Wardrobe season is almost upon us gulls! It seems like it's a bit of a dying tradition, but surely there's still some of participating this year.

>Have you gotten started?
>Favorite wardrobes from last year? Any you're looking forward to/hoping for?
>Best place for posting?
>Setups? Photographing everything or just the main pieces?
>Why is it dying?
I know many of us liking looking at the dresses and with the current obsession with flexing, you'd think more people would join in lol.

>If you set goals last year, did you achieve them?
>Those that have done posts on multiple years, have you noticed any trends?
For instance, I went back to look at past years and noticed that when I first started out I bought more dresses during the year because I was just eager to own a lot but ended up selling most of them. This past year I only bought six dresses but they're dresses that I absolutely love and won't be selling any time soon.

FFFFFFF I can't believe we're halfway through January.

>Favorite wardrobes from last year? Any you're looking forward to/hoping for?
From last year I only have hennrie's post in my bookmarks. Her style is goals and hopefully she'll post an update.

>Why is it dying?
I do think we're finally abandoning LJ for good, even for wardrobe posts. It seems more lolitas have moved onto IG. I recall seeing a wardrobe challenge going around last year.

That said, I hope people will continue to share their wardrobes one way or another

Henrie's wardrobe is my inspiration too! Everything is so cohesive and she owns some gorgeous pieces too.

>Have you gotten started?
No. It shouldn't take me too long.
>Favorite wardrobes from last year? Any you're looking forward to/hoping for?
Henrire
>Best place for posting?
Probably instagram at this point
>Setups? Photographing everything or just the main pieces?
Might as well do everything since I don't own a lot. I'll just take photos with a shitty android.
>Why is it dying?
A lot of lolitas who have already done wardrobe posts in previous years might feel no need to do another if nothing much has changed in their wardrobe. Or maybe they are like me and they feel like they don't own enough to justify making a wardrobe post, but idk i might post one. Expect cctv quality when i do.

>It seems more lolitas have moved onto IG.

I honestly hate that. Either they post all of their dresses in one image/post and omit any personal stories/feelings about the dress (or worse, the names/brands) for the sake of a shorter description or they make multiple posts where they can include all of that in the description, but that's such a hassle to look through. I ended up giving up on looking for IG wardrobes last year because they just weren't fun to view.

>> No.10305655

Aye, I'm glad I'm not the only one who still looks forward to them.

>Have you gotten started?
Not yet, I'm waiting for some good light. It has been raining for 2 weeks straight and I haven't decided on what's the best way to photograph everything yet. On a dress form? On the ground? On a table or bed?

>Favorite wardrobes from last year? Any you're looking forward to/hoping for?
No clear favorites, there was a real lack of detail shots going on and a lot of those who had great wardrobes used unfavorable angles. So yeah, I'm hoping for more close-ups and pictures that show the beauty of the item!

>Best place for posting?
Not instagram, that's for sure. Imo lj and personal blogs are still the best places.

>Setups? Photographing everything or just the main pieces?
Going all out! But I think if you already made wardrobe posts before and don't want to make any changes on the setup, it makes more sense to just photograph new items.

>Why is it dying?
Platforms change, wardrobes get bigger, people get busier and/or lazier and like you said, the reason switched more to showing off what you have instead of showing details you don't get to see in most pictures. And maybe making all that effort just to flex isn't worth it anymore.

>If you set goals last year, did you achieve them?
Yes! And looking back I did a surprisingly good job at it lol. I wanted to buy less lolita in general and use the money to improve myself and create more opportunities to wear my wardrobe outside of toned down coords at work and uni. It was a really good decision, probably one of the best I made this year and my priorities changed a lot, 10/10 would recommend. Though I'm still going to break my 6 month no-buy in a week kek.

Not yet, but I've got some ideas.
>Favorite wardrobes from last year? Any you're looking forward to/hoping for?
That girl's all-black wardrobe and nocturnalia's are always my favourites, but I do remember seeing some nice posts with details pics that I loved.
>Best place for posting?
I like both LJ and personal blogs.
>Setups? Photographing everything or just the main pieces?
I REALLY need ideas for this year! I like photographing everything, but I'm tired of just laying my pieces on the floor and photographing it. I wanted some new layout ideas.
>Why is it dying?
New lolitas aren't into old traditions? I don't know, people don't own blogs anymore, and IG is boring for that.
>If you set goals last year, did you achieve them?
Yes! I bought only the necessary.

>> No.10305668

I wish there was a better place for posting wardrobe posts. LJ is dead, but a lot of other places don't have the right format. Maybe someone could create a Facebook group? Kind of like CoF, but instead everyone can share albums with all their pieces. The platform is a lot more active, and it's a nice way to have everything in one place, unlike something like IG or personal blogs.

>I haven't decided on what's the best way to photograph everything yet. On a dress form? On the ground? On a table or bed?
I personally prefer dress form images because it gives a better idea of how a piece looks when worn and that's super handy but flatlays are really good for showcasing prints, if your wardrobe has more of those.

Ophelia’s, it was stunning, I would love to do one like hers as for me it’s the perfect format but I wouldn’t want her to feel I was copying her and i’m not very advanced in editing my photos yet so we will see
>Any you're looking forward to/hoping for?
Ophelia’s again assuming she does another, and seeing the posts as they come out and being a part of it this year
>Best place for posting?
Not sure, will probably go with LJ and or instagram though I don’t have a LJ account yet and I’m not sure how to use it
>Setups? Photographing everything or just the main pieces?
Everything, including bags, shoes, and accessories
>Why is it dying?
I’m not sure that the fashion is so much of a lifestyle as it used to be, but I don’t have enough experience to say for sure, hosting issues probably is the main issue and social medias aren’t really made for long-form posts anymore

I’m really looking forward to participating this year, as well would someone be able to link me the post by hennrie as i’d love to see it

The thing about a CoF group is that it would only be alive during the wardrobe season, so if people aren't regularly using it, I feel like it's more likely to die out.
Honestly the Lolita Amino would be perfect (it's already got a decent user-base and is relatively active) but all of Amino just feels so juvenile and the "wikis" people have posted of their wardrobes tend to just be stock images.

>Best place for posting?
Lj is best.
>Setups? Photographing everything or just the main pieces?
I did my first wardrobe post 9 years ago. Back then I took pictures of everything, but in recent years as my wardrobe grew larger I switched to main pieces only.
>Why is it dying?
The widespread of the smartphone contributed to its decline. Lj is not phone friendly and people in general became too lazy to use text based formats as it takes a long time to prepare posts, time to read and time to reply. Attentionspans are just shorter these days. People these days are used to the fast post fast reward system. First tumblr popped up and now it's IG which made posting possbile in just a few seconds/clicks and you can just click like instead of having to think about a way to phrase a nice comment.
>If you set goals last year, did you achieve them?
Yes, I did. My goal was to downsize and sell off the pieces I don't wear anymore in favour of more casual daily wear.
>Those that have done posts on multiple years, have you noticed any trends?
OTT sweet is dead. Gothic used to have a decline in popularity but it's having a comeback.

One of my favourite thing about wardrobe posts is also the captions. Sometimes when I’m thinking about buying a dress I’ll look it up and come to a wardrobe post where someone has it and comments on something particular about it, like its fit or a small detail they love, that usually helps me make a decision about purchasing. It’s not easy to search Instagram for content like that, and most instagram wardrobe posters don’t bother to say anything about each main piece.

really unique, dedicated to showing off only the multiples of this one dress this person owns. created graphics, nice photography, detail closeups, and snippets of the differences between each iteration of the dress

>gwenchan - https://egl.livejournal.com/20148701.html
the lighting, from above and behind makes the dresses look almost dreamy. would be really good for someone with a lot of "celestial" sort of dresses, pieces with "floaty" fabrics like chiffon or tulle, or pastels.

A lot of us in the fashion for a decade + have already lovingly posted in the past. Its a lot of time and energy to post, then the inevitable bitching over a large wardrobe. Mines pretty boring, a lot of solids and the same style of older dresses in different colours. No prints after 2013, am not into the chiffon dresses, only own the one. Personally I did the challenge on instagram last year with my favourites and don't feel my wardrobe needs to be catalogued, I bought a property and will be fixing it up over the next 2-3 years, only bought 2 main pieces this year and some shoes just there in the bodyline sale to replace the ones I have.

I actually like them. The handmade stuff is nice when you can see the progression of how bad they were at the start and then get better after a couple of years (so, I'd give this one another few years to ferment before calling it bad).

There's always someone interested in big wardrobes, if nothing else apparently some anons like to count main pieces and compare who has the biggest wardrobe, who has the biggest and most cohesive wardrobe, who has the biggest wardrobe that's never worn, and so on.

The challenge would actually be to present it in a way that doesn't seem to dragged out, too random, or too chaotic. The smaller wardrobes can get away with rambling on about everything but the bigger wardrobes seem to do much better when you give some thought to grouping the items together and thinking how to present them as an interesting group of objects rather than a listing of 100 dresses.

She looks really good as a blonde & the volume of this wig is also more flattering, Her natural hair lacks volume at the roots sadly.

i agree with anon, it has a Lady from lady and the tramp shape going on that's kinda awkward. I think when they say bad wig they might mean extensions, like it's thin on top and bottom but has an odd poof in the middle

Her hair has what looks like a lot of build-up, either from hard water, product, or body oils (probably a combo of all three.)
It leaves your hair with no volume on top, and all the volume you do get is in the middle because of your natural curls. You can also see her curls are separating and clumping, also a result of build-up as the hair follicles are coated and repelling from each other.
Curly girls are just unfortunately more prone to build-up. She should do a clarifying treatment, then minimize her use of non-washable silicones, and treat her hard water if she does have it (and since she's an American, that's very likely.)

Any recommendations for clarifying treatments? I have a similar problem.

I don't wanna be a dick, but I've been working on learning how to maintain my curly hair for about 12 years now. Her hair looks very much like my hair when I fall into a lull of not caring for it properly or when conditions are really really unfavourable (super dry air, haven't had it cut recently enough etc).

>>10327595
is basically correct although a bad cut and bad drying techniques can also lead to that kind of lank, triangular look. It can really help to get more volume and more defined curls if you use a diffuser with your head flipped over and/or bundle up wet curls in a t-shirt so gravity isn't pulling them down while they're wet and heavy. Silicone-free gels also help with curl definition and you can't tell there's any product once the hair is dry.

I could go on but tldr; she could have really awesome looking hair with a few changes.

Any strong shampoo with no silicones in it should do. You can usually tell at a glance what will work because it'll be clear and gooey rather than opaque/milky and shiny-smooth. Ingredients list at the back should list nothing from:

https://www.curlsbot.com/curly-girl-ingredient-list/

with the exception of the sulfate list. Sulfates are fine if you're doing a one-time clarifying wash.

If you have curls, follow up with a good silicone-free conditioner (also amazing for detangling). I like the coconut Tresemme one labelled "silicone free". I think it's called "nourish and replenish" or something.

underwhelming, but i can't talk because january was rough for me so i didn't get my wardrobe done. i think wardrobe posts should be moved to a transition season like spring or fall. not only is the light better but people aren't hit with the SAD as much in both north and south hemispheres.

>> No.10336252

>>10336193
Yeah the lack of light made it take a really long time to get mine done. So much colour correction to do when you're taking pics in the evening and your light source is yellow overhead bulbs.

My favourites are simply layouts on bed/floor, I think that feels the cutest (although Ophelia's was gorgeous, editing that is too much for most other people including myself lol)
I understand that nowadays youtube is the number 1 site, so many feel as if they have to switch to using that but god, those videos that were linked here were so painful to watch. They give me akward teen in 2007 vibes - only with adult women in 2020. If you want to post your face to the internet, think about what you want to say/do and please don't pretend to be innovate/quirky/funny if you're simply not.
Tyler's was also insane, after a while it started to feel like on repeat. Sorry but no person needs 69 pastel dresses.

>> No.10336351

>>10336315
Gotta disagree on the switch to Youtube, I counted less than 10 wardrobe videos on there this year.
>it started to feel like on repeat
This though. Not specific to Tyler but I'm so sick of the all-pastel-AP wardrobes, and somehow these girls are always the ones that are more likely to post. AP wardrobes in muted tones or bright reds and blues would be a welcome change of pace.
