I totally forgot this con was still happening next month.
Anyone actually going this year?

Mishandling of funds, a nasty divorce of the co-con chairs, and overall fuckery from the wife that remained as con chair and trying to keep the con going. There is SO MUCH to the story, but it is going from thousands to one thousand attendees and is projected to be a shit show.

Don't be so sure. So far of this years con they've announced that volunteers are being given mugs instead of being paid, and I saw one of the special guests post that Shuto pretty much ghosted them so they likely aren't coming anymore... I think the shit show is just getting started.

The hotel it's in this year is very small. Shuto used to be in both the hotel and the Lansing Center but the contract ran out supposedly.

>>10125507
She had a huge bill with the convention center after last year. She put her hands up and decided not to pay them. So that avenue is essentially dead. The only reason she's doing a show this year is because she has a running contract with the hotel and she doesn't want to get sued.

Shuto is this weekend.
Who's going?

>> No.10131453

Okay, so what's up with this "adult ticketed event" the Shuto admin is going on about? "Don't go over...for [your] personal safety?" Anyone know, because all I can seem to find is a whisky tasting event on Friday and it honestly sounds like a better time than Shuto already.

My friend and I ghosted for a little while this evening. There's no one checking badges at the door or in the artist alley, and it was easy to sneak in the game room. >The Artist Alley Tables name is Tsukiyama-Sama Art and Photography. On Friday of Shuto after looking around the AA, my friend decided to get a commision keychain from them becauss it was only 5 dollars, which is a VERY good price since many attendees have to balance out exactly what they want to buy.

This is the keychain commission in question.

Well, you can tell a con is dead in the water when /cgl/ doesn't even want to talk about you anymore.

But I am curious if anyone was at closing ceremonies, too. I guess, (from a now nuked thread, surprise surprise), staff said some very racist/homophobic things? Like enough that a few people actually noticed? Ugh, to be a fly on the wall for this shit show must have been entertaining.

Cosplayers who desperately try to spout the PC "teehee numbers aren't important!!!" bullshit while sitting on a sizable following need to shut the fuck up. We all know you're saying it for clout. Meanwhile you have people donating money, giving you attention, giving you better photography work and free shoots, treating you better. They owed over 40,000 to the Lansing center from 2017. She "paid off" most of it through personal and business loans through Lending Tree.
That debt is still there. 2018 happened and that debt just added to the pile. You can't just choose not to pay a debt.

I'm surprised they had the gull to contact prize winners ahead of time to ask if they wanted to save there tickets for 2020.

I hope she gets enough tips through her shitty drag career to reimburse those prize winners.

Due to fail from the moment Stef started forcing staff, family, and friends to choose sides during her divorce.

They were both shitty humans. Both manipulators. Both abusive.

Took advantage of family, friends, and staff. They took advantage of staff's families. Do you think they would have had all those staff members if it weren't for us singing the praises of the con?

They would over promise and under deliver constantly. Then lie and treat people like crap.

They were both disgusting in their expectations. Fuck, they both still owe staff from previous years money. Yet they would demand so fucking much.

They are both grotesquely self important to the point where neither one is willing to actually take blame.

This didn't happen because of the divorce. This happened because they are literal con artists who went in over their heads.

Joe's only saving grace is that he was smart enough to take off his crown and leave. Stephanie clung to her narcissism.

They took something that good people worked hard on and over the years fucked it. Milked it and the people who honestly believed in it for all they are worth.

And the best part? Stephanie still hasn't learned. She is a scoiopath who will blame everyone under the sun but herself (unless blaming herself and dropping some 40 year old tears will get her pledges on her next fugly kickstarter)

What con runner lives off their cons? What con runner brags about paying staff and dosen't? Who blames everyone else?

Fuck them both. Especially, Steph. Hope you make enough pennies being a dumpy drag king to pay back all the people you owe.

In general I find that the less I see the conchair/staff as public figures, the better run a convention is going to be. If you're serious about putting on a good convention, it cannot be a vanity project. The more you use it to get your own name out there and feel good about running things, the more trouble you're going to cause for your brand. I got those same strong vibes from Dokidokon year 1 when all the "conchairs" (they had like 4 or 5?) were running all the main events as basically excuses to promote their own personalities, as well as running livestreams and shitting up the facebook page from their own personal pages. It's vain, and vanity absolutely will kill a project, as we've seen with Shuto. Meanwhile some of my favorite conventions, I have no fucking idea who runs them and if I do, I barely see them, because they're busy actually running the convention and not using it as an excuse to shine a spotlight on themselves.

>> No.10146500

Shuto Con was the first con I ever went to. I was 15 and it seemed like the most exciting thing in the world to me. So it's kinda sad to see it turn out to be such a garbage heap, even though there's not much need for a local convention now that I can travel to other ones when I want.

Ok so

I have friends who are in the dance scene and this is info from them, I'm not gonna out them or myself. But Michael runs all the idol stuff at Dokidokon, right? So he was in charge of Anime Idol last year. There was supposed to be a limit on how many people were allowed to enter because of time constraints (it was in the main event room) but he told more and more people that they could enter, and then right before the competition told all the participants they had to cut their songs down to a certain time limit because there were too many people entered. This fucked with a lot of people's performances because they'd been practicing a longer version than they were allowed to perform. He also asked everyone what their preference for stage lighting was and then didn't actually pass that info on to the stage crew so they had to figure it out literal minutes before the event. He also got a judge who's been a notorious shit stirrer and bully in the community and had threatened violence against some of the participants in the past, so, that was cool.

He told groups they could definitely come perform and hold events at Dokidokon, and promised them mics, sound setups, staff, etc. and then didn't tell the staff, so people were showing up ready to perform and with no equipment, and staff having no idea who they were.

I don't think he's creepy in the way that he harasses women or anything, but the way he handles his cosplays is very cringe and borderline creepy. He loves cosplaying very young girls and calling himself a "trap", which, I'm not here to preach to anyone about that word, but has made actual trans cosplayers pretty uncomfortable. He thinks everything he does is totally fine because the genki power of idols will somehow make everyone friends and make everything work out. Meanwhile he's apparently never communicating things to his staff and there was some visible frustration and drama between him and his staff, from what I heard.

Sucks this con shut down the attendees were actually really spendy in the artist alley. I made a killing here every year considering the size of the con itself. If only Stef hadn't done some dumb shit. I have never in my life heard of cons having such notorious staff like this. The best cons you never even know how to find the name of the owner. You only blind yourself when you point the spotlight into your own face.
