Does anyone else thing ribbon hunting is one of the most fun things do at a con? Whats the best task to get one you've seen? Where do you all get yours printed? Got any good ones in the works?

Sherpa and Pack Mule were ribbons for climbing up all 26 flights of stairs to the gaming room instead of taking the elevator. The packmule one was for doing it in a huge.heavy cosplay or carrying something heavy.
I always like the ones for getting noticed by a con guest. Usually it's for cosplay sometimes it's just saying you're a cool guy.

these have been a thing forever at other types of cons but I'm really confused why it's called a ribbon game at anime cons lately. What about it is a game?

>> No.10248232

>>10248188
The game is to collect as many as you can, kind of like an achievement hunt

Really wish this trend would catch on at an east coast con. Seems like it’s the biggest at ALA. I’ve only ever received one ribbon, at this past Katsucon. I will probably make some myself for next years Katsu.

I know Anime Iwai and Mizucon in Florida do it

Wasn't there a game at a con on a Sunday to see who had the longest row of ribbons? I remember a photo of 2 people on the 2nd floor and their ribbons touching the ground floor.

Third anon here.
I started doing ribbons at this past Katsucon. I really enjoyed it but I didn't get to hand many out. Hopefully it'll catch on.

Is this not a thing in the Midwest? Never seen it. Such a fun idea though!

>> No.10250728

Is there any place to get these made for less than $40 for a hundred? Surely printed ribbons can be made for cheaper than that.

>> No.10250934

>>10250728
I got mine from Marco Promo. Usually the first transaction is the most expensive since they custom make your tile for printing. Then for every purchase afterwards it's cheaper because the tile is already made.

why do german cons have to be boring as hell

I heard someone is starting it up at Holiday Matsuri this year, pretty sure I saw a Facebook group for it too. I'm glad ribbon trading is making it's way to the east coast

>> No.10252014

Tried this at a big Texas con but alas it didn't catch on. It's just not a thing here.

My very first Dragoncon, I got these two. Never cared much for them before, now having them is kind of neat.

>> No.10252878

Why trade them? They really feel like personal things. Like who wants a badge like I went to X panel if they actually didn't. Kinda weird.

>> No.10252886

>>10252014

Yeah, the problem is people don't notice when theres just one. You need a bunch on a few people before they catch on.

Would it be tasteless to have a "We Didn't Start The Fire" ribbon for ALA?

>> No.10262827

It's great to get hunted down when you have a ribbon people want, cause it makes bringing it oh so worth it.

>>10259342
>>10259601
Ribbons at cons aren't too common so it isn't expected majority of the time. Recently it's becoming more common, but its tragic when organizers don't understand it themselves and either dont advertise it well or have badges that dont work for it.

>>10252878
Trades in my experience are usually done with ribbons people made themselves or if they got a ribbon that involves a fandom they dont care about.

Protip for people going to ribbon cons for first time: Bring a roll of duct tape and a safety pin.
Adhesives on those arent the best and you'll lose chunks, and safety pins let you roll up the top when your ribbons start to hit the floor.
