Reposting since the last thread archived before anyone could reply.
This towel turned out to be much bigger than I expected and didn't really fit into the bag. I tried folding it so that at least the band's name would be visible but the only way to do that was to also fold part of the middle under itself. What do you think, does it look okay even with the big fold down the middle or should I just scrap the idea and not keep the towel in the bag?

Seconding taking the towel out though. Iirc there's the SH 5th anniversary towel which might be able to fit better, but it's probably hard to obtain that now. If anything, you can always go for a roses motif backing fabric too.

If you want to use the towel design as a background, one idea is to scan the towel and vector over the design, colour it, then print it to proper bag scale with spoonflower/another fabric company? Then you still have the design in the bag, and can use the towel elsewhere so people at least know you own the original piece

hey anons, the knockoff bag i got 3 years ago for 20hkd (less than 3usd) from a random cosplay shop in hong kong is finally on its last legs. i looked through the google doc linked in the op for taobao shops for base bags but the product links seem to be broken on my end, as taobao links usually and eventually do.

i'm looking for a taobao shop with the same classic design in white/pink like my current bag. it's gotta be able to fit a laptop/A4 folders. and it's gotta be sturdy so the straps don't give out with heavy weight like laptops. i'll also take other cute designs- i have a penchant for bunny ears- but the main thing is size, sturdiness, and baby pink x white. don't want to shop around unknown stores by just searching the relevant terms, so a little spoonfeeding would be greatly appreciated. thanks gulls

I saw the moon one before and thought it looked cute, except once you add pins to it and obscure the moon then it's just a circle bag. I ended up buying the coffin clutch this weekend because of aesthetics. There are larger/vertical coffin window itabags out there, but it looks normal enough to bring to the grocery store and the build looks sturdy.

A lot of other creators are jumping on the itabags for pins market. I actually saw someone carrying this type of bag at the last con I went to with a beautiful Sailor Moon themed layout. When I looked it up, it's $100 and advertised as an itabag but all the display photos on their shop use pins only.

Would you consider only using one or two of the characters for this bag? As it is now, it doesn't seem to have much harmony. If you do choose to use only one or two of the characters, try thinking about the balance of your layout and where you want to put your emphasis. When I look at your bag, my eyes go straight to the charms with the white background. See if you can put those in a set place where it will draw your attention and fit well with the rest of your pieces. I hope that helps a bit and isn't too vague!

I have this one and a larger one that's got the same mesh backing. desu I don't use the mesh to secure rubber straps or acrylics (lobster clasps come off easily in my experience), but it is really useful for pinning can badges to. Being able to see the angle of the pin is helpful. But I really got it because it's a built-in backing with velcro sewn in, so I don't have to fuss with making sure a homemade insert stays in place.

I wouldn't trust that outside strap though. It just seems like merch would get flung off it too easily.

I'm not trying to deter you pattern wise, but construction wise its not good for anything but sitting on a desk. First week, both zippers broke and when I tried to see how it would look worn with a planned outfit for a con, one of the main straps snapped.

On top of the creator being an art thief, she wouldn't hear any complaints when I emailed her about the problems. She told me I misused it and that it wasn't supposed to be worn for long periods since its just a display bag.

Depends if you’re picky about location, but I put mine on the very bottom of the straps. Obvi it’s a tote bag, but if you glue/tape/attach a hair tie or rubber band to the rosette and cut it, you can just tie it around the strap. I’ve done that with two of my bags. I could show you mine for an example if you want.

I’d much rather damage the back of the rosette a little bit than my base bag.

When they confirmed they bought it I made sure the listing wasn't there anymore(Since the item is kinda rare and they only had one) But I noticed a couple of days ago, said item came back in stock. And the item hasn't arrived at Japonica yet. Could it be the case the order was canceled or something and Japonica didn't tell me? Or I'm being paranoid?
I've bought in Mercari before with them and items didn't take that long to get into their office.

Bought the black moon one about a year ago to use as an everyday purse and I'd say it's well worth the money. I do agree, putting a picture on the insert is kind of silly bit the bag itself is real nice quality and has held up nicely after a full year of heavy use. I think there's a core to these rules that actually is a good point but they've just broadened it so far it looks absurd. Making my first itabags over quarantine, one of them is Ruby from Love Live but the other two are characters from a very popular franchise but lack proper keychains. Buttons I’m all set with because I have a friend who makes em in her room, but does anyone know where I can get proper acrylic keychains that’s not Zap? Anon, I'd rank self made stuff with official art even lower than fan merch, same category as bootlegs because that's basically what they are. I'd recommend rather commission artists you like for art or buy existing fanmerch. Commissions are easy way to get them to match the merch you already have.

I want to start an idol itabag, any advice on building one when merch is both awkward to buy in bulk and is expensive (badges are only sold at Asian concerts, in a blind bag, with the purchase limit of 1-3)? The price of the average badge is ¥2,000-3,000 each, so I can't really do my initial idea of having the whole thing being repeating badges. I'm thinking of bulking out the spaces with photocards, as they're easy to buy and I already have many.
I could just use unofficial merch/handmade merch, but I feel like that's cheating

I’m guilty of that! The show I like has little western fandom but thankfully it’s popular in Japan. I can usually never find anything at local events but Japanese collectors sell their collections often in lots so I just buy those. I made a hobi itabag using exclusively official pins and merch, and what i did was look up on mercari using バッジセット to find lots to buy rather than individuals. i also used magnets which were cheaper than the can badges, i attached pin backs to them with a bit of hot glue to prevent shifting around since hot glue comes off damage free with alcohol if i need to take them off. the sk telecom collab pins are also huge if you need to cover up some space, they take up my entire palm. My friend who made one for kook couldnt afford filling the entire thing with pins at all since his go for at least 3k yen to 5k for blind bag acrylics, so she got one of those double pocket backpacks and put 1 of each pin on top and filled the bottom half with shooky plushies, so you could consider adding rj toys in aswell. pic related is my display rn if you want some inspo, i'm going to replace the one fansite merch pin with a dupe of the hyyh one soon. the lenticular + ly japan keychains were the most expensive things for me with $20 each

There aren't really any... "larger heart bags [backpacks]" unless you count the Berry Q bags (pictured) which can be converted into shoulder, backpack, hand bag.

Yeah, I just plan to buy secondhand. Found plenty on Japanese sites already. I have seen the Berry Q ones but idk, something about them I just don't like. It's odd because I like the star one. but something about the heart ones just looks... off to me.
