4264, what colors other than black&white do you have in your wardrobe? Accent colors? Are there any colors you don't wear? I want to make sure what I get you fits into your wardrobe!

And 6201, what kind of candy do you like? Chocolates, gummies, fruit flavors, etc?

Reposting my question from the last thread:

Dear 4264,

I think I managed to find the main part of your gift already! Quite excited, as I am a sweet lolita and shopping for a gothic/old school lolita is a bit of a challenge. I really hope you'll like it! I will start looking around for some cute fillers now. Just wanted to ask if you'd enjoy receiving anything related to skincare (you mentioned you like makeup but not specifically skincare) and if you have any preference regarding tea. Also what's your favorite and least favourite colour?

I am having some trouble, since I don't really share the same interest >.< ( Sorry!). I went through your pin interest but there isn't really enough for me to go on. I read through your responses and am still lost with your responses. Is there anything more you can perhaps give me to work with perhaps? I don't want to just grab something random that you might not like.

4264 here! Black and white are my main colours, but I also have a ton of navy, and a lot if things with red accents! I can upload my wardrobe shots to my linked pinterest album so you can see exactly what's there, if you'd like?

>>10276612
Oooh! That is exciting to hear! I'm not overly picky, so I'm sure I'll love it! I do enjoy skincare but my skin can be a bit chaotic and some things tend to either burn or give me a rash. Things like sheet masks are fine cos the one time use thing gives a chance for my skin to calm down again, but things like facial cleansers used every day I definitely have to be careful with. As for my favourite tea, I love matcha anything! But for regular tea, I prefer fruit teas! I'm not overly fussed on colours, I love neon green, but not for lolita haha

3841, I’m so happy to be your Santa, and I’m going to try and get you as many things from your form as I can! I’ve already found some great stuff, and I am having fun shopping.

Two questions for you- 1) I found a JSK that is gorgeous and in almost new condition, but it has full back shirring. Would this be too big for you? The good thing is that it’s not super big/ stretchy, as one of my friends has the same dress in another colour. Her bust is approx 90cm and it’s a good fit on her. Anyways just let me know!
2) If you were to commission art/ an item of your husbando, what medium or item would you want? I saw you mentioned you already have a cross-stitch and plushie, but is there another thing you’d want? Poster, keychain, or anything like that? Feel free to list more than one if you can think of them!

7728 here - is there any part of it you might have an easier time with so I can focus on that? (I can probably list more jfash brands) Like I said in the form, I'm not only looking for specifically the items listed, but rather they're an idea of what I like (straps, figures, keychains, accessories for itabagging)

I think the only interest I didn't cover in the form is cosplaying.... I'd like to try Ibaraki Douji one day, so accessories like the horn set might be a good option?

Also, for Milklim help, almost everything listed on Tokyo Otaku Mode from them is post-2015; if it looks like ugly or cheap Taobao stuff, then it’s newer.

My bust is only about 82cm, but shirring is usually fine if it’s not stretched out or if there’s lacing to tighten it. As for my husbando, I wouldn’t mind another plushie haha. Oh wait this is my number I'm an idiot. Good job past self in filling out the form

I play a lot of two player board games with my husband because I have no friends

We play a lot of Terraforming Mars and Agricola in particular, and also own Patchwork, Aeons End, Aeons End and Pandemic Legacy 1+2, Dominion (base, intrigue, and the one with the potions), near and far, twilight struggle (though this one is feel-bad), Puerto Rico, Tigris and Euphrates, castle of the mad king, portal, splendor, Catan (though we never play it), power grid, whatever the mosaic stained glass one is, and spike. I'm not home right now so I'm probably forgetting some but that's the gist of it. I like worker placement and resource management. I like the deck building in Dominion and aeons end, but haven't liked deck building in worse games. I don't like Monopoly/sorry/etc games. I used to play MtG and liked it but had to quit due to the time commitment magic takes.

Hope that helps! I'm not home till the first week of November but when I'm back I'll try to double check my list.

Yay I'm excited to see another boardgame gull!

Hey 5760, I'm your santa and I think I found a Wa-lolita piece I think you would like but it might be a bit sweet, is light blue too much for you? The print isn't overly extra, imo, but it I would say it's definitely different from what you have.

Hello 0271, I am glad to see that you put a lot of info on your form. I am pretty ignorant about Lolita, but I have been looking into some of the items you listed. These things seem pretty hard to source. I am a big fan of the mystery aspect of secret Santa, but if you have further requests or see a specific listing you really need post it. Otherwise I have had a lot of fun looking at things to get you. I have a lot of stuff saved in my browser, and I need to get out shopping someday soon because I know of some local stuff your gonna love.

>>10276710
I have the entire Chars Counterattack line so avoid that. The 0083 Line is very old so please avoid that. If you don't know a lot about different Gundam series and the suits Gundam Planet filters by series as well as scale of the model. I would be OK with just about anything. I will add that I work mostly with MG kits and the 0080 line has many new kits and I own zero of them. Surprise me though its supposed to be a mystery.

Hi! In your match email it should have specified which gift was which tier? Pop me an email if not and I'll check.

For receiving gifts, I believe one of the other helpers said if everyone could note the tier with the ID number - this is usually written on a postcard or note inside the gift, if everyone could do this that would be very helpful.

things. I am a bit of a hippy and I love buying things made locally so get ready for something you are gonna find on your side of the country. I saw something before I ever even got you as a match that will work perfectly. But it might not be what your expecting. I feel like I really narrowed in on some specific parts of your form. Besides Hypercore, I also really like Ankorock and you can't go wrong with Sex Pot Revenge. I also like h.Naoto's more casual pieces.

As for motifs... I think it would be easier to say I'm open to most of them as long as they don't cross into menhera (so no outright medical designs like pills and syringes) and they fit the general aesthetic? sort of like how if you're looking at cat designs, I'd prefer hangry & angry over hello-kitty.

A good comparison of my taste would be perhaps:

https://hnaoto.shop/hn/t-shirts/cnf27-t251-bk-pur-mm.html -- OK. Though the pattern is a rather fancy butterfly, the shirt is simple and it has colors usually associated with the punk/goth aesthetic.

https://hnaoto.shop/hn/dresses/hco-0297-bk-xl.html - NOT OK. While black and a simple cut, the neckline and the lace make it too decorated for me.

Here’s a question- can people still read handwriting/ cursive nowadays? I have sent SS cards written with handwriting, but opted for printing when sending to people who are likely not native English speakers. Do not worry. I need to post one last time to make sure my match ID: 0271 Does not worry about their gift.

I am convinced that one of you who have been replying is my match. With the amount of negativity I am really sorry that I am not living up to your expectations. I only wish you would have given me a chance. I really just wanted to make someones holiday better. With the tier we are you know I am in the whitelist and would not grinch. I was also here last year so I know about the guy who sent the bows. So I have asked Santa to remove me from the event.

In the case that my match was not one of the negative posters I am sorry that they got to me. I am certain the Santa and the helpers will find you a new match.

Hey anon - I'm really sorry you feel the need to pill out! Please don't. The only thing we're worried about is having a higher tier gift filled with filler items or non J-fashion, which is what user detailed in her form from what we can tell in her post above.
As long as it fits the theme of a CGL secret santa and is based around what user wrote, I don't see any problem.

>> No.10277514

To be fair a lot of the negativity seemed to be coming from you not listening to or acknowledging the advice given. Why pull out instead of doing your research? The dumb questions thread is right there if you need a rundown on how to buy jfash or anything else.

>> No.10277524

>>10277478
Please don’t pull out! Even if for one thing this will cause a lot of stress for the Santa’s (maybe the higher tiers should hold off buying anything in case rematching needs to be done). There’s also someone buying for you, who for all we know is really excited and has already started buying gifts for you.

The reason people are negative is that I imagine a lot of people sign up to this because there’s very few or no people in their life who can/will buy them lolita or cosplay gifts. Their families may hate it, they might be lonelitas with no friends in the comm, etc. So for a lot of people (I think) this is their only chance to get lolita for Christmas.

Maybe you were planning on getting them lolita also, but from your replies it sounded like you were planning a high tier gift with no lolita but lots of farmers market gifts? Which most people are going to think is either food, which /can/ be unique but not really a main gift, or tat you can honestly get at any farmers market i.e dice, candles, etc.

We haven’t read your giftees form, so maybe she’s written in detail about how she collects something your local market specially makes. We don’t know. You know. All anyone is saying is that we hope you have not cherrypicked the parts you can easily buy and neglected the cgl side.

Please don’t drop out, your giftee said she was excited that you’re her Santa. But I strongly recommend at least half your budget goes on things related to her sweet lolita tastes and then the other half you can go shopping locally and go crazy. I imagine the organisers will be more than happy to help if you’re nervous about lolita.

I'm actually matched to you in a very high tier and I've already bought you $135 worth of gifts so I'd appreciate not having that money/gifts go to waste by you dropping out. I can see how people are concerned though, especially if you're dropping out instead of just getting a second opinion from Santa. You have to understand us gulls have been burned just about every year by random crossboarders joining and I know you said you're white listed from last year, but sometimes it's nice to ask for help if you're unsure about someone's fashion tastes. I think people are just concerned because it seemed like you were blowing off this gull's preferences in favor a non-Jfashion gift you're buying locally and this event is traditionally heavy on the Jfashion.

Please continue with the event if only because leaving it would cause a lot of hurt feelings all around on both the Santa and gifters/giftees sides.

Id just like to add 4489 is not a cross boarder and did in-fact participate with no issues last year (and listed quite a few /cgl/ related interests). Judging by the interests listed between this giftee and the match - while lolita is not one of them, there are a lot of little niche things in common - so I can definitely take a fair guess at what this person may be looking at buying!

Id also like to add, if anyone is stuck with no idea what to get their match, Santa and the helpers are always there! There are 4 of us, all into different hobbies who will discuss ideas and help guide you and we can even find a direct your to items if you are really REALLY stuck! From your form I really got it that you’d rather not receive clothes (besides fandom which is a bit troublesome to pick considering other specifications), and I’m struggling a bit with other items in terms of choosing a centerpiece. I wonder if you’d like receiving a lot of smaller things instead of a big one plus fillers? Just making sure!

(≧∀≦) I do own Drained Cherry and Melty Berry Princess for fruit printed dresses. I don't have any good accessories Melty Berry Princess at the moment.(/TДT)/ Hope this helps!

I've made a custom order for something for one of my matches which I am super excited for! So really hope they like it! But otherwise I hope to start the main portion of my shopping in the next week. It takes me a while to get some good gift ideas, and I like there to almost be a theme with my gifts, if that makes sense?? So it doesn't look like a bunch of stuff thrown together??

But also I'm torn as I am also going on holiday and want to get gifts.. but also Taobao 11.11... but also Cyber Monday!!??

For cards and wrapping I have no clue what I'm doing yet.. do if anyone has info links - please drop some in the thread.

About boleros - I prefer long sleeved; also hooded bolero with cat/rabbit ears is acceptable with every sleeves.
Question about cutsews are more difficult to answer for me. Every sleeve length is useful if there isn't just straight sleeve.
Here are good options: Bishop or Juliet or Marie type, short puffed, sleeves with decoratios on its end (ruffles or laces), maybe lacing. Good cutsew also have lacing/waist ties/shirring on the back (or full shirred), and the best cutsew have ruffles/lace on its hem so it can be worn with skirt.

I just spent almost double my tier on a main piece for my giftee and it feels GOOD! I saw it and immediately got hype and I hope they will love it as much as I think they will! It just tied in so well with the rest of my gift I couldn't resist even though I was literally only looking for a lil cute filler stuffs cause my gift is actually already at the max of the tier oops

I still feel good about it!! Anyone else have that 'love spoiling other people' thing where its equally if not more fun to shop for someone else?

(I mean probably a chorus of yesses otherwise people ain't joining a ss but I still felt like spreading the cheer and hype I get from a 'mission well done' kind of vibe)

Oh, for sure! I only signed up for one gift ($100+) because I KNEW I would spoil them way too much and if I did that for several people....not good for my bank account lol. I stopped counting how much it ended up being. At least this year the customs didn't hit me at all (yet...)

It's a great feeling to know I'm putting together something that *hopefully* will make the other gull extremely happy. Can't wait for her reaction!

For my gift-tier I'm waiting for one last item from auction to reach the buyer so I can get everything shipped to myself. Still need to find some small fillers and write a note but I'm pretty happy with the selection of items I've found for the main portion of the gift. For my cards, I have some stickers to add to them, and have the written notes planned out but not finished. I don't live somewhere it's possible to get exciting candies or snacks (pretty much every grocery store would have the same selection or better), but want to go out and see if there's any other small local stuff I can find to include for both cards & gift instead.

I would feel awkward about going outside of my tier because I would feel bad for all the people who didn't get spoiled, so I think next year once I'm whitelisted I'll go for the $100+ so there's only a minimum limit.

>> No.10286304

>>10286255
Yeah, I don't understand the point of giving the tiers a cap if it's very much encouraged to go outside of it. It should be advised to stay within your tier.

>> No.10286307

>>10286304
It’s not so much encouraged, it’s just that it’s indicative of a good match if it does happens. Ideally everyone would stick to their tier, but sometimes people are matched well and so gift buying becomes a genuine pleasure. In which case, why discourage the santa? As long as it’s understood that they won’t necessarily be spoiled in return, I think it’s fine to go over the tier limit.

I'm starting to wish I'd done all $100+ tier because I spent way too much and I don't want my giftees to feel awkward about being splurged on.

iktf I'm $30 over each gift tier now, and I haven't even ordered my fillers yet.

It’s the thought that counts. It’s not like going above the limit guarantees a gift that your giftee will like (see the trainwrecks from previous years who overspent AND fucked up). I think a well thought out gift that shows someone really thought about your likes/dislikes will always be most satisfying. If I wanted something expensive, I would just buy it for myself. But I can’t really buy someone’s thoughts and care, if that makes sense.

OP here. If someone gets a gift expecting you to go overboard then they're just greedy and shame on them.
Some people are hard to shop for and others click so well that you just can't decide between gifts and end up going over budget getting all of them.

Some people don't have the money to splurge and others can and want to for various reasons. Mine being that I don't have any friends in lolita that I can buy gifts for so why not spoil my giftee if I'm able and I find a lot of things they like?

>>10286429
This exactly. People in past years have gone above gift tier pricing and bought the shittiest gifts. Just because you splurge doesn't mean your giftee will like it. Sometimes the best gifts is that one dream item they wanted that was in your budget. Sure, you couldn't afford anything else but you bet your ass they loved that one thing and it meant the world to them that someone went out and found it.

Case in point, a few years ago I got a bunch of gifts from someone in the lowest tier (around $20 I think?) and it was just a bunch of assorted stuff that looking back on it now, it was frankly ridiculous. A package of napkins was in it because the print matched a theme I liked. Going off the gift count it looked like they went over the budget for me but the gifts were stuff I never used. I got more enjoyment out of the candy they'd used as filler than the actual gifts.

I vaguely remember someone asking this but I'm not sure.

Should we include our Gift ID when we mail our gifts or the Gift ID + Tier? I want to say it was brought up to include the tier for when photos were posted so people could know when we went to add them to the gift album?

I absolutely love spoiling people, i'm lucky in that I get to travel to a lot of lolita/jfashion events and pick up interesting and unique things in person, it's nice to have something to buy for instead of me just hoarding my treasures like a dragon.

I also love participating in the santa because I've found that overall cgl secret santas are extremely thoughtful and manage to actually get me things I like and can use. I'm a bit picky and I've had bad luck with com swaps or even just gifts from friends. I don't care about the value, I'm just super happy to get thoughtful gifts from other jfash enthusiasts <3

Agreed. It feels like I should sign up for a tier lower and spoil someone by going over budget than sign up for the tier my gift would actually be in.

>> No.10286891

Sorry but personally I just don't see the 'pressure' anywhere? If you feel like you have to go over budget just cause other people are, thats completely your own choice. One anon shares their excitement over finding something to spoil their match with and out come all these 'oh great now I'm selling my match short/now I feel pressured' replies. Nobody is making you feel that way but yourself anons...

>> No.10286929

I don't quite get the mixed feelings here either. Not everyone is able to spoil, it might be hard to shop for the match, or unwise financially. It was in the rules that you should NOT expect to be spoiled and being sour over not getting a main piece in the $20 tier is unacceptable.

That being said, if your gift is thought out and matches the interests of your giftee, they are 99% likely to appreciate it. anyone can make a nice gift within their limits if they put some heart into it.

Everyone has different circumstances and we should respect that and just appreciate the fact some stranger on the internet decided to make you happy this year.

>> No.10287269

So I have participated for the past three years, and every year I have gone over budget on at least one gift, whether this was because I struggled to buy for them and felt like I had to bulk up the gift or whether I loved buying for them and had a bit too much fun. I have never been spoiled in return, at least not to my knowledge, and generally I think unless you go WAY over budget or buy brand, it’s not even obvious when you have overspent. I have never been spoiled and I literally couldn’t care less, it was my choice to overspend and I doubt my giftees really noticed, because if anyone overspent on me I didn’t notice. Honestly this is not a big deal. I don’t think there have ever been any complaints because someone overspent and their Santa didn’t, and if someone did complain they’d be torn apart for being so entitled.

Yeah, it's definitely more than one or two people talking about spoiling their matches.

Again, I just have to ask, what's the point in there being a limit if people are allowed to go over? The point of having the different brackets is so that when you sign up for one, you have an idea of what you'll be both giving and receiving. Every other Secret Santa I've participated in, it's been in bad taste to go above what the agreed parameters are.

>> No.10287387

>>10287372
The point is having a minimum and a general target to aim for. If you look at a tier, you can kinda picture what kind of items you could get if you know what I mean? And if you wanna go all out you can pick 100+ and have no upper ceiling. This year there was even an "other" tier option in case you wanted to enter a higher amount.

I think it’s in bad taste to go over in like office secret Santa’s and friend groups because they’re social obligations that can be hard to get out of and if someone is not in the best financial situation it makes it awkward for them if you overspend and therefore is bad taste. This is an optional secret Santa for an expensive/luxury hobby that you get to choose the tier. The implication is you choose a tier you can afford so really it’s more bad taste to sign up to a tier where you cannot afford the minimum.

Just got the main part of my match's gift plus a part of the fillers. Just need to get some more and I'm all set!

Also to my Santa, I'm match 4302 and on December 14th I'll be out of town but I'll be back the day right after Christmas so I'll post in thread once I have your gift then post pics once I return from holiday travels!

On topic with the discussion of spoiling, if a match spoils you, great if they don't, as long as you got a good gift, also great. I didn't get spoiled last year, even though I was in the 100+ tier and still loved it. I got spoiled the year before and loved it, and the year before that, I also loved it even though I wasn't spoiled. I'm just happy to get stuff I actually like for the holidays. I think we should all just appreciate what a random stranger does as long as they try hard, and it makes us happy.
