It's less and less common for anime cons to be only anime or comic cons to be only comics, now there's basically a mix of anime, japanese culture, video games, etc at every con, so cosplay from different genres of source material is relevant even if it's not strictly what the con started out as. Plus, nobody ever bats an eye if someone cosplays a Disney princess at comiccon or a final fantasy character at an anime con, except for the most elitist of gatekeepers. Just cosplay what you like, as long as you follow convention guidelines and respect other people's experience.

Video games are kind of a grey zone though, it depends on the game.

Maybe fates stuff? Monster hunter? Bayoneta? I like seeing lots more of armor cosplay tho so seeing masterchief and dark souls shit is pretty cool. However easy stuff like the walking dead is cool if they got the paint on to copy the artstyle otherwise it just feels soulless. Casual cosplay is fine but situations where the artsy or is unique I find empty.

Games usually have better character designs. In anime/manga you have to draw them, but in games you can just model them once and use it as much as you need, thus they can be more complicated.

I personally don't like seeing western stuff at an anime con but it's purely out of my control. I'd never complain to anyone at the con about it. Honestly if a con tries to restrict cosplay origins then they're effectively shutting themselves down.

It's not like there's a huge amount of gaming cons. There's a lot more anime cons, and lots of video games from japan w anime styles anyway. Personally, I wish there were more gaming cons. I'm just not into anime much these days, but still go to cons for jrpg things even if I feel just a little out of place.

Well multiplayer games have tournaments, some of them can feel like cons at times. Big ones always have cosplayers too.
