>Friends who are completely content with sitting & drinking in the room the entire time

Now, don't get me wrong - I'm ALL about room parties, but God dammit. I'm one of the only people in my group that really gets into cosplaying. I like being among the people, getting in pictures, going to ~2 panels a day. I participated in my first photoshoot a few months ago and had to go alone; I'm as extroverted as they come, but that was still pretty tough. Meanwhile, my folks hung behind and did nothing during the day.

I know the feel of boring roommates, mine usually either just hang in the room, or buy shit in the dealers room and go to sleep by 10:30.

Not really annoying, just disheartening:
Absolutely none of my friends wants to go to any cons with me.
While going alone isn't the end of the world for me being at a con with a group of friends who share your interests sounds so fun I almost get a bit jealous when i read about some of the stories online.

Whenever I get to a hotel before noon I'm usually able to check in early. It helps to be a rewards member for most hotel chains cause they tend to be a bit more forgiving for someone who seems 'loyal' to the brand. The only time I haven't been able to check in early has been because housekeeping isn't finished and that usually only happens at massive hotels with hundreds of rooms. Try it next time!

>>10335604
My usual con crowd is always done by 5pm and it wears me out because they just want to get photos and then eat and retire. Like damn, I haven't been to a panel I haven't hosted in ten years, let me be social. It's doubly shitty when we rode to the con together and I'm definitely not letting them take my car home.

My personal peeve is that contests take up your entire day. You're lucky if you get an hour between judging and check-in to go eat. My tits are always hurting, I'm always tired of carrying whatever prop, etc. I know that's entirely my own fault but I wish there was a more streamlined way of doing prejudging+contest without having to be awake and in cosplay for fifteen hours or whatever.

I also can't fucking stand the guys that walk around con centers blasting music from a speaker or boombox. It's not 2006 anymore, y'all, shut the hell up. I've seen cons say that it's against the rules these days but it never fails that I walk past someone still playing their animu Nightcore remixes as they walk through a crowd.

Also not a fan of people who wear a stereo and play loud music in the halls before 9pm. I get they’re probably hyped for the dance later but I wanna be able to hear my friends talking.

Speaking of dances. I never go because I know so many people use it as an excuse to get high on whatever substance and I genuinely want nothing to do with that shit. Every time it was: eat breakfast included with the room, come back to the room, dick around on their laptop or console/handheld the entire time. They MIGHT walk around the dealer hall once assuming they can borrow a badge for some hours.

I didn't care till it was always the same shit in the room "man this con sucks I heard on /cgl/ <dumb_shit>, that's fucking stupid", possibly drink if there was free booze and mixer. I think a lot of it has to do with being that a lot of the /cgl/'s social interactions that isn't forced by work comes from convention meetups, and their social skills are horrid.

One common thing I found with all of those traits from my time rooming with /cgl/ is that people who were the worst often worked part time living at home or never been on their own outside the home. Mindsets change a lot and people tend to loosen up after they realize the world moves regardless of them and their dumb bullshit. I've also noticed the drama levels and stuff are non existent with gulls who work fulltime vs. those who don't to where it's night and day.

People i meet who also do fulltime work, know what bills are, and attend cons often are chill, never care what others do so long as not affecting others, and generally treat the weekend like a vacation. The ones that start shit are almost always college age level or fresh out of college not with a job yet(so most gulls) and don't understand anything. I know that sounds boomer but I started working after HS to push myself through community college and still in my mid 20's so stuck in that limbo age.

Can't help but just laugh and walk away to most of the insignificant shit that cgl makes being the dooms day shit, when nothing goes on but it's just their short time of the year for social shit.

Most con threads and cgl meetups often have some discord attached to them, or discord group that stays in touch. It's fairly normal now to where cgl and discords are going to overlap a great deal.

Pure cgl drama often comes from related sources, it's rare any specific posting about drama that could be used to determine an exact person is posted here. It's always been something, kik/facebook/snapchat/twitter/tumblr/google doc shit/etc, dunno why would wouldn't understand that if you've been on cgl for any length of time. Other than "I meet up with my known friends who also do cgl" that doesn't mean much, if something is posted on cgl for a meetup, people will go to it, thus a /cgl/ meetup. You're horribly misusing the term crossborder since the meaning is dead to everyone outside the ita community or very small group of known friends at this point. Which, if you are stating that small controlled group of friends = cgl meetup, nah.

> if you're in some public server with hundreds of people
Get a load of this anon right here. The largest cgl server I know has 130 members, that's only because the channel discusses about 5-7 cons at any given time for their area.

>that isn't where the proper room parties and meets are taking place.
What fucking standard are you using for this other than "it's not true cgl unless my small group"? I went to acen one year, cgl thread "meetup down stairs" same shit was posted in the discord, and sure enough it was all cgl people.

The only people I know who only do /cgl/ at this point are the ita community. /p/ is a good resource for anyone who is into photography that may also happen to go to cons and enjoy cosplay, uh oh by that standard I could be a "crossboarder!". That term is completely dead to anyone outside groups that want to sniff their own farts and talk about "Sigh remember when cons were about true anime? Ive attended too many panels that are being run by people who SO CLEARLY know nothing about what they’re presenting on. Seriously, how hard can it be to ask for some portfolios/links to cosplay pages/what have you? To make things even worse, I’ve been seeing a trend of cons waiting until a few days before the con to accept panels, release the schedule, approve artist alley tables, etc. Tons of employers require 2 weeks notice for time off requests, it’s seriously so disrespectful to the people offering their time to the event and Or sucks noticing how many people have to drop out just because they weren’t given enough advance notice to rearrange their schedules.

Not all white people in America are British, the vast majority alive today are from families who had nothing to do with colonization, and most of these families immigrated after the initial colonization. This sentence does not contest whether America was colonized. If it contests the colonization of anywhere, it’s Africa, which obviously experienced colonization as well. The remainder of that comment does not contest American colonization either. I sincerely do not see where you are getting the idea that anyone has denied America was colonized.

>At no point did I say individual people were bad for existing. I'm saying that the fact that white people still exist on colonized land is an issue.
What do you expect these people to do? They live on the land they were born in, they can’t go to wherever in Europe their family came from since they likely don’t even speak the language.

>Wet'suwet'en
I don’t keep up with issues in Canada since I don’t live there, but I’m aware that the Canadian government does not have a good track record of treating indigenous people kindly; nor does the USA. >passive-aggressive shit statements from 2 of them about "yeah real fun watching you get all those pictures" or "real celeb at this con, must be great..."

10/10 way to grind my gears, worst of all is that their time out of the room mostly consisted of food, checking the vendor hall, walking past a shoot,or seeing the dj for 5 whopping minutes.

This shit happens in "normie" bars and clubs as well. Everybody's "stuntin' for the gram" instead of having fun.

always, fucking always
>WTF ANON ARE YOU <DOING COMPLETE NORMAL SHIT HERE> IN JAPAN? THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU DO!
>ask them who told them that in Japan, or how long they've worked there
it's almost always:
"Oh well, I haven't been to japan yet but it's just common sense because of (insert feel good weeb youtube blogger shit here) and such".

I think at cons I should just tell people I go to korea but K fags are even more annoying I feel

People who charge full room rate for floor space at conventions, and not even big ones like AX. No I'm not talking about like, you get a roll away or shit I mean ur ass is sleeping on the floor.

Floor space should not be the same price as a bed, it's literally floor space it should not be full price

I understand like for huge cons, comiket/ax/CC/dragon con. Hotels are super up there so sometimes it's "welp either take a hike or pay up" but tons of people in /cgl. I've roomed with charge same rates as bed.

One time I offered 75 for the weekend to some anon, rate was 125/weekend, offering floor space. We agreed to that, came back after the con asking me for the other 50 and was like "yeah that's the room rate". Or they straight up just go "it's same as beds lol"

This has happened multiple times, ALA/Fanime/AX as well as some other LA cons

I kinda sorta understand this one. Whoever's name is on the room is using the full price per person as a hedge to cover the room costs just in case of any last minute bailouts.

>> No.10349898

>>10349893
I'm on board with you on this one, but if everyone shows up you shouldn't charge full rates. When I sell floor space for cons I do, it 50% a bed cost. If you do pay full price and everyone shows up I refund or say "it's pizza/booze money for the room then".

I get that some stuff fucks up, but if you are secured in rooms and shit then sell floor space for a full price. Nah. fuck you

I can completely relate, anon. However on the using an alias instead of the name, it really helps to minimize dealing with creepy people.

But yes, everything has been reduced to superficial online interaction.

where i'm from, gate keepers in cosplay isn't really a thing anymore. Younger cosplayers would rather enjoy taking pictures or generally instagramming rather than focusing on being a "top notch cosplayer" and honestly it isn't so bad.
