I was supposed to start working on my costume in December for June, but I got a switch with my boyfriend and have spent every free minute with it during my time with it. Some major life shit has been eating up half my time and I spent the rest of it with that siren of a console. I only have two weeks left of vacation before my last semester of school starts again. I work during the summer and have little gremlin siblings to take care of otherwise. I didn't expect to finish in one week, but I feel like I've squirreled away a good chunk of my time already. This is a bad omen. It's supposed to be an easy costume. Please, 2020 be gentle upon me.

What are you working on, op?

Like a month and a half and I have close to nothing done... I really hope I pull through

I stopped con crunching last year, and it’s made cosplaying feel different for me. I used to pump a majority of the cosplay out in 2 weeks. The quality took a hit but I always had it done. Now I just kinda go at my own pace. I feel a lot more happier with my work now, but not having any urgency really makes it hard to work on it. It’s always this “I’ll do it later” attitude that lead to con crunching in the first place. I never considered buying cosplay till this year simply because I don’t have anything that’s new.
You win some, you lose some, I guess?

OP here, I'm remaking some old props and making 3 new cosplays this year.
I need to have my props and 1 cosplay done by late Feb, second cosplay done by march (plus a cosplay I'm making for a friend for the same con, and the cosplay includes props), and the 3rd cosplay by may.

Propmaking is a cruel mistress but other than that the cosplays themselves should be relatively easy, weightloss is my biggest worry.

Oh good lord, rest your soul anon.

>I'm making for a friend for the same con, and the cosplay includes props
Reading that made my heart clench for you. I wish you the best of luck, anon. I wouldn't want to be in your shoes.

>weightloss is my biggest worry.
Hard same. The holiday season gave me 3 inches to my waistline. It shouldn't be too hard to lose, but I'm afraid that some big upcoming life things might push me to stress eat more than I'm chipping away. Let's both strive to reach our goals!

I know exactly how you feel. It's weird when you miss premature deadlines that you set for yourself because when you look at how much time you have left, there's plenty, but if you keep pushing off these deadlines then you can end up crunching anyway.

>> No.10318560

>>10318206
Thankfully most of the cosplays I'm making this year are fairly easy, the only ones that will require any real work are the one I'm remaking right now and the one I'm making for a friend that has to be done by march.
>weightloss
Let's crush it! I'm 8lbs to go

I may or may not have added another costume in addition to Hawks, Future/time skip Edelgard, and Rose the hat I need done before katsucon. I have a week and a half before I go back to campus, and after classes start there’s no way I’ll have time (or space) to finish them.
>Hawks: redo parts of jacket and finish feathering and painting wings. Make small pair of wings for more casual con-walking experience.
>Edelgard: add embellishments to dress, make shoes, finish prop, style wig.
>Rose the hat: ignore the fact that no one will recognize you and think you’re just a weird nerd in a top hat
Luckily the last/most recent cosplay is Hades from Lore Olympus so it’s literally just a suit and face paint. I’ll also only be doing it if my friend will cosplay Persephone, and she has a habit of bailing.
Also, having a graduate stipend but no classes atm means winter break has been 75% cosplay, 20% doing my own research that isn’t for a class project, and 5% doing absolutely nothing. It’s been great

I had to unfollow this foul hippie bitch who hangs around with our cos-group after she posted an IG story with pics of her period diarrhea. (She thought it was cool that she pooped red and green on Christmas.)

Well today our mutual friend reamed me, saying I made her cry and I'm worried I'll get my ass dumped from the crew. The diarrhea bitch isn't even a cosplayer.

>Hows the crunch going, anons?
So far its manageable, I'm sure that will change soon.
>How much time do you have?
~60 days til Contest 1
~6 weeks after that is Contest 2
>How much are you trying to accomplish?
Contest 1 is a duo cosplay build, about 20% done so far. Pretty complicated garments, using LEDs for the first time plus like 3 new techniques. Just hitting my stride on productivity now
Contest 2 is an armor build that I started a little bit already but 85% of it will be done within 6 weeks. I'm not concerned about it at all desu, armor is a strength for me
>How bad do you wanna die rn
Still fresh as a daisy but I havent started making the crinoline cage or ballgown for the first contest yet. I shall yearn for death's sweet release soon enough.

I don't con crunch or set hard deadlines, but I still easily find the motivation to work on stuff. You should just set "deadlines"/goals for yourself (even if they aren't hard deadlines) to help motivate you

For me another good motivator is how excited I am to start my next costume. But then I force myself to finish what I'm working on first. Planning groups helps too, everyone can check in and see each other's progress

Currently working on a ball gown with my limited sewing experience! Finished up mock ups of the corset top yesterday so I'm good to actually begin construction on the real deal with less than a month until the con. Not really crunching but I'm excited to finish my first gown regardless

Gotta start working on a outfit, which admittedly isn't too difficult, but I am in the middle of a move. That sucks the energy out of me and the feeling of "do I really want to do this character?"
I have the materials and a (crappy) prop, I just really need to sit down and get to it. I got roughly a month and a half till the con.

Kinda, I got the pieces of the outfit cut out but I have to pack away my thread and machine, I found out that the place I am moving to is under renovation and I can't access the boxes that I left there. So I am basically waiting for a month to go by. Looking at the calendar I got a week before the event, if I really put my mind on it I can get it done, but it's definitely a squeeze. This is one of the reasons why I don't really like doing group costumes, because of things like this Happening

Since the trims I ordered for my original plan for my next con won't be here in time thanks to LNY, I decided the other day to switch my plans to a dream costume, and that it's an impressive enough build to enter into the big comp at said con.

What I didn't realise, is that since the con got pushed forward a month, instead of having a whole month to work on this before applications close, I only have 5 days to get as much done as possible. The con itself isn't until March so I'm not too stressed about getting the whole thing done in time, it's just a mild pain that I didn't realise how late it had gotten.

The application requires 3 photos of progress to prove that you are actually working on something and have some level of crafting skill, I just think it'd be a bit of a faux pas to submit photos of my pattern drafting and mockups when other people have been working on their comp pieces for weeks already.
