". The community is full of retards so it's no surprise.

That being said, that suit looks cheap as fuck and it's a lazy cosplay altogether.

Read the whole article and don’t just read the clickbait title dumbass. The person who tweeted that they liked the cosplay over the black actress who plays starfire was being accused of racism. Very few people calling it blackface. I don’t agree with these people but it takes 10 seconds to read the article to see that was just clickbait

the community has gone to shit since a bit more than a decade ago. if you do cosplay for accolades and clout you deserve anything negative that happens because of it.

that being said anyone should be allowed to cosplay any characters they want, and as long as it isnt blackface, it isnt racist.

but as i care even less than i do to put the rest of my thoughts on this, take it for what you will.

Entryism. The best way to take over a scene is to kick the people already there out, and the best way to do that is to accuse them of unforgivable, unprovable crimes.
Being racist/sexist ranks only below being a pedo and a terrorist in our culture, and when you accuse a someone of being a terrorist you actually have to provide proof.

When Titans had it's first leaked pictures, people were already talking about how bad Starfire looked and queue the people screaming racism because it was a black actress. The problem is there are plenty of coplayers both white and black who look fantastic as Starfire. It's that the black community can't stand any criticism of any black actor ever. The dude from Blackish even talked about that problem.

Most of the complaints are saw were from black people complaining about the shit wig and the backlash was a bunch of white tumblrinas but okay. There were some white people complaining about casting a black person in and of itself and well yeah that’s racist.

Yeah they're all awful but some are at least recognizable (spiked hair on Beast Boy, middle part on Raven, etc.) Star just got the shit end of the stick in the worst way. They could have picked an equally pretty black actress with a closer skin tone and done the wig styling way better for her. Instead they turned a beautiful actress into of work stripper tier trash with their poor costume choices.

>> No.10392449

Ok, it's an adaptation of a preexisting early 2000s design from the two dimensional realm of comics and animation. You're criticizing the design itself not the designer. I'd agree that it's outdated and has flaws if this was a brand new character, but it's a literal faithful translation from a 20 year old 2d character to live action. It would be like saying the person however sewed and processed Superman's outside red underwear for the movies did terrible even though that initial design is 80 years old

>Didn't you post this in defense of them though?
When you hire a person for an entertainment project, you are hiring them to present a creative variation while still maintaining the creative vision of you, the leader of the project. There are heavy metal artists who've been hired for Disney, french painters who've done horror movies, and indie drama writers who've done superhero movies. It's a business. I am defending the designer, but I'm also giving the designer slack, because why would a director for a tv show or movie want to give a designer 100% full creative control? That's why her work on Titans and Stargirl are tonally different, with titans being more casual wear and blocky suits and Stargirl's costume being textured and accurate to the preexisting design. You can say they're all bad, but take perspective into the mix. I looked through Laura Jean Shannon's non superhero costumes , Scott Pigrim Vs. The world, Elf, formal clothes in Iron man, the Jumanji sequel with the Rock, Requiem for a Dream. They're fine clothes for their respective movie, but if these characters from those movies walked into one world, would they have homogeneity? Of course not, because every design was made with different intentions. It's why there can be a Cyborg on a small DC tv show and a big budgeted DC movie, yet they don't look anything alike, because every design for any project will not be made with the same state of mind

>> No.10392799

There were only one or two idiots accusing her of black face. If the tweet made by another person saying something critical about the black actress wasn’t made there wouldn’t be any idiots calling the cosplayer blackface. Every time cgl whines about some rando being accused of black face it’s always just 2 randos on twitter. Marv Wolfman didn´t make a dime of the show outside of some of his comics being reprinted due to it. His opinions on the show are public and not hard to find.

Most comic writers don´t get a dime of work for hire jobs for the big 2 being filmed. DC at least thanks a handful of them in the credits since BvS.
