The weather this year was actually perfect. It was somehow colder in LA than it was back in Chicago that weekend and I am so thankful for that. I could actually stand outside in line and not die.

Ax sucked and besides, you can't really compare or rank cons unless you've been to all of them. I never went to any cons outside of California this year, but crunchyroll expo was my favorite (even if overpriced)

thousands of people coming specifically for AX had never felt an earthquake before, and then to feel not one but three, with the last being the strongest earthquake the area has had in 20 years.

as someone that never experienced one, to feel that 7.1 was scary and strangely disorienting

>> No.10305350

>>10305331
It was barely a 5 in LA. 7.1 was at the actual source of the earthquake which was near Bakersfield. We care about earthquakes the way the midwest cares about tornados. Unless it's severe, everyone goes about their day.

again, thousands of people that never experienced an earthquake ever in their lives, gathered all in one place where there were multiple earthquakes.

>> No.10306346

Yes, thank you for the reminder! To my knowledge, no. I feel like it would have been widespread news if they did. I heard that they were silently undergoing a name change to Tokyo, OK in hopes of rebranding. Looks like people aren't having it though lol: https://twitter.com/tokyointulsa/status/1154550434880610304

My first ever earthquake(s), the hotel just wobbled slightly, the first one felt like someone was pushing my bed in the morning, barely noticed it and had to ask my friend if this was an earthquake and he had to stop and feel it before saying "yeah"
And the 2nd was also irrelevant while standing in queue, least I got a better spot as they tried to "evacuate people" that just shrugged it off
Sure some freaked and ran to a doorway and my friend was in the hallway in the marriott hotel and apparently the maids were running and screaming which he found odd as he didn't even feel it
I can't even remember the 3rd which apparently was the strongest or that was the 2nd I felt while in queue and the absolute first one I slept through then
Bottom line, they were so far away that you couldn't even care less about them and those were my first ones.

If they were closer, I'm sure I'd had a different reaction to them

>> No.10307227

>>10306609
In the hotel, everything in my room shook, and it happened for what felt like 5 minutes (even though it was just a few seconds)

Why are y'all diminishing other people's feelings/experiences, some people found it surprising or scary, let them have that feeling/experience.

>> No.10307249

>>10307227
None of these people are saying that. They're simply sharing their different experiences. Not one person who replied to the original post has said anything about the way other people are feeling or that they shouldn't feel the way they did. It's ironic that you're claiming they are diminishing other people's experiences when you're the only one doing it.

>> No.10307726

The 3rd was during the Aqours cocert on Friday night I think. They stopped the concert temporarily after it, but I didn't even realize one occurred

>> No.10307744

>>10306346
The name change wasn't to rebrand, but because they can't even hold the con in Tulsa anymore and Tokyo in Broken Arrow didn't get picked.

Looks like it'll be a little more organized this year but the real problem is there is just nowhere big enough for a big con in the area at all.

that mustve been wild, ive only experienced one earthquake and it was one on the east coast in nj, think it was some weak earthquake though, my bed and mirror were shaking but i didnt even notice it beyond that

Someone punched/smashed a hole in a wall in a skybridge connecting two of the con centers. Then people left some food in there and put a note. I don't remember what was on it, but I assume something to do with Kyle.
Someone correct me if my memory is wrong.

>>10307227
No one is diminishing it, people just had different experiences with the their first earthquake(s), to each their own
>>10307726
That was probably while we were in queue at the marriott then, can't even remember for what anymore
The alarm went off and they told us to evacuate so we went down the escalator, turned around and went back up to the queue, getting into the first row instead of the 3rd that we stood in
After that they started to tag everyone in queue the following days with a marker so you could show that you had been in queue in case you had to leave so you at least got ahead of people that showed up afterwards
>>10307860
I mean LA know they'll have earthquakes from time to time so most buildings are built to sway along with the quake to minimize both damage to the building and the unpleasantness of the quake itself
I can imagine it would be a different experience if you were out in the streets, that are solid and the quake happened as it doesn't sway along, feeling like a much more impact full event
Both that I can remember I were in the marriott hotel for and it's built to last so, least for me it wasn't scary
