I’m not a Lolita so I don’t know much but here we go; Lolita is jfash, that’s worn at conventions because often conventions are anime themed so it makes sense there’d be some weebs in it at cons. It’s not cosplay because cosplay is costuming as an existing character. I would say it’s kinda a costume but I don’t know if lolitas consider it costuming.

I don't get it either sometimes. IMO it is a very expressive hobby for some that only wear it to events. Just like most cosplayers but they may not be playing a character but in a way, it is just a custom for an event. But for those that wear the fashion every day or as much as possible it is a lifestyle fashion. It is pretty much all I have to wear in my closet besides a very few normie outfits for professional matters that wearing Lolita would be inappropriate. I wear it pretty much every time I leave my home. Inside I am still in a dress but a casual Victorian influenced one. It is too expensive to get coords ruined by cooking, eating, cleaning at home. I blow through wristbands like a mofo. I spray Scotch Guard on alot of my dresses and blouses as a barrier to stains. In my car I have a lap protector from the steering wheel making marks on my dresses if I have a high poof going on, yes I clean my car especially my steering wheel. I take simple steps to make a coord last longer. If you get the right size items, it can be comfortable to wear for 8 to 10 hours just like normie clothes. My dry cleaning bill is high but I hand wash as much as I can. I hand wash my petticoats and let them drip dry over night, about 3 times a week, more if needed. Every night socks are being hand washed and dripped dry. For me the cleaning of items is the most time consuming part of daily wear. But it is worth it to me. If you aren't willing to put in the cleaning time, replacement expenses then you can't wear it as a lifestyle.
