Have you guys checked out Harajuku Hearts? It’s the store that AP San Fran shares with so all the stuff is in stock in America. They have Imai Kira goods in stock now! There’s a markup on their selection but I buy Qpot and listen flavor stuff from them all the time and once you factor in SS fees and international shipping it’s no different than getting it from Japan

I need some help guys... Recently found out one of my dream dresses I owned was really a replica. And it was a close friend who sold it to me. I thought I was getting a really good deal, she was giving me a discount because it was really damaged. (I buy damaged often so this isn't unusual for me) I only found out it was a replica when I went to sell it since due to covid I needed the money more than I needed the dress. upon inspection and comparison I realised it was a replica. I paid several times more than the replica cost brand new. When I told her she had sold me a replica she said she didn't know andblamed anyone but herself, that she had received it as a gift when she was 14 so it's not her fault (she's rich and has a rich family). I told her I wanted a break from being friends since she's had a long history of using me, abusing me and stealing my things.

I'm so angry at myself for thinking I could trust her. I should have known before I bought it. She's one of my bestfriends how could she have done this to me. I've done so much for her and this is how she treats me. I want to throw the dress out.

To make up for it she's getting me something off mercari for the same value i paid for the dress.

She still hasn't properly apologized and im still upset about it. I don't want to be nice anymore I need to stop forgiving her. I'm terrified of her and often avoid confrontation at all costs. I don't go on here often but I really need some help right now. What should I do?

Yeah it took awhile to get even a refund out of here after a friend's had to pressure it out of her. I am very certain it's a replica it's cream cookie collection. Shit like this is so cute; I wish Maxicimam had easier to order from US stores or something.

The quality is great and they're making cute fun ways to do old school looks with their pieces AND are ridiculously plus sized friendly in addition to still carrying smaller sizes for most of the same items too...maybe the old school trend will help them become more popular with western lolitas since many of their items are old school-inspired or work with modern old school style coords.

Surface Mail is still available to most of the countries. There is a list for this:

2nd are the countries to which everything is suspended, also Surface mail.
If your country is not on the list they still ship there with EMS, AirMail and Surface Mail. SAL has been canceled to every country. Because of the restrictions it takes Japanese post over 2 weeks to get the parcels through customs.

That depends on where you live I guess? EMS is still available to my country. I don't think EMS will resume for the time being if you're in a zone they suspended. Perhaps if you're really eager you can use another courier? Like DHL. If you want it shipped now but don't mind super slow delivery, surface is a great option. It's very reliable and cheap, still running for all destinations I think?

In general I prefer it when items (even ones I don't want) go for less cause it makes the secondhand market more affordable for everyone if prices stay reasonable or even cheap, so seeing someone spend the BIN price and drive up the market value is a little bit of a bummer if something normally goes for less.

When looking at dress prints, you can often easily tell if its brand, taobao or western indie just by glancing at it. What is the difference between brand prints and taobao that sets them apart so much? It's not as if the artists are bad at drawing/designing, but something is always off and I've never been able to put my finger on it, what are they getting wrong?

obviously generalizing, but western indie brands often have a bigger central graphic and don't have as much background detail OR they use straight up joeann's fabrics shit that is immediately recognizable as such. they also tend to massively underdetail bodices and tend to use a different set of color palettes than burando usually does.

a lot of off brand tries to go for the niche market since the bigger, more obvious stuff is done well by brand. lady sloth used to make pretty JetJ style painting prints but switched to oversaturated ~quirky~ prints when that sold better

there's also the fact that every brand looks like their brand. like baby doesn't look like ap and vice versa, but because they are both brands we see their style under the "brand" category.

They often have a trademark style and an existing fanbase, meanwhile indie brands seem to use whatever artist student they find lying around or straight up "copy" an existing style. The fluctuating differences in style isn't really helping their brand image either, you can't even get a consistent style out of the expensive Krad Lanrete except "it's almost as good as brand" because half their designs "look like" brand, ie- they're just copying someone else's style.

eg, for Angelic Pretty in particular Maki and Asuka aren't just the brand designers, they're also billed as illustrators. So AP designs and prints have always been really consistent because it's the same two people who were managing all the releases all this time. People who like their style will follow them straight to another brand, seriously. AP even releases artbooks of their prints once in a while.

That's why you'd find people support Sheglit because the designer is ex-BPN, people want to know where the designer for VM has gone after she quit, or Axes Femme or Soufflesong hypes up a release because the print was designed by aatp designer.

(This is in addition to all the wonky art indie brands seem to make)

I think Chinese brands put more emphasis on selling quickly at a cheaper price point than "burandos" so they focus more on being able to manufacture pieces with speed. They also use kitsch more to sell dresses, and tend to feature allover prints. I think they also put less time into the prints, so whatever is in the first draft is what gets printed. Japanese burando prints tend to be more dimensional and graphic, in that the designs stand out more strongly from the background, and they also tend to be less busy. Additionally, taobao brands often cut their dresses so they don't need to be fitted very well to a body. They use high waisted or sack designs, and if there is a natural waist it tends to not be super fitted. One of the things I love about AP is how flattering their natural waist dresses are, and there's no doubt a lot of work went into that. This isn't to say there aren't some really lovely taobao pieces, just that they tend to put more emphasis on trendiness and fast manufacturing.
However it's pretty obvious that japanese burandos saw the huge volume of dresses chinese brands can sell, and they decided they wanted a piece of that. Now so many of APs designs look very taobao, with allover prints, loose silhouettes, and cheaper materials. But that's just the way trends are right now.

The values are wack, I can hardly distinguish the ponies from the sugary macaron background. If the contrast was higher it would look much better. And that's not even touching on the bad cartoon horse anatomy. Even if it's very much stylized, it still has to follow some rules of anatomy in order to stay believable. AP knows what they're doing and and it's very apparent in their design and color choices. I don’t have any artistic background so it’s hard for me to articulate but there is something that always looks very flat about taobao illustrations and print designs to me. I agree taobao designers/illustrators aren’t bad, there is just some kind of depth missing when I look at them. Maybe this is dumb but brand prints often looks like an illustration from a book I would have owned as a child, which is what draws me to them. Taobao never really captures the same feeling for me.

It's often screen printed with a specific kind of ink, assuming Asian companies use the same method, and brand designers seem to adjust their artwork to suit that printing method using "blobs" of color to shade and outline shapes rather than perfectly crisp lines the way taobao designs do, which are mostly sublimation printed because it's cheap but it requires the fabric to always be synthetic and usually has a slight sheen.

I don't know a ton about printing methods but brand cotton at the very least is printed with processes that result in a much nicer result even if the design was the same.

For the past however long, there was a lot of nay-saying here and other places with japan's shipping, mostly towards ems but other options too. Further digging and poorly made mspaint collage to back up my last post. The lolibrary page even says that most of the factory replicas have hearts instead of star beads on the straps (source: https://lolibrary.org/items/taobao-dream-sky-factory-replica-jsk)) and this one has those hearts. And the seller didn't post an up close shot of the lace, but it kinda looks like the generic replica lace imo.
