Has anyone catch their cosplay being mocked off on normie social media?

>> No.10385654

No, but I’m sure it’s happened. Every year at acen there’s a bunch of locals passing by the con who’ll ask for a picture of me with my friends even though we’re all cosplaying from different things. Sure some of them might look at the work we’ve put into our costumes and think it’s neat, but I’m sure at least a few of the people who have taken these photos over the years have done so in a mean spirited way

>>10385654
Same. I can feel their intentions when they ask me for a photo.

The picture someone got of me was actually from the route to acen. I was running late to a shoot so I already had makeup and full costume on. A friend sent me the link to some guy's social media where he tried to roast me, but Chicagoans have gotten desensitized to cosplayers and my costume was just a jumpsuit and bear makeup so the post was really underwhelming and died quickly.

Another time, I never found the post, but I fell asleep on the train coming home from con and woke up to a guy taking pics of me. He said he felt bad tho and wanted me to know he just wanted to post on fandom twitter.

Last year I went to a convention that happened to be in the same building as a sewing/crafts expo. My buddies and I wandered in while searching for good photo locations and the boomer ladies loved my cosplay. It was pretty wholesome until we got yelled at by a Karen to leave

A couple of years ago I was at the local city con and a group of lads came up to me and were harassing me a bit when I was on my own. Got to my friends and fortunately they broke off. Then I found out they slapped a bunch of stickers to my outfit that one of the stands were giving out. Turns out they were doing it to a few people, not sure if they got kicked out or not.

They were very much not the typical con-goer type, and I guess they just swung by since train and entry tickets were fairly cheap.

While I was at AX a few years ago, I caught some local trying to sneak a photo of me over her shoulder while I was waiting for the shuttle to the convention center. If I hadn’t been such a self conscious wimpy teen at the time I might’ve told her off, but I think I shouted “thanks for the pic” before she walked too far away.
I thought for sure LA people were used to this nonsense at least, but apparently not.

You know, I originally read it as "cosplayers out in the wild" and "kakashi has had a hard day of accounting class" things. Maybe because his intention was to post it on twitter for funnies and not for like "personal use", but upon a second and more clear reading I def wouldn't feel comfortable if someone did that to me.

That was actually what he was going for. I was cosplaying Toad so he was supposedly making a "hard day in the mushroom kingdom" post. While he was nice and apologetic afterwards, taking pictures of people sleeping, cosplay or nah is still really weird.

When I went to a convention in middle school with a group of friends, most of them had a costume but I didn't. One of my friends always tailored and made a bunch of her own costumes. She lent me her John Egbert costume to wear so I wouldn't feel left out. I tried out the wig but it looked dumb with my face shape so I just decided to go without it.
Felt kinda self-conscious about it since I had long brown hair and it was barely the character, my friends said it could be like a female spin on the character or something idk.
People would still want to take photos with me and genuinely complement me though. which I was surprised about. I remember some girl was gushing over me while I was waiting in line for the tickets.
There are definitely pictures out there, but I've never seen em and I hope I don't lol, I was a damn gremlin in grade school.

Weirdly seen the opposite more often. People with very simple or not that great cosplays reasonably ignored by the cosplay community, but getting their "talent, creativity, and artistry" lauded by normie communities. Way back in high school I was objectively a shit cosplayer but everyone just thought it was THE COOLEST THING EVER because I was the only/first cosplayer they knew.

I take public transit to get to cons in my city and go in complete cosplay and often by myself. Most people keep to themselves and will give compliments here and there, only once did a crazy old guy start yelling at me on the subway. I generally just brush it off and go on my phone. Most ppl know what cosplay is and there are so many alternative fashions here no one really blinks at a cosplayer.

I went to anime north a few years ago and took a route I wasn't familiar with but would apparently get me there. I got on the wrong bus that was more express and went right by the convention centre and had to get off at a mall in the suburbs. I was waiting for my next correct bus and there were two teenage girls there with me who really liked my cosplay. Took selfies with me. It was pretty great. I've also had great conversations with bus drivers and old ladies while commuting, so if your friendly it's usually fine.

Once at fan expo toronto a Karen asked me what was going on since the Ripleys Aquarium is right beside the convention centre. I had to really dumb it down for her to essentially "do you know Startrek conventions" and boomer's typically know what that is.

I saw him at Momocon. My bf and I went into the Cosplay Deviants booth and my bf was telling me about how Boner Robin runs the site. I was incredulous and laughing about it, and I said something to the effect of "well he finally put that boner to use". Turns out he was sitting at the counter 2 feet behind us. I want to die whenever I think about it.
