Anyone got the taobao link to these cutsews? I want to know if the listing has the measurements since they only mentioned they're 50cm flat measured and "stretchy"

https://egl.circlly.com/auctions/detachable-bunny-ear-cutsew-assorted-colors-black-pink-blue-white

I am also sure they cost far less than $70 each even with the cost of SS. The tag in the listing seems to say "Forest Rabbit"; pic related for what it looks like.

My only asterisk is if you have big legs from muscles. Even if there is a fair amount of fat too, you’ll likely have skinnish ankles (where there’s no muscle) and ankle socks can be a godsend. My legs look fat as hell in anything other than crew socks

>> No.10379563

>>10379425
I have legs and ankles like tree trunks and ime SHOES are more important than socks when it comes to 'flattering' your legs. You want to look for shoes that take up more 'visual space'. Shoes with chunky soles (like creepers, platforms, or RHSs) are a godsend. Boots, even slim traditional 'victorian' style ones, are also good.

Tea parties and other delicate small shoes will usually just emphasize your legs, sort of like how ballet flats are so unflattering. (Obviously if you have giant feet you can probably wear whatever.)

Ankle socks are fine so long as they kind of 'disappear' (like the mesh ones) and don't break up the line of your leg too much. Tights are the best, ime, if the pattern doesn't distort or warp too much. OTKs are fine, too, if they're comfortable on your thighs. UTKs are very dependent on the length of your skirt and if you have nice knees.

Last time I was on it some bunch of itas were spamming 3-5 photos of every bad outfit, that really soured my experience of it. Plus searching for particular dresses is practically useless, it fully depends on owners spelling out which dress it is, most owners apparently don't and they often don't bother tagging the brand either.

It seemed like a good idea but it worked out more like a less functional instagram and less useful wear.jp so I guess everybody just stuck to instagram and facebook instead.

I often see lolitas disagree on whether or not nun / religious, retro, circus, etc. should be considered a substyle because it's too one-note or already falls under sweet, classic, or gothic. However, sailor, pirate, military, hime, etc. are considered substyles despite being the same thing. Am I off for thinking this way?
I've always viewed the "big three" (sweet, classic, gothic) as general aesthetics that can be worn as-is or be applied to a substyle (ie sweet sailor, classic sailor, gothic sailor), so I don't really understand the upset about these newer substyles.

the only substyle i think should be seperate is hime because it's practically it's own style next to goth, sweet and classic. the others are just themes. people who disagree about newer ones but are ok with older ones are just going off misako or glbs strictly.

You’re confusing theme with substyle. Substyles have broader aesthetics in common (shape and length of skirt, common silhouettes, size of florals, colors, etc). Themes have very specific concepts attached to them that can be created using a variety of substyles.

For example, you could have classic or sweet country lolita. You have the idea, just the terms reversed.

DHL is a courier and acts separate from Japan's post, although you'd need to see if DHL still delivers to your country, and even if they do it might still be risky (delays/high volume). I've had problems with DHL on a good day, can't imagine how bad they'd be with the stress of a pandemic.

Also, they're super expensive, and I've heard they're worse now, and you will most likely have to pay fees before it is delivered to you, regardless if it gets hit by customs or not. All my DHL packages have had fees that cost more than the items themselves, and that fee + shipping pre-pandemic would be over $100CAD for small shit like a blouse or video game (which they crushed to bits). I'm adding this part in case you have access to other courier options that aren't DHL.

Oxyclean usually, but there’s no such thing as a magic bullet for stains. I’d advise against getting something with stains as the only way to know how to remove them properly is to know what they are from. For example, I tried to get out a light stain and made it a million times worse because it was a rust stain and I used oxyclean.

Just as a heads up for you or whoever this is relevant to: minimizers will only do so much, and they may make your boobs look weird. They generally pancake your boobs, and the tissue has to go somewhere, so you can end up with squashed looking boobs that look smaller from the side but bigger from the front. IME a minimizer also makes it harder to reach around your boobs because it jams them into your pits. Can also cause pain and prevent lymph nodes from draining properly. That said, with all of these things YMMV, so try one anyway because you might get lucky. Just keep your expectations low.

So japonica just sent me this about shipping my item,

"Please confirm
(Canada) customs is very difficult…
You have to pay large tax and customs.
First, Please ask (Canada) customs about your tax and customs.

We have to declare the actual value for an insurance.
If you cancel an insurance contract, we can declare the low value.
but you have to take responsibility for all.

How much value should I declare on your package ?"

I've never had to ask Canada customs about anything from Japan before, should I just ignore that part of the email and tell them what I'd like them to declare the package as and confirm that I accept any loss? I asked them to mark it as a gift but I might just take the hit to avoid issues, the item was only 15,000 yen but I've had ridiculous customs charges Japan before for 10,000+ yen packages (all from WW, never from any other site or ss though).

What they are telling you is that if you do not mark the package down you will 100% be hit with customs as Canada is known to have unreasonable fees, but if you mark it down they will not refund you if the item is lost.
Just say "thank you, I understand. I would like to void the insurance and go forward with marking the package at a low value" and finish with an amount somewhere under 60CAD, anything more is hit with the high fee typically.

We can now also offer international shipping via Yamato International TA-Q-BIN for customers who wish to receive their orders quickly without waiting for regular EMS and ePacket shipping to resume.
Please note that Yamato is also not able to deliver as quickly as usual.
Please note that this shipping method is considerably more expensive than EMS. As your order was placed during our free shipping campaign you will only be charged the difference between Yamato and EMS shipping.
All shipments are insured up to 200.000JPY.
Yamato shipments will be sent out only once a week.
If you have friends in your country with open orders, you can also opt to have all these orders combined and shipped to one person (getting all orders where they need to be once they arrived in your country will need to be handled by yourselves).
Please note that orders shipped through Yamato cannot be delivered to post-office boxes and hotels or lodging facilities.
All orders will be declared at their correct, full value for customs purposes as usual. Marking down packages is not possible.
Once in your country, orders will either be delivered to you by Yamato's overseas subsidiary or a local delivery service. Please note that we do not know which company in which country handles the shipments."

Sweet lolitas tens to say full shirring when they just mean full back shirring and when the say partial shirring they’re referring to just a strip down the middle of the back with corset ribbons to tighten it. But technically full shirring is all the way around the front of the dress and if the entire back being shirred that can be considered partial shirring. So you have to be more specific to avoid confusion. Almost all full back shirring AP dresses fit to around 100cm. Newer ones, like 2014 on, go up to 120

...No one's gonna ask what it was in the first place?

- Burando should be fine, especially newer/firsthand pieces
- secondhand/old burando **should** be fine, but you never know what previous owner did to it. You can try sacrificing a waist tie and see if it survives. Good chance it'll be ok.
- Taobao *lolita* brands should also be fine, especially from a reputable a brand, but the cheaper, less "lolita"-like brand, or very small random shops carry a risk of using cheaper materials.
- non-lolita/fast fashion : strictly follow the care labels, don't deviate.

Explanation:

- It depends on the glue used to stick the flocking onto the fabric. One type is water-resistant, the other type is not and needs to be dry-cleaned.

- most lolita brands know their clientele is middle class and chose sturdy fabrics for their dresses. Hence, most burando tries hard to be sturdy and machine-washable even if the care tag tries to be posh and specifies non-PCE dry cleaning (there are very few exceptions).

- Secondhand, you never know if the glue has deteriorated due to storage or whatever, even dry-cleaning could destroy it. But, if you received it in good condition and it isn't shedding/balding, it's likely to survive the washing machine a few more times at least. Provided you didn't get unlucky and end up with one of the rare unwashable items (by now most of them should have shedded or molded to death anyway)

- taobao lolita brands follow this, but sometimes the shop just isn't able to provide the best fabric. If you can track back their sales page, it will stress quite heavily if it's an item you need to dryclean (early Krad Lanrete for eg)

- the cheaper "lolita" shops just don't give af and use whatever fabric, in which case, follow the care label

- fast fashion/non-lolita have no such practices. Therefore, strictly follow their care labels, who knows what's going through their heads when they chose this particular fabric.

some people's hair is more porous than others, so you never know. I've heard that for semi permanents, reds wash out really easily, but you might have more luck with a straight black. I dyed my hair using Loreal's colorista (the teal colour), it's usually a medium brown. It wasn't a super striking difference, but certain lighting really brought out the green tones, and I was happy with it, as my hair got quite a bit darker. It last about six weeks before fading completely.

Black from a box dye (or professional permanent dye, probably) is going to be really hard to lift if you change your mind at any point. You'll have to wait for all of it to grow out. Same thing with henna - apparently because of how it stains your chair, it's tricky to bleach/lift out afterwards. But it's probably much better for your hair than box dye because it's plant based and doesn't use any developer or peroxide or what have you.

I would probably try a semi-permanent dye first (depending on how much hair you have and what brand you buy, you'd only be spending anywhere from $10-$30 to get enough dye) and if it doesn't get you results you like, you can always attempt a different method.

For sock dreams it depends on what kind of sock you actually get. The "solid opaque thigh high" has a smooth texture and a tigher band and holds very well on me, would recommend for most cosplays. The "Extraordinary thigh high" has a much looser elastic, it's a bit of a looser weave and I would recommend using sock glue with it. If you are particularly tall they also come in a longer version. They also have nice ribbed socks (the cuffable scrunchable ones or whatever) and opaque stockings (so a thinner nylon material) in various colours. You definitely need sock glue for the nylons cuz they roll down like crazy.

Sock dreams do have some designs that work ok for classic, I have some crocheted OTKs in cream I tend to wear a lot, or stockings with vertical stripes, etc. but mostly they're few and far in between. I wish they'd put out some nice floral tights in various colours, I'm sure they'd be appreciated by normies and I'd definitely love them for lolita. Most tights from taobao, even ones labelled as plus size, have never fit me properly.

What the best/most polite way to tell somebody you have to leave them negative feedback on LM?

Somebody messaged me a couple of days ago about me holding an item for them until they get paid, as well as asking about international shipping costs, and before I was able to get back to them to warn them that the shipping would be very expensive because it's a heavy item, they bought the listing. I've just messaged them back with the shipping options and I've got a bad feeling that they are going to come back saying that they can't afford the item or that they need me to hold it for even longer. >>10384282
That's exactly what happened. Her first message to me was earlier in the week asking about if I can hold something for her. I responded telling her that it depended on which item she was interested in and for how long she needed the hold. I'm very sorry if anyone thought this was supposed to be a full coord and caused distress.
And I agree about the skirt now, as many others have pointed out.

Yep I do dress pretty boring, but no I'm not a man (and thanks for calling it cute uwu)
I was wondering if it could be "loliable" and wanted decent advice/had naive ita dreams of making it work, that's why I posted here.

That's a really good suggestion, I tried it all on with a blouse and petticoat but the jacket just makes it look too normie/like other jfashion

I don't have a decent mirror to take pictures with so that's why I didn't haha. I do have other lolita pieces (although my only petticoat is a shitty Bodyline one, I bet no one is surprised ha) but I was quarantine cleaning my closet and the idea stuck with me.

Obviously I went barking up the wrong tree by trying to make the jacket a focus of the non-existent coord as it wrecks the proper silhouette and strays too far into other fashion. Back to the drawing board and lurking for me.

Thanks to everyone who gave feedback and advice!

That anon is right, though. That jacket isn't even cute for normie fashion. I would quarantine clean both the jacket and the school uniform skirt. Like really, you gotta get rid of the old school uniforms. They're designed to be unflattering. Just get a cute fashion tartan skirt if you must have one.

how did you find a gf who also wears lolita? i have no problems talking to people but i don’t want to offend anyone in such a relatively tiny community, especially if i’m not sure they’re into chicks

Your jacket isn't even a bomber jacket, not that a real one would look better with lolita. But definitely something to declutter, it looks very cheap and early 2000s

Does anyone have experience shopping through Zozotown? It seems preferable to shopping from individual brand stores because you could (hopefully) buy from multiple shops without having multiple shipping fees, but I'm not sure if that's how it actually works?
