> The ethicality of promoting your upcoming live show during the virus outbreak

People were complaining last thread about an event being hosted in late July and yet we have idols meeting up to shoot videos during the outbreak, right now, telling people "don't follow our example haha" and nobody finds that to be an issue.

Paida is competing to be part of an idol group produced by a former member of Morning Musume! She posted instructions on how to vote for her (pic related).

Some notes: Your stars replenish 1 per minute, and your maximum amount of stars increases as you level up. The gift icon allows you to spend "coins" to send virtual "gifts" that also count towards Paida's rank. You earn a few coins as a daily log-in bonus, but you can also purchase them in-app if you really want to.

Maybe medically tone deaf, or at least outside the spectrum of normal pitch detection and reproduction... basically I have a friend who wants to try making idol content but is tone deaf. She can dance well enough and even has a pleasant enough natural voice, but as far as I can tell people usually need professional help/training to overcome it. I was wondering if any net idols with tone deafness soldier on and continue to make music, or fill different niches in their group maybe e.g. the rapper?

>> No.10373867

>>10373677
It depends how bad it is I would assume. But they can look up tips and tricks to help them find the right notes. They will just have to train themselves a lot. It's not impossible, just will take them a bit longer. If it's significantly difficult for them but they have good rhythm, then a rapper might be a good option for them. Or if they are in a group they can stick to singing only when accompanied by another singer so they have a pitch example to follow with. I'm not an expert by any means, but that's what I've gathered from my experience when working with someone like that.

Not directed at you necessarily anon, but this is what bothers me the most about tone deaf idols - they have no idea how awful they usually sound. I even know one who played an instrument but was still unable to pitch her own voice. From what I've observed, cosidols often see each other as direct competition, usually when they are from the same series, and the drama arises from this. They'll pick apart other cosplayers' costumes, dancing, and image because it helps to inflate their own self worth. Original idols are more likely to understand that they each need to find their own niche/audience rather than competing for fans from a pool of weebs. If cosidols are a problem, people need to speak up when they throw shit fits. Where was all this talk when I saw so many cosidols throw tantrums in OIC? The main staff was left to dealing with them alone. Not a single person spoke up alongside the staff. We can't expect the staff to make changes in the community by themselves. Here's something that I have noticed: During the time the community started dying down, I was hit with a wave of drama not only on here but also behind the scenes while I was dealing with AmbiFlora. Bringing up the point >>10376299 addressed, I can confirm that even after the dust settled that not only I was dealing with those types of problems but the entire idol community as a collective experienced similar types of drama. Where would this cycle around? The loss of overall trust with one another due to said drama. 2019 was not only a rough year for not only me but for us as a collective; staff and community members alike on all sides - cosidol or not. Now imagine the toll on people's psyche's dealing with that immense amount of tension, it would be really hard for people to have the will power to build a strong rapport with those within the community thus the division split even further.

Of course, this is an explanation, not an excuse. Though by taking what I stated into consideration, what would be there for OIC to update? Most we did was separate into 2 servers: OIC Regular & OIC Lite, consolidated channels in the discord server, and moderated what we could. It would be difficult to run a community in the first place when more and more people started talking less in said discord servers. Also as far as our Facebook goes, topics about general Overseas Idol talk died down with it and the most that was posted in the group was self-promotion. Fast forward to now, I don't blame the radio silence since it's going to take time for us collectively to heal and now that everyone is in quarantine time, it gives us a chance to reflect on the past so we can figure out how to rebuild the community now moving into the future.

Julily/Calliope and Rhian (self-titled character) both left Vivacu today. Julily I half expected when she announced her graduation last year, but I didn’t expect her to go so soon. Rhian was a surprise as she was the one who started it with San. There’s no word yet on whether or not they’ll be recast or the characters retired and replaced with new ones.

That marks 4 lineup changes since the group’s announcement since almost 2 years ago (July 2018), the first being Ritsu (original voice of Lara) and the second being Haru (the original voice of Hitomi). Funnily enough, Haru was never announced to have left as far as I remember. It just kind of happened.

With all this said and the group only having one song, I’m really interested to see what they do next. There’s very few updates from the group or the progress, so I hope everything is going smoothly.

Agreed. It seemed like a stress reaction to not meeting your own expectations for yourself, which can be incredibly crushing to deal with. Being in this hobby means balancing both the desire to get better and better with the need to take care of yourself and rest. Everyone repeats the mantra "this is a hobby, we need to be patient with ourselves and live our real lives too" but is bad at following it themselves. It becomes way too easy to burn out by spending all your free time either working on this hobby or feeling guilty that you're not working on it. Especially if he's putting out weekly dance covers, that's not sustainable and it's understandable that he had a meltdown over not feeling good enough. I hope he takes some time to rest and scales down his activity to a manageable level.

I personally think getting to this level means they’d have to put money into it. I’m pretty sure 4te wanted the group to go somewhere and they sought out resources for it. The same goes for Chii. These groups don’t have the same drive.

>> No.10380093

>>10380085
Money doesn't always solve the problem. If someone can still look ita in a lolita branded dresses, hiring a top notch music and video producer wont make them a better idol. It just makes their visuals better. None can buy vocal or dancing talent.

>> No.10380110

>>10380093
I mean.... if you want to get better at singing and dancing you’re going to want to pay money for classes. Talent is natural. You’re supposed to develop talent into skill. What you can’t buy is charisma or personality. A lot of idols are talented but don’t develop that talent or don’t put in the effort to improve visuals.

>> No.10380119

>>10380110
No anon, you must be pretty spoiled to think money can fix anything. You can buy classes, I wholeheartedly agree, but you can also lead a horse to water but it wont drink. Going to classes doesnt guarentee improvements in vocals or dancing. Some people just cannot hold a beat or are so musically inept.

>> No.10380121

>>10380119
Samefag, sorry, but I think the real problem is idols are not self aware about their skills and image at all. If they can be aware of how bad they are, then maybe money can help. Narcisism is holding back the community, not financial capabilities.

>> No.10380129

>>10380119
>>10380121
I’m not spoiled, I’m realistic. If you want to improve you need to put in the work. Unfortunately, for this hobby, that means putting in money. If you can’t sing and don’t know you can’t sing, you have an issue. If you go to a music class and they say you can’t sing, you either stay to learn how to get by or you leave. The same for dancing. I can’t help it that they aren’t self aware. There’s a difference between awareness and narcissism. You can still be self aware and wrongly think you’re the shit. The problem isn’t that they think they’re the best, it’s that they think everyone is worse. If you wanna get better, put up or shut up.

>> No.10380145

It's a little bit of everything, honestly. You have to not only be talented, but have the discipline and drive to refine that talent and improve the spots you're lacking in. You also have to be willing to put a little money into production, unless you're also highly skilled at composing, mixing, and producing videos. You can't fix no talent with money, but you also can't make a fantastic MV without some people backing you.

If you look at this video, most of it looks so DIY and cheap, but not in a bad way. Chii looks like she just cut up some paper and supplies from the local store and asked friends to help film.

What people need to get on this level is passion for art and creation. A lot of people doing this are doing is for friendship, popularity, not about music or expressing an idea or having a real passion for music. That's the main thing people lack.

I agree with the anons saying people are spoiled for thinking you need money to be good. It takes creativity and drive. If you have internet, you can learn anything. Granted, having a teacher in front of you will help numerously, but there are so many people I've seen doing this claiming to have had background in musical theater and such and such but still look awkward dancing to idol dances.

Doing idol things because you want friends is what causes all this drama. When you have people working in a group who want to put on a good show vs people who just want friends, the person who just wants to be friends will get offended when the person who wants to put on a good show takes things seriously and tells the other all the things they need to improve to get better.

Ultimately, people's motives, lack of creativity with thinking outside of the box, and lack of self awareness is what needs to be fixed to get on a higher level.

I agree. It was an awkward choice to do at the same time. It would be different if it was a situation where they live streamed reacting to videos that people asked them to react to. That would be a smart segment for them to do in the future. But, they chose a live idol fest hosted by a group that obviously are young inexperienced weebs. Of course it was gonna be a mess so choosing to react to it live is like, eh, why bother. The submissions truly were some of the most underwhelming videos I've ever seen in my entire life and I have no idea how some of these people could think submitting something like THAT would be acceptable to make people sit through. Agreed. Although I can see why people found their reactions awkward, Julily and Nyaru would actually be able to put on a decent virtual event like this, and really set a clear expectation of the quality of entries.

Also really liked Ayumi on the second day, she had some of the best tuning of the singers and was maybe dancing too. Her, Cherry and Katie are the sort of acts I would want because they bothered to film something just for the event. Cherry's felt like a karaoke session but it was hype and showed her versatility well.
I know groups can't do this so it was alright to have reused dance covers or masquerade performances (not that all of them were good quality).

I haven't heard of Shining Idol Project before, they just look like low tier cosplayers? Are they quality in their performances? Do they sing? I literally don't see anything or there that makes them qualified to critique others in an organized, public fashion like this. At least ChiRi has judged actual competitions and are experienced enough to offer critique, and I'm sure others who participated were also more qualified than this group.

Besides, if I see something labeled as a "festival" and not a competition, I'm not going to assume the hosts will be offering critique. Were there guidelines for the judging? Were the participants notified that the videos they sent in would be judged? Was there an avenue for the participants to receive private, personalized feedback so they could improve?

Not that I don't like constructive criticism (I think it's absolutely essential to improving) but the idea of a group of inexperienced nobodies branding their event as a "festival" and then shit talking the people who participate as a form of "criticism" really rubs me the wrong way.

Stellure’s album was released on YouTube and Google Play today. I haven’t listened to it yet but I’m disappointed they didn’t redo Bright Future. I would’ve liked to at least hear what it’d sound like with the new members. This is their whole discography with 2 or 3 unreleased songs right? It was hard to find it thought because it’s not on their channel and there’s no playlist.

I only know about her from one of the times she had complaints about a commission and I watched her Livestream. And desu the idol community everywhere is pretty toxic so I don't feel like that's just her being unreasonable. I'm sure she has her justifications. I don't know about her bullying though. So I would need some more evidence on who she bullied and how. She mentioned in the Livestream she can't seem to hold onto friends, and I might raise that as a red flag, except I have been in her position before because I find it hard to find the right people to vibe with so I can't fault her there. The way she talked made it seem like she just wants the best for people but honestly nobody is perfect and I wouldn't doubt that she did some things that upset people. But like I said, if she gives her side of the story it might be more understandable.

here's what people can look for a wig to not look bad:
-not super shiny
-don't cut the bangs to bluntly where it's all uneven
-make sure the hair frames the face like your real hair (no one would walk around with a long bang pinned to the side)
-make sure real hair is concealed perfectly and evenly under the wig.

I want to know, what is the point of "outing" someone anonymously? If you see someone interacting with a person that is dangerous, message that person and let them know personally of your experience. I suppose this is a result of "cancel culture" but at least if you're trying to cancel someone, you would post receipts and not be on anon. You have no credibility if you're anon.

A lot of people will use their relationship as a valid reason to say someone is lying. Just because one person has a good relationship with someone doesn’t mean that person is a good person to everyone. I also think it’s the same reason we have this thread. People are afraid to go face to face because of backlash. It’s easier to not have your name attached when you don’t know what will happen.

Ironically in the face of all this, I've seen all the cosidols trying to sweep this under the rug and promote positivity while the non cosidols are actually calling out toxic positivity. I used to roll my eyes at 4chans cosidol bashing but it seems like you guys are onto something.

I don't see how there's irony in this happening since most of the drama is caused by cosplayers and/or cosplayers who try to be "original" idols but still have the mindset of a cosidol. Original idols tend to stay in their lane and just focus on making their content for the most part, so of course they won't stand for needless drama

Exactly. These accounts were made and it’s been targeting the dancing cosplayers (I won’t call them idols. They aren’t idols.) for now. Original idols are far too caught up in our own shit and burning out to be worried about some petty drama.
This is why a clear line needs to be set on what an idol is because cosplayers bring nothing but headaches, drama and shit.

I really wish OIC could comeback or rebrand with stricter guidelines. If cosidols want to be in the OIC, there should be tighter restrictions on them joining. Dig your heels in when they start throwing a shitfit instead of buckling and letting them in. It's not like there aren't untalented cosplay groups, but I don't want to share space with a bunch of flash in the pan lovelive groups full of whiny teenagers.

The only reason they're able to make the community look bad is because we keep trying to bend over backwards in the name of "not wanting drama". I'm going to put this into perspective since unfortunately it just seems like people haven't pieced this together already. Now put yourself in my shoes for just a weeeee moment: imagine last year being the target of slander and vendetta on top of trying to deal with issues from my own idol activities and balancing my own personal well being. And not only I have dealt with this, but so many people in the community have faced this issue as well. Do you think that after dealing with such backlash someone would ever be motivated to provide for the community ever again? No, because it's such a huge struggle to trust you guys out there without having the fear of being taken advantage of again.

I made OIC out of the love and passion I have for idols and when that one thing is tainted to me due some bullshit like "aww boo hoo my ego is hurt because im not included" or "waaaaaa i didn't get my way pls coddle me" when literally all I've been repeating ad naseum to people is: work hard and try to put in the effort, that's it. I don't think handing participation trophies for people just breathing is fair. And if I come off elitist oh well. Some of us actually want the true idol experience and they want to go somewhere with this.

It was so annoying trying to placate these kinds of people because guess what? I TRIED incorporating cosplayers, I TRIED to make it inclusive due to the complaints, and even with my efforts in trying to educate others about real Japanese Pop Idol culture, I was STILL met with backlash. What. do. you. want. from. me. LOL

I'm not doing this to gain some moral high ground here. I'm helping others because I don't want any idols to face the same kinds of problems I had as I first started getting into doing this. I legit care about people but it makes it really hard for me to care when people are fixated on blaming others and causing drama rather than finding solutions and supporting one another. (cont.)

>> No.10390686

And this is not stuff limited to /cgl, these same problems translate over to real life as well. How can anyone have the willpower to even want to contribute to the community let alone even want to continue being an idol in the first place from dealing with that? Some of y'all clowns, it's a joke how petty this community can be. Sometimes you can't please anyone no matter what you do haha

Just like >>10390618 says, I need your help. A community isn't something that should be run alone, it's a team effort. I too am just as frustrated with myself that I couldn't get things up and running as fast as I wanted to. It was actually very irritating for me to do basic daily tasks and take care of myself though I needed time to heal. As much as I seriously hate admitting that I have mental health issues, this bullshit traumatized me. I was burnt out and dealing with hallucinations and psychosis every single day (even now), it's not fun and I don't wish this on anyone.

Aaaaaanyway, enough of the sob story from me because I ain't here trying to fish pity points (mmm yessss also watch how whatever I say or do is going to be convoluted and twisted to your narrative... deeeeelicious). Let this be an example of how NOT to act when facing drama with others in the community. Next time let's be smart about it. If anyone has a problem, don't be a coward and throw a bitch fit anonymously expecting it to magically go away - instead do something about it. Be a civil human being and communicate your issues in person. Don't use your anxiety and mental illness as a crutch. Work towards improving yourself instead of tearing other people apart. Participate in your community. Take criticism in stride and focus on using that to strengthen your skills instead of being bitter about it. Yada yada yada you get the deal.

Have you engaged in or started discussion to keep activity level up? Have you posed ideas or suggestions to staff/admin that would be beneficial for all members? There was a discussion in the server two days ago and maybe 5 people participated? Do you guys think you or others magically participate more when it's revamped? Congrats on your revolutionary observation. Just like any hobby that takes some sort of skill or talent, people are going to get competitive and critical. It's more than likely people take this seriously because they want to. This is something they're passionate about and want to see get better. Rarely do people comment on something just to purely hate. Stellure got TONS of shit for the skill and quality they lacked but yet people loved them at the same time because they wanted to see them do better and there was nothing like them before. Are there people with big heads in this community that are totally unwarranted? Yes absolutely. As is with anything. Most idols want to even BE idols because they want to feel special. But in due time, the participants who are actually talented and innovative will outlive the ones who aren't and are only doing this for pure self-centered reason without any effort behind it. So honestly, stop trying to fight 'sense' into people because it's not going to stick. Focus on yourself.
