Highwayman is quite easy to cosplay. Dustcoat, a bit of fur, scarf, got it.

Well, a "real" crusader, first to third crusade would be mainly mail + 11-13th century helm. Most of those helm are kinda simple, some would say ugly.
Getting a haubert/haubergeons close to your size is quite hard, and if they don't really fit, it's not confortable and don't look good.

The DD crusader is using what look like a visored sallet or a proto-armet, while the rest of the armor is pure fantasy. But you can take 14-15th century milanese armor as basis to to get the design or the armor
