Which comm has more autism and batshit crazies, cosplay or lolita? I think cosplay has more transfreaks and lolita has more general mental health patients imo.

>>10139567
Cosplay has more backstabbers and psychopaths, I bet. Both have a lot of autism. I’d rather be friends with cosplayers though.

>> No.10139603

I’m a cosplayer(cons) and a lolita (daily), based not online but irl, I see more crazy bitches in cosplay, I’ve never had a problem with a lolita, most seem to just be regular people in a frilly dress, most cosplayers seem pretty normal too, but I’ve met a few who were either just extremely money hungry or flat out rude, when it comes to how many cringey autists are in the hobbies I’d say it’s equal

>> No.10139902

Had some Lolita friends and they seemed fine, so based on that I cannot really give my full on opinion on the Lolita community. The cosplay one however... Is just a whole new level of autism.

Lolita has more retarded anachans and mentally ill people in general
Cosplay has more attention whores and dangerous/smelly autists

but I think both have the same amount of crazy
I'm friends with both, but I friend cosplayers to be slightly more approachable

I've found that cosplayers are more outwardly crazy and Lolitas understand that you need to keep that under wraps to be polite. The Lolita community online is savage, but when you meet those same people in person they suddenly become very polite, mostly because Lolita fashion has a certain kind of "polite element" that expected to be observed during events.

When Lolitas go to tea parties and pay over $100 to get in the door, everyone becomes more polite because there is an incentive to not waste the cost of your ticket on a bad time.

Cosplayers go to cons and the expectation is it's going to be "wild and crazy" so I think they are less guarded about their weirdness because of that social expectation.

>>10139603
Same. All the Lolitas I've met in person are nice. Even the girls who behave wildly online are usually fine to sit next to in person. If a Lolita seems like a serious autist online, she is usually trying to be on her best behavior in person.

holy shit you're right

I just want friends that sew so I can swap ideas, techniques, and motivate each other and every circle that's related to sewing is usually batshit insane or has several mental patients in it.

my school's cosuclub is 1 trans, 4 lesbos (somehow?), and a straight girl, and me, the only guy. I wouldn't mind it if they didn't talk about how trans and lesbo they are or shitting on non-lesbo/LGBT people the next

never thought I'd say i'd rather have autists than some turbo woke normies in this hobby

>> No.10140232

>>10140209
In college iirc my club was majority bisexuals at the least, trans at the most. Two transgirls, a handful of other girls, and a weird spergy guy of unknown sexuality. Once a straight guy who was actually cute and had skill came (and he was a tripfag on here), but never showed up again. Sad!

Every cosplay club must have at least one transgirl. It’s a rule.

Less about the “expectation of politeness” and more about the overall personality of Lolitas. Not all are the same, but the large majority are pretty insecure and sheepish irl. It boggled my mind at my first meet... we walked in a group to a door and everyone just stood there awkwardly for about 5 seconds before someone stepped forward and opened it. Just completely socially awkward and avoidant. I’ve been to a few meets and the awkwardness/maladjustment of some of the girls really killed it for me and I have stopped going to most of the larger comm meets. I hate to say it but it’s like being in public with adult children, especially in restaurants, lol.

Slightly off topic, but it’s nice to see other dudes who sew in the hobby. Too many of us relegate ourselves to just props/armor. The dumb perception of sewing being gay won’t go away if guys continue to be afraid to do it.

>> No.10140387

I feel the same about my current comm. Makes attending meets a big drag. To be fair they are mostly younger than me, 19-21, and I’m in my mid 20s. My old comm was mostly mid 20s and all super chill... but I was 19-21 when I lived there and probably the most awkward of the group. Maybe it’s a phase for all of us.

>> No.10140562

>>10140363
Yay for inserting politics into a hobby that we usually try to treat as a form of escapism from real life~

>>10140377
Maybe it's kind of admission of guilt? Like, if you're a super butthead online, maybe you're shy in real life because you are worried about people calling you out on it?

>>10140387
Older comms are more chill. I also notice older folks in hobbies tend to respect the idea of people treating this stuff as their method of escapism from real life. Younger people seem to be really into the "personal is political" concept of integrating all aspects of your life, yourself and world events into everything they do.

As a ranty note, I'd like to point out that the practice of "play therapy" has a lot of benifits; basically setting aside time to disconnect from stress by focusing on something that you know is technically pointless but that gives your brain a break from stressing out all the time.

Why didn't you step forward and decisively open the door yourself if you're so much less of an adult child than the rest of your comm? That particular thing seems like a really weird thing to judge people on

>> No.10140583

>>10140569
There was a group of about 9 of us, I wasn't near the door, I was in the back watching the odd exchange of people unable to make a decision. It's common courtesy to open a door when you are the first to approach it. That in particular was something that stood out to me as one facet of the general awkwardness of the larger meets. One issue of many. Don't get me started on ordering food and speaking to servers, lol. Fucking cringey.

And yeah, sure, it is judgy. But it's also retarded to have no bearings whatsoever on basic normie etiquette. Idgaf anymore because I've found a nice group of locals to do things with.

>> No.10140586

I would honestly say that the cosplay community is by far worse. I've been involved with cosplay since the early 00's. I've been wearing lolita for 7 years. If I had to give up one because of the community, I'd probably give up cosplay. I see more elitism, more obnoxious behavior and just outright socially awkward and strange people in cosplay. Of course, these people exist in lolita as well, but I find it less often.

For all the creeps, sissies, KK's, I will take those over what you see in cosplay:
- Weirdo stalkers (have had them)
- Neckbeards at cons asking for creepy photos just because your cleavage is out a bit.
- Everything ever having to do with photogs and photoshoots.
- Cosplay a series you like? Does it have young followers? You'll bet some kid half your age is going to refer to your character as a twink or some shit.

Give me catty bitches online and some social awkwardness. I'll take it.

My biggest issue with lolitas in general is why is everyone a fucking poor? It's not even about affording the ~best burando~ but it's about putting cheap items under $100 on payment plans and taking forever to pay them off, or non-payment, or flaking, or something else along those lines. I don't even have an issue with payment plans. I've done them myself. But when it takes over a month to pay off a cheap item, you might want to prioritize your spending a bit.

You’re right about the anachans. I feel like even back before the whole body acceptance wave cosplayers were more nice about someone if they weren’t 5’2 and 90lbs smol petite. Jfashion girls all have body image related brain damage.

>> No.10140589

>>10140587
It just looks better on thin people. People take it too far, yeah, but there's no denying that Lolita is pretty much designed for slim bodies. It's a fashion and fashion is about the clothing looking good, not just YOU, and the clothing doesn't look good if it's stretched to hell and back by somebody's big ol' fupa. Average people look fine in it. Skinny people look best. Anas look like retarded stick people as always.

funny you say that, because i made some props for a past cosplay and I hated it. sewing is a lot easier for me since it's more of an "engineering" hobby rather than an artsy one (or at least, for me)

also, it really is tiresome that stigma still exists. wish I had more friends to sew in general, which is why I joined the cosuclub. but, for some reason, the hobby attracts a combination of old boomer women (which isn't terrible) and LGBT people that won't shut up about it.

seriously, what is it about sewing that attracts that community? it makes no goddamn sense. I hate using gendered language but I kind of wish there was some renewal about sewing being "manly" or some shit just to drag more guys into it.

Yeah but I think a lot of people here assume that if you are 120 you are chubby, I’m 5’9” and I was anorexic for a couple years when I was around 17 (I’m at a healthy weight now) but 27” waist and 120lbs (underweight for my height) was around the weight when I started to black out more when standing up and I basically looked like a skeleton (pic related, I was never about to die or anything but I was way too skinny)

Guess I’m just saying all that to show that you can be over 120 or have a waist bigger than 24” and not be fat, which seems to be the common consensus here

Yeah, no. unless you’re under 5’0, 120 pounds is still healthy by BMI. Either way you can’t assume someone is fat based on weight alone unless they give you an obvious number. How would you know if an anonymous person is asian and therefore overweight at 120 pounds?

I'm a lonelita precisely because I don't want to have to herd crazies and assorted dumpster fire genderspeshuls. Honestly, the most offensive about them is usually their hygiene that they don't have "enough spoons" or rags on sticks to take care of. I'd suggest being a lone cosplayer too, you can get all the info you need online, cons will be more expensive if you room alone or with just one decent friend, but it's definitely worth it.
