Lolitas with short dresses (who aren't ita)

Dresses, skirts, anything that isn't ita, but is lolita, and ends a good distance above the knee.

I see a lot of girls complaining about dresses being too short if the dress is above the knee, but often times it does look good.

Peeking bloomers coords are accepted as long as you can definitely tell the dress ends above the knee, but not required. I'm just looking for inspiration as I am a taller girl and most of my AP is mid-thigh on me. I see other girls rocking the look, especially in some old school pictures.

What do you think of shorter skirts/dresses? Is it always ita, or are there exceptions? Underskirts don't really look all too great with a lot of dresses, so what can be done to make shorter skirts/dresses work?

It's basically because most people you see nowadays that tries to pull off the short skirts look are people that either:
a) aren't doing it tastefully, as it still has to look elegant and lolita, it's not too uncommon that they add "slutty" element like a garter,
or b) are wearing a dress/skirt that is obviously too small in size and thus look bad all around because of the horrible fit, some cases it barely even covering their ass

Another option is wearing fishnets or lace tights under knee socks or otks. I always hear girls bitching about fishnets not being lolita, but there are a lot of old school photos with them and I think they work really well, especially with gothic.

I guess the whole idea that lolita dresses need to be at the knee came from all the lolita rules people made back in the day to help newbies. Kinda like black/white = ita. Before then, there were tons of cute shorter dress coords that were super cute. I still think it's really cute, and I think overall the idea of having to add an underskirt it dumb. Underskirts don't always go with every dress, plus they add another layer and make the outfit feel more OTT.

I absolutely love her coords, although I do find that sometimes because of the combo of her height / oldschool pieces being shorter, she ends up looking pretty unbalanced in terms of volume. Average height in Japan and the rest of East Asia is around 5'2'' for women (157cm). I'm Asian and me, all the women in my family, and all my Asian friends are no taller than 5'3'' for sure. My white American friends are probably around 5'4'' on average, I would definitely consider 5'6'' to be actively tall. Even more so for lolita, since it makes sense to go by Japanese standards in this context.

Thick tights aren't that visibly. My hips/ass are 4 sizes bigger than most of my body and that slowly becomes smaller till my ankles who are tiny again. Causing my tights to still be big with quite some fat. Dress still hides most of it even when this short. It's more important to make sure the back won't rise up too much because of my ass. Considering a bigger difference is near impossible without surgery, I assume you wonder about fat legs, not just bigger tights. In which case, yes, you probably look bad with a short skirt because no one wants to see extra fatness.

sock dreams has some nice socks called extraordinary thigh highs that are otk on me and really nice. I'd suggest getting some nice lace and ribbons and using those as a base pair. my AP socks technically go about my knee, but really after moving around and stuff they do settle right below my knee. sock clue might help, and usually I wear fishnets under mine, which help as well.

Also, the baby socks in that photo are definitely UTKs. my baby socks are jsut as long as my AP, but the AP are stretchier. Meta are longer but not bu much.
