Male here. I've moved cities for university and kinda fucked up the chance to irl make friends, and cons aren't really doable for me atm. Partially because of this I really enjoy reading the con threads and seeing the effort and excitement people put into prep and the fun/ experiences they have while there.

I really like how lolita / J fashion / a lot of cosplay looks, but I can't pull it off with my height and frame sadly. Someone I know is really androgynous and I'm pretty jealous of them; I'm clearly male from build. I'd love to wear the clothes they can :/
Also I'm interested in learning knitting to make myself a big warm scarf for winter times, so seeing winter based outfits gives me notes for designs.

I have input on this. I'm a guy and only just recently started coming on this board as a lurker. I used to browse /pol/ a lot back in 2012, but I grew out of it, especially since a lot of stuff on there was stuff I already didn't agree with, and you can only take so many "this but unironically" posts before you realize that people actually hold sincere and dangerous views there and not everyone is just kidding.

I got /fit/ and branched out more to /mu/, /ic/, /i/, /co/, and /vg/. I ended up coming here out of curiosity because I wanted to get into cosplay a few years back, and ended up finding this strange, almost anomalous board with memes and shit I was completely unaware of and didn't understand. I quickly realized it was because this board has more women than men, and it makes it really unique.

I wouldn't divide the board like that. It's part of the reason why /v/ and /pol/ don't have separate female boards even though they are heavily male dominated. Part are the reason why I hate Reddit is that the most minor of drama on subreddits can make the community balkanize by making people make other subreddits and getting people from those other subreddits to move to their new subreddit. It's a vicious cycle but eventually just leads to communities that are too small to sustain and they don't have enough varying ideas to make interesting discussion.

This place is almost like a pallet cleanser to me. When I need a break from other boards I come here to just look at cosplay and enjoy threads. Yeah, a part of me wants a Lolita gf, but at the end of the day, this place is great, and that's not the only reason why I come. Having an opportunity to see what women talk about to other women in anonymously about a feminine "geek" hobby has given me valuable insight into how to be more understanding of women, how to better understand their struggles and insecurities, and how to better myself through what I've learned here. Also con threads are fucking hilarious.

I've browsed 4chan for ~9 years. I only lurked and posted on /g/ and /a/. I didn't even visit other boards at all. If I ever went them, it was because someone linked them in a thread.

It was probably due to a missclick that I've found /cgl/ in early 2017. My first impression wasn't good desu. I've found the bad cosplay/cringe threads and it just didn't feel good. I kept lurking though.

Outside of that, I don't use any social network. No FB/Twitter/Instagram or anything.

My first cosplay was back in 2010. It was a pretty simple Ace Attorney costume with no wig. Some people recognized me, which I'm glad because AA wasn't ever big here. Then I took a break from cosplaying, and only got back to it in 2015.

Cons are amazing. It's so fun to find someone cosplaying a character you like and ask for a pic together. From the cosplayer point of view, seeing someone jumping out of excitement because they recognized your character is such a heartwarming feeling.

Cosplay made me meet some nice people. People who like the same stuff as me, who talk the same way I do (I still want to get closer to them - it's unfortunate that this became so dependent on social media nowadays). It made me get /fit/ to cosplay stronger characters (I don't browse the 4chan board tho). It made me aware of lolita (it looks great and you like it, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise, gulls). It made everything have so much fun!

I've exchanged emails with some gulls and there's tons of interesting people here. They all were very interesting persons which I kinda hope to meet IRL someday. It's unfortunate you see amazing people struggling with depression in the feels thread. I try my best to reach them and hopefully make their day a bit better. A positive message CAN make a difference.
