Has anyone had experience buying sun parasols? I’m trying to find one that’s cute, but would also be functional.

Yes this term worked. As a wig maker I use yak hair to make facial hair pieces since it has the perfect thickness and texture, but it can be difficult to find since yaks primarily live in Tibet and I was looking to purchase around a whole kilo worth of the stuff and I would much rather deal with my SS than sellers on Alibaba that want you to buy massive amounts (yeah i checked aliexpress, dhghate, etc for yak hair and didnt find anything)

Has anyone else ever had a taobao package just stop updating for 10 days and then say this?

I’ve never had a “airline shipment” notification come up, let alone like 5 on the same tracking with days between them

I’m really getting worried about it

Are there any shopping services that allow you to pay them directly with your credit/debit card, but don't use DHPay or PayPal? Neither support my country, and it really sucks (western union and bank transfer aren't options for me). There used to be iPayLinks, but according to Superbuy's support email, they suddenly stopped working.
Failing that, is there anyone running a resale store who'd be willing to ship certain items to me if I pay them to buy them from Taobao for me? There are so many items I want, and my heart is dying at the fact that I can't get them (and by the time all this is fixed, they'll probably be sold out and gone forever).

It might not be the answer you're looking for, but I know of a Japanese brand with a global Rakuten storefront (meaning you can buy directly from them without an SS) that makes some cute parasols (although most of them are more geared towards gothic) called Lumiebre. I own one of the more inexpensive ones (I think I spent maybe around $50-60 on it not including shipping? this was back in 2016 so I don't quite remember but I know I didn't spent too much on shipping) and it's very high quality and both water and UV proof, although make sure to check the listing because it does tell you the specifics

I did, bottom row is the lace and fabric.

I love the lace, it's really soft (looks like it would take dye well if I wanted to color it), the top part of it is thick and feels like great quality, and the "feathers" are delicate. I have a feeling they could get tangled though.

The fabric is a lot shinier and sparkly than the photo, and really thin. I haven't washed it yet, but it doesn't seem to be dropping glitter all over my sewing area, which is great. I'm making a blouse with it now, and definitely needed another fabric under it, it's just so thin.

How dumb of an idea is it to order from Taobao directly, without a shopping service?
My mandarin is decent, and just from looking through the site it seems easy enough- but I haven’t actually ordered anything yet so I’m not sure if there’s something I’m missing.
I guess I’m wondering why everyone uses a service when it appears simple enough to just order it direct.

Taobao has inbuilt forwarding services you can use. As soon as you pop a foreign address into the address field it should come up with whatever warehouses ship to your country for you to select. A lot of sellers won't ship out of China, so doing the forwarding warehouse is a much more viable option.

I used two guides to help find my way through this, one is on reddit's r/taobao. The other was some blogmom local to my country. Yes, it's doable, especially if you speak mandarin, and yes, it's cheaper than using a shopping service.

Be sure to download aliwangwang, as that's what you use to communicate with the seller/taobao warehouse.

You will also want to see if you can look up China post's restrictions. You cannot ship powder, liquids and something about electronics/batteries. Plus occasionally customs will open up your parcel and confiscate things. Other than language, this is the other barrier, some things are much harder to order directly, for eg if you want nail stamping plates or a bottle of resin, it's better to go through Aliexpress rather than attempt to buy it from a taobao seller and then run into restrictions.

Be aware that you're buying from overseas, and sometimes things just go sideways, like getting a lazy warehouse rep that gives you all the wrong answers and then you come back another day and get a much better rep who now gives you completely different answers, shit like that.

Quick review of this wig: it's legitimately stunning. I'm not exaggerating when I say that it's one of my all time favorite wigs; it's soft, doesn't tangle or lose much hair, the fake scalp looks realistic and the color is beautiful - it has these little blue hairs strewn throughout the wig which really makes the purple pop. I wish they had more wigs in this specific color because I'd buy more in a heartbeat. 10/10, I love this wig.

I'd suggest thinking carefully whether you really want it, though. I've bought things that look like other things. They work out when I know I'm buying it because "this dress has flying unicorns" or "that one has a giant pirate ship that the 'original' doesn't".

But I'd also bought a dress because it looked like another dress that I didn't fit, and looking at the non-original always made me really sad and depressed. The fabric is definitely light, perfect for summer. Full shirring in the back + zipper. No pockets. Jsk straps are removable on the back so you can do a halter. Straps have 2 button holes as well for adjustable sizing. Since it was a present, not sure on how much it costs but it's a good purchase if it's around ~50usd. Mine didn't come with the ribbon around the waist but there's loops around the waist for them.

Close up of the print. Print is clear and crisp, but the fabric is eh? I thought it'd be chiffon or nylon or something. But it's this double weave thing that'll make a grid pattern. Only visible up close at an angle though but person not a fan of this fabric. But it makes it light! 2 layers dress, outer and inner layer. White one underneath is pretty thin too. Got my package today!
I only ordered 9 items since this was my first time, but my next order will be way bigger.
Took almost three weeks from hitting “buy” to arriving at my door, but it might have been quicker if I hadn’t had a brain fart about consolidating the items.
Ordered one aurora and Ariel petticoat, but got two in the package. Definitely paid for one, not complaining.
Ordered three Red Maria tights, one was the wrong color. Definitely selected the right color when I ordered, but I’m not too upset and i figure it’s not worth fussing about.
Everything else was perfect!
All together, shipping cost roughly 25 bucks. That’s for shipping within China + shipping the consolidated package to the US.
Overall this was way less scary of an experience than I thought it’d be. I’d even say knowing mandarin isn’t required to buy directly since it was quite simple, but I couldn’t speak to others’ experiences.

Taobaotrends has gotten much worse over the years. My last order (about half a year ago) took them over a month to ship after they received my goods, and they were awful about communicating too.
