I think all the shades of red and pink are combined really well here, and I don't hate the shoes and hat. They both look midcentury vintage so they at least go with each other. The synth dreads would look much better in an updo though, I've seen goths make really elegant buns with synthdreads. Maybe with clip in bangs in the front too just to make them cuter.

I suppose but we can't all help our size sometimes. Unfortunately I don't think VM comes in larger sizes. That said so many factors here fail to make it cohesive so it looks drab. Definitely a wig to cover the fried hair and add some uplift to the overall look but also the shoes are such a stark contrast to the pastels. unless the hair is going to be super styled, ditch the rag on top of it because it looks more dreary, add a larger headpiece to take the width off the silhouette, stockings with a vertical pattern in the front to lengthen. shoes that match the overall color scheme to add to the illusion. done

I think its a hair texture thing. When POC wear dreads the coily texture of their hair meshes into the dreads more neatly, faux or natural, and they gel down the baby hairs around the hairline in those neat swoopy patterns.
Straight white people hair doesn't mesh into the dreadlocks as cleanly so there's lots of loose hairs around them, and white people have longer/thinner baby hairs that would look ridiculous laid down with gel so they just stick out everywhere around the hairline.

People try. Ali, Wish and Amazon -- these three platforms are always shot down straight away whenever people ask about buying lolita from there. The last Aliexpress lolita shop closed many years ago and the other two never had any real lolita shops. So pretty much if you're buying lolita on those 3 platforms it's a 10000% guarantee that (a)this item will be much cheaper on taobao, direct from the shop that makes it, or (b)it's an ugly, cheapskate replica knockoff. There's no exceptions to this, the chinese lolita shops just aren't on there, only the expensive middlemen peddling "costumes" to gwailo (so if it's cheap, it's definitely really shitty. They have to make a profit stocking that shit somehow).

It's not like anons don't put effort into explaining this. One ita in my comm is absolutely insufferable about this. She exclusively buys through Devilinspired, regularly recommends it to newbies and gets buttflustered any time someone suggests it’s overpriced and to buy directly from Taobao instead. Countless times people have offered to walk her through the process or include her in a group order. She always refuses and acts like she’s being bullied for not buying brand (??), then whines that she doesn’t have the money for brand. I have actually destroyed my legs with unfitting shoes (on holiday and didn't have spare pair). I couldn't walk straight for few months and walking still hurt after half a year. Eh, no, the dress is quite bad. Disregarding the print, the fit is atrocious. The neckline is way too high, so it makes her bust area look like one giant humoungous block. Distorts the sailor collar too, at least I think it's a sailor collar, either that or a really distorted peter pan collar. Neither are good.

Whatever is happening on the center is pretty bad too, there's wrinkles and pulling on the fabric, and then there's more wrinkles under her bust. Pretty sure the dress plain doesn't fit her. By the time you get to the sleeves it's become a minor gripe, but to actually hit the lolita aesthetic you can't just have a plain dress, plain hem, plain nothing, and then plain sleeves. At the very least make puffed sleeves, something with lace, circle sleeves, *something* other than this t-shirt-looking sleeves. The sleeves pushes the dress from "plain but cute" to "this isn't even lolita".

If it's homemade then it's not too bad -- some learning curve while she learns how to sew for her body type. A large bust often trips people up, you can't just cover it in one fabric block. The neckline is tricky, a lower neckline will make it look smaller, but you can't lower that much that your boobs pop out. A jsk style is a good approach if you don't mind sewing both a dress and a blouse, the contrast between the jsk and blouse will visually cut up the bodice into smaller blocks.

As for the bodice fit -- there's free tutorials for basic bodice sloper, that's a good place to start figuring out her body size. Make a few mockups before sewing the final dress to work out any kinks, and get an actually honest friend to give feedback, be ready to make mistakes (I've completely trashed and remade dresses that I poured time and energy into, because they look like shit. It's just something you need to be critical about. )

Well, I hope it's like, her first dress or something. Hopefully she gets better after this one.
