Some notes: Your stars replenish 1 per minute, and your maximum amount of stars increases as you level up. The gift icon allows you to spend "coins" to send virtual "gifts" that also count towards Paida's rank. Maybe medically tone deaf, or at least outside the spectrum of normal pitch detection and reproduction... basically I have a friend who wants to try making idol content but is tone deaf. She can dance well enough and even has a pleasant enough natural voice, but as far as I can tell people usually need professional help/training to overcome it. It depends how bad it is I would assume. But they can look up tips and tricks to help them find the right notes. They will just have to train themselves a lot. It's not impossible, just will take them a bit longer. If it's significantly difficult for them but they have good rhythm, then a rapper might be a good option for them. Or if they are in a group they can stick to singing only when accompanied by another singer so they have a pitch example to follow with. I'm not an expert by any means, but that's what I've gathered from my experience when working with someone like that.

Not directed at you necessarily anon, but this is what bothers me the most about tone deaf idols - they have no idea how awful they usually sound. I even know one who played an instrument but was still unable to pitch her own voice. On one hand, you can't blame them for something they can't comprehend, but on the other hand I find tone deaf singing a total earsore and don't see how anyone can support them.

From what I've observed, cosidols often see each other as direct competition, usually when they are from the same series, and the drama arises from this. They'll pick apart other cosplayers' costumes, dancing, and image because it helps to inflate their own self worth. Original idols are more likely to understand that they each need to find their own niche/audience rather than competing for fans from a pool of weebs. But they can struggle to find an image and musical style that actually has wide appeal.

If cosidols are a problem, people need to speak up when they throw shit fits. Where was all this talk when I saw so many cosidols throw tantrums in OIC? The main staff was left to dealing with them alone. Not a single person spoke up alongside the staff. We can't expect the staff to make changes in the community by themselves. They burned themselves out trying to carry the quiet dead weight. Thats how we stopped getting updates.

We spoke up and immediately got silenced by staff and cosidols. Idk if you were there, but when the discussion was had, the cosidols threw and absolute shit fit, and when the original idols tried to speak up, staff shut us down and said we were approaching bullying levels of “gatekeeping”, since LL and Idolm@ster is how some people get into the idol scene.

You’re both kind of wrong? If anything, staff of OIC led the whole “no cosidols”. OIC staff from day one said they wouldn’t allow cosidols and they don’t see cosidols as idols. Pretty sure Julily made a whole post about idols and had a section on how cosidols aren’t idols. The OIC comm was accused of gatekeeping, not admins. Those who are in real idol groups and cosidol groups understood. The ones in just cosidol caused a fit.

Here's something that I have noticed: During the time the community started dying down, I was hit with a wave of drama not only on here but also behind the scenes while I was dealing with AmbiFlora. Bringing up the point >>10376299 addressed, I can confirm that even after the dust settled that not only I was dealing with those types of problems but the entire idol community as a collective experienced similar types of drama. Where would this cycle around? The loss of overall trust with one another due to said drama. 2019 was not only a rough year for not only me but for us as a collective; staff and community members alike on all sides - cosidol or not. Now imagine the toll on people's psyche's dealing with that immense amount of tension, it would be really hard for people to have the will power to build a strong rapport with those within the community thus the division split even further.

Of course, this is an explanation, not an excuse. Though by taking what I stated into consideration, what would be there for OIC to update? Most we did was separate into 2 servers: OIC Regular & OIC Lite, consolidated channels in the discord server, and moderated what we could. It would be difficult to run a community in the first place when more and more people started talking less in said discord servers. Also as far as our Facebook goes, topics about general Overseas Idol talk died down with it and the most that was posted in the group was self-promotion. Obviously, my wording during that time was heated so I asked some people to help me reword my article (I'm taking the time now to still work on my delivery). Julily/Calliope and Rhian (self-titled character) both left Vivacu today. Julily I half expected when she announced her graduation last year, but I didn’t expect her to go so soon. Rhian was a surprise as she was the one who started it with San. There’s no word yet on whether or not they’ll be recast or the characters retired and replaced with new ones.

That marks 4 lineup changes since the group’s announcement since almost 2 years ago (July 2018), the first being Ritsu (original voice of Lara) and the second being Haru (the original voice of Hitomi). Funnily enough, Haru was never announced to have left as far as I remember. It just kind of happened.

With all this said and the group only having one song, I’m really interested to see what they do next. There’s very few updates from the group or the progress, so I hope everything is going smoothly.

Agreed. It seemed like a stress reaction to not meeting your own expectations for yourself, which can be incredibly crushing to deal with. Being in this hobby means balancing both the desire to get better and better with the need to take care of yourself and rest. Everyone repeats the mantra "this is a hobby, we need to be patient with ourselves and live our real lives too" but is bad at following it themselves. It's a little bit of everything, honestly. You have to not only be talented, but have the discipline and drive to refine that talent and improve the spots you're lacking in. What people need to get on this level is passion for art and creation. A lot of people doing this are doing is for friendship, popularity, not about music or expressing an idea or having a real passion for music. That's the main thing people lack.

I agree with the anons saying people are spoiled for thinking you need money to be good. It takes creativity and drive. If you have internet, you can learn anything. Granted, having a teacher in front of you will help numerously, but there are so many people I've seen doing this claiming to have had background in musical theater and such and such but still look awkward dancing to idol dances.

Doing idol things because you want friends is what causes all this drama. When you have people working in a group who want to put on a good show vs people who just want friends, the person who just wants to be friends will get offended when the person who wants to put on a good show takes things seriously and tells the other all the things they need to improve to get better.

Ultimately, people's motives, lack of creativity with thinking outside of the box, and lack of self awareness is what needs to be fixed to get on a higher level.

I agree. It was an awkward choice to do at the same time. It would be different if it was a situation where they live streamed reacting to videos that people asked them to react to. That would be a smart segment for them to do in the future. But, they chose a live idol fest hosted by a group that obviously are young inexperienced weebs. The submissions truly were some of the most underwhelming videos I've ever seen in my entire life and I have no idea how some of these people could think submitting something like THAT would be acceptable to make people sit through. As much as I personally dislike Julily, the event would have been better run by someone like her. Living in the US, you just get so used to seeing the same mid to low tier groups that all do the same song and barely care about doing their hair that seeing underappreciated original idols that actually put in the effort to look and act like idols is like a breath of fresh air. Agreed. Although I can see why people found their reactions awkward, Julily and Nyaru would actually be able to put on a decent virtual event like this, and really set a clear expectation of the quality of entries.

Also really liked Ayumi on the second day, she had some of the best tuning of the singers and was maybe dancing too. Her, Cherry and Katie are the sort of acts I would want because they bothered to film something just for the event. Cherry's felt like a karaoke session but it was hype and showed her versatility well.
I know groups can't do this so it was alright to have reused dance covers or masquerade performances (not that all of them were good quality).

I haven't heard of Shining Idol Project before, they just look like low tier cosplayers? Are they quality in their performances? Do they sing? I literally don't see anything or there that makes them qualified to critique others in an organized, public fashion like this. At least ChiRi has judged actual competitions and are experienced enough to offer critique, and I'm sure others who participated were also more qualified than this group.

Besides, if I see something labeled as a "festival" and not a competition, I'm not going to assume the hosts will be offering critique. Were there guidelines for the judging? Were the participants notified that the videos they sent in would be judged? Was there an avenue for the participants to receive private, personalized feedback so they could improve?

Not that I don't like constructive criticism (I think it's absolutely essential to improving) but the idea of a group of inexperienced nobodies branding their event as a "festival" and then shit talking the people who participate as a form of "criticism" really rubs me the wrong way.

So I would need some more evidence on who she bullied and how. I don't think handing participation trophies for people just breathing is fair. And if I come off elitist oh well. Some of us actually want the true idol experience and they want to go somewhere with this.

It was so annoying trying to placate these kinds of people because guess what? I TRIED incorporating cosplayers, I TRIED to make it inclusive due to the complaints, and even with my efforts in trying to educate others about real Japanese Pop Idol culture, I was STILL met with backlash. OIC has been operating fine in the main discord server, and it's really just the public stuff like their sns and website that became inactive.
I was only seeing one admin working for the longest while without any staff help, and there have only been internal changes so far. She's been doing a lot on her own to try to keep it a little bit fresh as far as the main server's concerned. At this point they took in a few new staff members and the full admin team is back so I'd wager we'll see more by the end of this month or early June? That's what it seems from the inside at least

The Juggling Party Idols cover is... huh. I like the decorating and the setup, but the dancing itself is annoying me. The original dance has so much sharpness and life and flow to it, and the girls here just don't... commit to their dance moves. Look, I love idols and promoting interest in Japanese idol culture as much as the next person, and I’m glad that there are other people passionate about it. A lot of y’all just take this shit waaaay too seriously. This shit isn’t that deep. If you get so high-strung over this stuff, please stop and reevaluate. For your own sake and for the sake of those around you. That goes for both the less-than-mediocre cosplay “idols” that think they’re hot shit even though they’re unoriginal as fuck— and and the original “idols” who seem to prioritize this over their own well-being for who knows what reason.

I don’t have any kind of solution or advice to offer, except for to pipe down just a little bit.

Congrats on your revolutionary observation. Just like any hobby that takes some sort of skill or talent, people are going to get competitive and critical. It's more than likely people take this seriously because they want to. This is something they're passionate about and want to see get better. Rarely do people comment on something just to purely hate. Stellure got TONS of shit for the skill and quality they lacked but yet people loved them at the same time because they wanted to see them do better and there was nothing like them before. Are there people with big heads in this community that are totally unwarranted? Yes absolutely. As is with anything. Most idols want to even BE idols because they want to feel special. But in due time, the participants who are actually talented and innovative will outlive the ones who aren't and are only doing this for pure self-centered reason without any effort behind it. Damn, I just came to 4chan to find some idols to watch, but I just find this drama instead. I have never been in the idol community, but I have friends who are and this is just... sad. She tells you she has been bullied to the point of trauma, and y'all just tell her to shut up and stop taking herself so seriously? Like this is exactly what bullying and toxicity is. And so what if people want to make being an idol a career? It's just another form of musician/artist, just let them be if they're not hurting anyone. Why is it so hard to let people live their lives if it makes them happy and isn't harmful? Why do you have to attack someone who is just trying to achieve their dreams? That just reeks of jealousy and insecurity to me. Just looking at these replies makes me understand that Julily was only speaking the truth of how toxic this community is. While I agree making she shouldn't have replied so in-depth to a thoughtless comment, that doesn't give you keyboard warriors a right to attack her like that.
