Gundam and FF and Death Note are certainly more popular as a whole but not really when it comes to what Miyano Mamoru is associated with. He’s basically the face of the Utapri franchise and his anime concert performances usually focus on the theme songs he sang for that.
Any 2D stuff without nostalgia or a live action tie-in isn’t going to be nearly as popular, but Utapri is near the top of the 2D world in sales. In a recent trip to Japan I saw an entire physical store in a prime location in downtown Tokyo dedicated only to Utapri merchandise and it was bizarre, never saw anything like it for a non-normie show.
Either way I hope he gets more than one panel so people can ask him about Death Note or Ouran or whatever. It also seems like a waste for him to be in LA and not have him drop in at the all-night Steins Gate event...

For picking up event tickets (concert etc.) they do check.
For getting into AX they do not check, but if there is any issue with the badge and they go to the help desk, they will most likely check and the buyer might have to smooth talk their way through it.
This is just from what I've heard, I personally haven't bought a ticket from someone else before.

If you like Trigger anime, the Trigger panel is always a good time, and an announcement for something new is almost guaranteed this year because they have nothing lined up after Promare.
Otherwise I only go to guest panels for guests I like and maybe a premiere or two if I am excited for them.

Would it be worth it to buy a one day badge to see the Utapri movie? I've never been to AX, but the Utapri movie screening is really tempting me since I have liked the series for a very long time. They said there will be a theatrical release after it premieres at AX, but if it's a limited 1-2 day screening within the 2 weeks after it's screening at AX I might not be able to catch it til it comes out on dvd/blu-ray since I'll be traveling. I really wouldn't want to drop a lot of cash only to find out I can't get in in the end since that's all I would really want (and would have time) to do.

I was able to find some old niche stuff in the exhibit hall (like out of print figures) but there is typically an insane markup on them. In some cases it’s cheaper to just fly to Japan and buy the stuff.

Only if you've made a working relationship with the promoters. In the old days it was like that and you could get free tickets to everything without having to actually work. You just walked up and signed up for tickets or asked for one from their stack. Yeah, Fanime 2016 was the last straw for me. As you implied, it devolved into a hangout con, which isn't what I want since I'm already from the bay. I don't feel that AX will completely follow Fanime's route where it's a struggle finding anything to do though. Never been to ALA either and it sounds like I shouldn't go if it's like Fanime

2018 was my first time at AX and I don't really know but I got the feeling like the concerts are all just K-pop shit that's not even majorly attended by the actual cosplay/industry crowd but more by just all of the Asian tourists who probably also like anime and stuff but the panels and the cosplay and everything aren't really their incentive for going as much as the K-pop is.
