This.

I started getting really stressed out whenever a EU buyer would ask me for a shipping quote because they would ALWAYS complain about the cost and would ask it to be shipped the cheapest way etc when PayPal doesn't offer seller protection for cheaper options. And those cheaper options aint wen cheap!

Sometimes, Id lowball the pricing, still get bitched at and then I'd have to make up the difference in shipping costs because I'm not an ass who will ask for more shipping $$ after the fact.

Now I don't ship outside the us, on the surface anyways. I do preface it that I'm willing to work with people if they REALLY want the item and realize it's going to cost a fuckton in shipping tho.

Alright, so let me explain some stuff since you all think we're breaking US law and going to jail for felonies over customs value.

And before I being
>t. postal gull

The values you mark on parcels don't actually mean shit and can't be proved otherwise because you're not a business. The truth is, you're sending used clothes. Even though someone paid you $100 for a dress doesn't mean that's the actual value, because the value is lost the second it is sold from the original business and enters the irrelevant 2nd hand market. You can write "USED DRESS, $20" and that would be just as true as writing "USED DRESS, $200", because it's used clothes and doesn't have a set defined value because you're not the established business selling it. You aren't a business, you aren't engaging in international trade as a business, and that's the only place that it matters. You can literally say "They gave me $200 but really it's only worth $20 because it's a used dress out of my closet".

Theoretically EU customs cause a stink if the item is NWT and they happen to open it for random inspection, but even then the absolute WORST that can happen is that customs revalues the item and the receiver has to pay the tax off of that, not felony charges, ffs. This will only happen if there is some sort of paper work (tags, invoice) included in the shipment showing how much it is "worth", then they'll add a value to it, otherwise it's used clothes of a non-EU protected brand (fashion designers in Europe have protections that can be used, but not irrelevant Japanese thrift clothes)- so that will never happen without paperwork and will be extremely rare with.

If you think you're committing a felony by deciding the value of your own used clothes, then you're delusional.

FYI- there's multiple people in the thread, not just me (that was my only reply). I'm not upset/mad at all, just killing time on a train.

But the point is that you're not lying on a document/breaking the law over a used item because values aren't protected and don't apply at that point. If you're a business, it applies. If you're selling something new, it could apply in certain cases. If you're an individual selling a used item that has no protections then it does not apply because value is literally whatever you say it is- there's no "lie" involved.

I'm not telling you what to do at all, you do you- it doesn't matter, but understand that no one in the thread is breaking any law.

Europeans ask for parcel markdowns not only to pay less taxes, but also because they simply don't want to deal with customs shit such as waiting way too fucking long until the postal service decides to release it from customs. There was a girl who sold a bunch of stuff and convinced people to pay via friends and family and did a charge back on 20 of them. This was near the end of the LJ days. They don’t seem to realize it’s not our problems, or if they do they want to make it ours somehow. It’s mind boggling. Even if marking down packages isn’t technically illegal, which in some places it is, it’s a morally questionable thing to do.

This is an anonymous board. How do you know for certain how many different people have bad experiences with Europeans vs. Americans? Many girls in my comm are burnt out on selling to North Americans because in our experiences, those buyers usually try to haggle over shipping prices (which are still half of what it would cost to ship from NA to our country btw) and become paranoid and rude whenever a parcel is detained by customs. Afaik none of my NA buyers have ever had to pay customs charges or had anything detained for more than a few days but a lot of them still send me pissy messages about it, as if it’s my fault that customs exist. One tried to leave me negative feedback because her package was detained for two days, but LM mods overturned it.

>hear from them once after several days that they want an invoice proof

>I try to reach them, nothing
>we don't have anything that matches your tracking number anon
>wait some more time
>turns out these fucking cretins destroyed the parcel content and sent it back to China

I don't insist on marking the parcel down for saving money as much as I simply don't want another one of these horror stories to repeat, ESPECIALLY not with a dream dress. It's also why I never choose EMS or DHL because it's guaranteed to be caught by customs. The smoothest sailing is tracked Airmail shipping with the value marked under 20€ and as a gift. Besides, this whole law only applies to official businesses anyway and not to private people. For all we know, some kind and generous angel could've simply gifted someone Puppet Circus just because she felt like it. I honestly think $850 is pretty low and I think it will only go back up in the future. The dress itself was $438 (just going by AP USA) and let's say you add $20 for shipping. That's $458. That's a low-ball price because it doesn't consider people who had to use a SS.

On top of that, the minimum time people waited for their MTO is 7 months. Selling for $850 is basically saying that whoever sold it only valued their waiting time at $56 a month.

Maybe I'm dumb and I'll gladly eat my words when I'm wrong, but I think it'll climb over $1k again. I certainly don't think it'll ever sell for a measly $500

It already has. Recently. You’re kind of stupid. Part of the reason for the high price was the absolute scarcity due to very low numbers originally being produced. But there was a world wide MTO for it, so the numbers are much MUCH higher now.

"I don't think it'll sell regularly for only $500"
is what I should have said.

Also why the hostility? Are you butthurt over not getting in on the MTO or something?

No one is really sure just now many dresses were produced this time. I'm seeing more and more people saying they wish they bought it. It wasn't cheap and I can see a lot of people flaking out because it wasn't a cheap lucky pack.

It just seems unlikely to me that someone who waits half a year for a dress would let it go for basically what they bought it for. I mean, they'd get their money back, but not their time.

Hey gulls, I'm lazy and concerned about mis-marketing my secondhand brando on LM... Would people get mad if I under price things on purpose while explaining it's because I can't confirm if the condition is better then wearable? Or will that make people mad? Someone irl said she thought people might get mad at brando being underpriced.

>> No.10184878

Yeah no, don’t do that. Always be sure to accurately list the condition and damages to any item.

>> No.10184896

>>10184873

You're not responsible for upholding other people's burando pricing, so mark it at whatever price you like.

What's more worrisome is you not describing the damage accurately. Wouldn't this lead to potential buyers requesting a shitton of info before they buy? And there's the always the stupid buyers who entirely misread your "this might not be wearable" to mean "if you're really picky, there's a tiny pinprick hole nobody can see" vs "this REALLY isn't wearable because the back is entirely sun-bleached out but you can totally still put it on for a photoshoot showing only your front, which counts as wearing it", and then they start hassling you for a refund/return, or straight up open a paypal dispute because you mislead them about how "wearable" an item is.

Just describe the damages and the condition accurately. Price it however you want, if you're only selling a few items people just assume you're rich or desperate. It's only if you're dumping a shitton of burando for dirt cheap that people start wondering where you got them from and why.

guess i phrased things incorrectly. What I meant to say is is it okay to under-estimate the condition of a piece AND price it low? I did not mean to imply I was going to mis-report the item as better quality. I'm just trying to figure out a way to avoid hassle because i'm a lazy person. The idea came from how Japanese secondhand stores often downplay how good the condition of something is and so westerners tend to be pleasantly surprised at what they receive and have few complaints.

>>10184896
I agree with no supporting some kind of brando bubble. It's just that my friend was really insistent that there should be a maintained value that I thought I should ask here in case it is a shared sentiment. This person also buys and sells a lot so that probably shapes their opinion.

The occasional cheap sale isn't going to affect the market all that much. Only if you're flooding the market with cheap burando will people start asking questions.
