It seems as if the era of 2008-2012 era sweet is back upon us. Lets share coordinates, discuss the differences in how the style is worn now vs back then, and what we like/dislike about iit

What is Deco-Lolita?
>A crossover between decora fashion and lolita fashion that gained popularity around 2007
>Usually involves a large amount of accesories, occasional colored wigs, layering and use of toys as props or accessories

What is OTT Sweet Lolita?
>A sweet lolita coordinate worn to it's most dressed up potential
>Gained a lot of popularity around 2010.
>Usually involves heavier makeup, use of a wig or very full hair
>Usually involves a "full" coordinate worn as a set, OP or JSK

What is the difference?
>The main difference is that Deco-lolita involves higher levels of accessorization and color coordination. Deco-lolita is also older.

Take my descriptions with a grain of salt, they aren't set in stone, just what I believe is the common difference between the two. Some people don't consider them seperate, and some people don't think Deco-lolita counts as lolita at all.

And what people consider OTT is varied, some people would consider any coordinate with a wig as OTT, and other wouldn't. I encourage discussion but keep derailing to a minium.

Well, other brands never really did release this style. Sure, BTSSB and Meta tried, theres a few of their releases that were in the deco and OTT circulation, but for the most part this is an AP exclusive style.

And I think this style is coming back, even without new releases. Dresses from this era are going up in price on the secondhand market. I see Sugary Carnival and Milky Planet starting to sell for upwards of $300 again, when before they'd dipped to under $200 for some colorways. The prices in the Japanese market for those prints are also increasing.

And even without new dresses, I see Japanese lolitas in the tags rewear classic prints in deco/OTT ways. Plus, Ice Cream Parlour was such a hit i am sure that AP with release it again and they'll make more along that vein in the future.

half wigs have that bubble effect when worn as ponytails, they're really rounded on top with lots of volume, and thin/tapered at he bottom. ponytail clips are usually solid and in one chunk. Japanese ponytail clips lack layers, the proper volume and length to get that look.

Do you think the old school and moitie trends would exist without an online fanbase of paying customers? Baby didn’t randomly start making the classical series dresses out of nowhere, there was demand. AP pays attention to demand, otherwise we never would’ve gotten a Honey Cake release (which wasn’t a popular series back in the day). Ice Cream Parlour sold out fast and immediately got an MTO. Last year AP had the 50s inspired Milkshake series which the western lolitas didn’t like much but the Japanese lolitas ate it up, and that’s why this year we got Neon Star Diner (which was also similar to Fancy Candy, another huge release).

AP is riding the retro trend and the OTT sweet revival in 2020 and 2021

Chocomint is still around but for some reason closed their Rakuten and social media. You can buy them through Closet Child (thought they're not called Chocomint, I think they're just labeled "original item" or something like that?) and Dreamy Bows.
