Magfest hasn’t said anything so I’m pretty sure it was a katsucon decision not a gaylord decision. I know they said “in cooperation with the gaylord” but I’m pretty sure they still had to discuss it with the hotel. Also magfest has much more worth doing that requires a badge so ghosting probably isn’t as big of an issue to them

Big excite for magfest, 4th year now. Wasn't originally intending to go, but a friend popped up and had a gaylord room available and I'm cleared for the time off from work. Eastward bound!

First year being in charge of a room at the Gaylord. So happy got one, last year we roomed across the river and it was so annoying.

What are everyone's cosplans? I always cosplay at Mag. Super easy to meet people.

Depends, last year there was one room full of party wizards that I wandered into and had a nice time, you just need to read the situation. Your best bet for finding a hotel room party is walking up and talking/befriending people, that’s how I usually do it.

Security is usually fine but I only went for one year. If people started talking about noise complaints I usually leave. Hotel parties aren’t the only kind tho, Magfest also has a rave. With it being 24/7 there’s usually some event or group having a fun time.

always book a flexible room after magfest around the first weekend for the next year at a few hotels so you can pick and choose with the pricing and logistics. I didn't do it this year so I have to drive from across the bridge, price isn't bad but usually I get a place across the street for drunk late night stumble backs into the free breakfast.

I think people have trouble with mag because they're too used to normal cons. The goal is to stay drunk the whole time, listen to a ton of music, find parties, maybe do some coke and break into places, and play a bunch of video games. I did. The selection was pretty disappointing. I went in hoping to find really cool and wacky obscure shit that I would never get a chance to play anywhere else, not Halo, Pac-Man, Smash Bros., and SHMUPs on emulators. I got to play some Outrun and Crazy Taxi at least. Also for some reason they had all the Jap rhythm games you'd expect, but no Taiko. The indie gameroom was the only saving grace. Lots of cool shit there.

There are other companies that operate much in the same way that Tokyo Attack does. There are also individuals who own games. It's not completely absurd to think of someone owning their own IIDX. I remember seeing a cab go for as cheap as $1000 years ago. I think $3000 is pretty much the low end for one these days.

These businesses also tend to have started as people who owned a few games themselves and just steadily bought more and more for the business.

Accurate enough. Arcadency controls Colorado, AZHP controls AZ, there is Arcade Impact as well. Speaking for Arcadency, they have at least 22 of the popular games to bring, including Taiko, ID8, Gunslinger, Popn, Jubeat, SDVX, etc. Magfest wont take us because it's too far away, not because SPX has exclusive control over Mag.
